Lycanroc's Den had become one of the councilwoman's more common pit stops as of late, becoming a routine part of her visits to Lilycove. It wasn't fashionable, or ritzy, or anything that'll attract the high caliber of guests most would expect from one of Penelope's favorites, but it captured something far more important: it felt like home.

It was dim, with little color to be found. Other than the bright red cushions and wide variety of bottles, most of the place was stained in blots of black and brown. Small candles lit the bar, providing just enough lighting to read through squinted eyes, but far too little to recognize anyone passing by.

"Another," she nodded to the bar tender, her cheek glued onto her balled up fist. The bar tender didn't even flinch at the request. He'd known, from the moment Penelope stepped in, what she'd be asking for, and just how many she'd take before eventually wobbling herself home. When the glass of dark liquor found itself back to her fingers, she didn't hesitate throwing the glass back and letting burn transport her.

He’s been here before in another life. A younger man, content to be a street rat striding the thin red line between order and chaos, had many a clandestine meeting in the Lycanroc’s Den. An older man sees it with nostalgic eyes, for it reminds him of somewhere far away, a place he has sworn to put away like a childhood toy. Like so many things from a man’s past, what this place represents is impossible to let go.[break][break]
It seems almost misty, here in the bar. There should be no mist, not in this city. Not at this time of year. It adds a certain ambience that many of the patrons seem to appreciate. Though the bartender showed some concern when he first noticed the mist, he stopped caring once he realized it wasn’t from a gas leak or anything else that would end in the place’s destruction.[break][break]
A phantom appears from nowhere, as phantoms so often do. He sits beside the redhead and says one word.[break][break]
“Mead.”[break][break]
His smile is the smile of a barbarian, a berserker fresh returned from across the sea with a mighty thirst. Golden liquor is poured for him and he drinks it with the same voraciousness he once did when returning to Motostoke from a journey across the wastelands. He turns and sees the woman sitting next to him. In this life, they’re poised to be enemies. It did not have to be so, but the woman she has decided to become and the man he wants to be are fundamentally incompatible, down to the atoms.[break][break]
Even still, he misses her. He misses the woman who presided over the happiest days of his life.[break][break]
“Penny.” He says with far more warmth he’d ever afford her in an AQUA meeting. “Didn’t know this was your scene.”
