Katharina flinches backwards for half a step as she sees the Rocket in front of her, but ... there's no immediate attack. Yet. It's imminent with her words, and she swallows as she pushes her chin upwards and takes a step forward - away from the first aid tent, a place that she hopes she can keep out of the fire just for the moment ... It's a very ambitious thing to distract this Rocket for long enough for others maybe to get the others to safety.

"Much appreciated," she replies with an actual piece of genuine respect that also is soured by feigned heroism. She is no champion of battle, but her movements are decisive as she indeed calls for her first pokémon - a recent addition that hopefully would give her some time to think before it's all too late. The dive ball flies with no hesitation, just like how Katharina threw it - maybe with a bit too much force, actually, to hide her trembling arm.

"Numbahs, go for it!" The Dewott coming out of the ball is shining, shimmering with faint illumina markings that seem to spell ancient poems speaking of honour. But unlike the luminescent markings, the pokémon itself wears a grim expression, holding a shell with determination as she waits for her opponent to show up - and to strike it with Sucker Punch (or shell blade, rather).

Numbahs runs as soon as she sees the Froslass appear on the field, but it's not quick enough until her vision is filled with snow, and her blade strikes the very same. Snowflakes that part cleanly, but essentially, she's struck air. The Froslass is nowhere to be seen.

Katharina and Numbahs immediately feel the edge in the battle here, a lost cause that they can only hope to claw their way out of somehow. There's anger again, flaring and fighting with anxiety that seems to freeze everything inside her. But she has to see somehow. "You can't let the people just out there on their own," Katharina returns, having to focus to keep her face pointing towards where she thinks the other's voice is coming from. She can only hope that someone else will see that the patients won't freeze to death. She also feels herself shiver at the sudden temperature drop - even in September, Hoenn's fairly warm, so she's been careless ...

"Never seen a firstaid tent before?" Katharina scoffs then, trying to sound braver than she feels as she turns to a voice as biting as the cold. A stupid idea, too, to fuel the flame, but she can't help it as she desperately tries to think if there's a way out.

Numbahs has taken matters into her own hands now, as Katharina's too much in her own head at the moment. With the snow making it near impossible to see, she still refuses to back down. She tries to focus up, before quickly turning around herself with her Aqua Tail to attempt to strike the Froslass, or have the water freeze in crystalline spines.

Katharina's expression is visibly ruffled, a vibe that might be transmitted even through a thick layer of falling snow in-between them. "What's it to you?" she scoffs, careful not to give up more information than necessary - not that she knows how an utter lack of combatants right now would be helpful at all. They're here, around, somewhere. Maybe someone notices the sudden snowfall in autumn and would come around, but for now, she's here ... alone on the battlefield while her colleagues hopefully make no mistake.

Her hands hover over her pokéballs again, following the clear light of Numbahs. While the Dewott is a beacon to anyone else, she lacks that ability for herself ... her shine only reflecting against the frozen flakes. Should she recall her for now- as this battle is hard for her? But the pokéballs that she comes to rest on ... one actually pristine, almost unused for Froschl, who's by her side most of the time. One that is warm even now, one that seems to shake restlessly even now. And then one dive ball with shell markings that Numbahs made herself, and then two more ... both of them scratched by deep claw marks, power that's almost unwieldy.

"... we were told it's safe." Words that leave her lips before she could take them back.

And movement from Numbahs - used to water, but not ice. Katharina can see her stance. The Dewott has decided to call judgement, decide on a plan as she almost seems to wait in place. A Shadow Ball then comes her way, but instead of dodging, she almost runs towards it. She can't figure out where her opponent is - so she has to face it straight on. A Ceaseless Edge that aims to cut through the ball of dark energy, cut towards the origin point - even as she whimpers as she's hit by the attack, a sound that is drowned out by the snow.

