Dire straights called for drastic measures... The situation was only getting worse as Petalburg began to swell in power from the rocket forces that overtook it, and if left unchecked, the influence could spread.[break]
Unsure and uncertain as ever where her place was meant to be in all of this, Yuina at minimum knew that she would be a fool to refuse orders in a time like this, not when she was so precariously placed and poised at the razor's edge of what little standing she had in this life. Refuse orders and make herself look worse? Or debase herself to fight a fight that still wasn't hers...?[break][break]
She'd told worse lies to herself. And as her own worst enemy she continued to pretend that she was worth any of the good she tried to do.[break][break]
All she could do was wait for her fate to be decided by those above her, by those who believed they knew better for her than herself, and maybe they would be right... Maybe all she was ever meant to do was play a puppet to those around her, to be told who she was and who she could be, or couldn't be... And so it was out on the frontlines for now with little else to consider for herself.[break][break]
Sent out from Rustboro City and into the wilds beyond, Yuina was meant to check on perimeters and see if any boundaries had yet been breached by forces trying to head north. She kept to the trees, quiet, eyeing a map every so often as she moved forward. Within her own shadow, hidden and concealed, Daikenki laid in wait within Shadow Sneak to keep close but unassumed.

Tactically, being out in the open is a disaster in every situation. But Hoenn is not Galar, and its war is not any that Galar has experienced. The rules are different. She's still wrapping her head around it all, but Ameena knows for sure that they need to appear strong at all costs. This means that Rocket patrols tend to be loud, visible, and mechanically careless in how they move through the perimeters. If they seem untouchable, many will be discouraged from trying it. [break][break]

She wants to expect brilliance from the League, but she suspects the only trouble they'll have is from well-intentioned youth. This keeps her eyes on the trees, and it's not long before Inteleon's service as a sniper yields a result: someone is walking along the trees. Inteleon chirps to draw her attention to the blob in the distance. "There we go - a little wishiwashi away from its school." Easy pickings. [break][break]

"Knock 'em down." Inteleon generates a quick snipe shot at the figure ( ), punctuated by Ameena's brief laughter. "No matter what happens, you can always trust Leaguers to be foolishly optimistic." And they deserved to be punished for it. She had lost a lot in the immediate build-up to Sootopolis, confirmed only in the fallout immediately after; the League would pay for it dearly.

a growl and a nearby rustle of leaves stole her attention. ”shade, leave it.” hardly an effective command. smelling fear, her shadow houndoom descended upon a baby pidove who’d fallen from its nest.[break][break]

lulu went over and crouched with a sigh, rubies in her sygna suit winking under dappled sunlight. she took her dog by the snout, thumb wiping away blood as she looked daringly into its eyes. ”i should know better, shouldn’t i shadow?”[break][break]

and at that level, then, she noticed the plants, leaves shiny with what mess remained. ”begonias.” she’d not counted herself superstitious for most of her life, but being touched by mythos had changed some things.[break][break]

her dog growled and she released it, standing quickly to evade the snap of its teeth. at the same moment, ameena’s voice crackled in her ear, followed by fire.[break][break]

looking out from the cover she’d taken some meters closer to the mark, lulu identified their target: the megalopolan child’s savior.[break][break]

”that’s yuina higashi,” she replied over comms.[break][break]

she glanced down at the dark leaves again, and though her old patron was not there, a sense of greater purpose engulfed her like the black of night.[break][break]

”go, shade. hunt.”[break][break]

Being the top champion as war broke out was something that had begun to take it's toll on melody, she had to be everywhere, ensure the safety of those around her as much she could. Those such as Yuina. Melody was scouting the area when she had heard that Yuina was sent over here to ensure the safety of the perimeter. She had grown to become very found of the young woman, there was a desire for knowledge in her that burned brighter than most others she had encountered. [break][break]

She wanted to kindle that flame, ensure that it remained bright and burning for a long time to come. She had adjusted her Sapphire colored hair tie, sporting her iconic ponytail when she happened upon the woman. "Yuina! there you are!" she called over while waving to the girl, acting as if she was not on the frontlines of a war. [break][break]

Suddenly, a sparkle of light erupted in the distance that caught her attention and a shadow pokemon bee-lining straight for the woman "No!" she screamed but she recognized that attack by instinct, she was a water type expert after all. She immediately sends out her Primarina, her closest partner pokemon "Ariel, misty terrain!" she calls out as the primarina obeys and a sudden explosion of pink gas filled the air trying to obscure the opposition's view of them both. [break][break]

She pulls out her baton immediately and flicks it, conjuring several beams of musical bars, a haphazard attack since Melody wasn't exactly sure where the enemy was. "Get back!" she calls out to her ally.

Keep her head down... that was what told her to do... Until her fate was decided, until the league told her how she was going to lead her life. All she ever wanted to do, all she ever