The Rocket's words ring true, but a tired mind had liked to still believe. Katharina has never fought in war - and truly, she wished she wasn't here. "And why's it like this?" she spits in trembling defiance. She's here now, with Numbahs doing her goddamn best to hold her own as her trainer flails. Horror is visible on Katharina's face as the Ceaseless Edge not only finds its target and strikes true, but also seems to cut through the veil of hesitation that has cloaked Katharina like the freezing snow.

"Numbahs!" she calls out as the Froslass is switched for a Talonflame. The Dewott puts on a brave face, lifting her chin and looking at the Talonflame challengingly - but only momentarily, as it's already making a beeline for an attack, one that Dewott doesn't try to dodge. Can't, as her injuries slowly rise to her head. Still, she comes face to face- an Aqua Tail prepared to strike, but.

Water splashes uselessly as Numbahs' steady glow dims almost entirely.

It could've splashed Katharina, as she seems to shake herself with newfound realisation, determination. Five out of six remain. "Yeah, they tend to be the best of me," she says, trying to hide the trembling in her voice as she recalls Numbahs and takes out another pokéball. A Teddiursa Froggiursa appears, fully coated in honey, aware of the battle.

"Play Rough!" she calls, knowing that they'd have to be as fast as possible before Froschl would go into hibernation because of the temperatures here ... (or the honey coating freezes as the snowfall persists for now). She is aware of the stickiness of her pokémon, and hopes perhaps that some of it would rub off on the Talonflame, inhibiting its flight or simply glueing Froschl to it if it makes an attack that requires contact.

Froschl is hurt badly by the hit-on attack, even as they also need the Talonflame to be in reach for their attack, as the Froggiursa is almost exclusively a melee attacker. Still, the Rocket surprises Katharina by using Roost as a next attack - flying out of reach as the snow persists on its last legs. There's another moment of respect, frankly, on Katharina's end as she looks at the recovering Talonflame. She does prefer seeing pokémon getting better - not worse. However ... she also would need to figure out a way to knock it out.

"Ah, shit-" she swears, only to notice that. Yeah. She loves Froschl dearly as he becomes more and more drowsy with the temperature, and actually ... "Go Rest- gods, this is gonna look so stupid," she adds under her whispered breath. She just hopes that he won't actually have his mucus harden enough for a solid shell to form, but that should still be worth it ...

And without further ado, the bear frog goes into hibernating.

He does visibly recover like the Talonflame and frankly, he probably wouldn't have been able to tank another attack either ... but he also seems fast asleep now. Just one more moment as both pokémon seem to recover ... and Katharina puts her hands over her ears. It's just moments before Froschl starts Snoreing powerfully.

make a sacrifice: her dignity

Katharina believes to have caught a glimpse of something with the Talonflame and its trainer - a resolve that makes her shiver. And a horrific realisation, too, seeing Froschl simply being there, sleeping. "I'm sorry, oh my god," she breathes out. Her hand moves to recall, but it's already too late - the sweet scent of honey burning fills the air as the Froggiursa disappears, singed, from the battlefield.

And with that flame, the snow comes to a stop. Katharina still shivers, however, as she grits her teeth. As the Rocket has shown, this is not a time to hesitate ... and she isn't sure how this will go. Still, her hand moves quietly to the next pokéball - and she takes a deep breath. She's been fascinated with a pokémon's ability to adapt, but she still has to figure out if these kind of pokémon even adapted, or simply existed. And this one, maybe it was built ...

There's many questions about their kind and about this specimen in particular that she still hasn't found answers to, even as she's ended up at their place of origin.

But resolve forms on a shaky foundation as she calls for Iron Thorns in this situation that grows more dire and dire - even if she is not a trainer yet that actually can utilise its full potential, as it enters with a roar. "Electric Terrain," she tells it, and it follows with robotic movements. The melting snow has riddled their surroundings with puddles that start crackling with electricity, as does the air - Katharina reasons that her hair standing on end is because of that.
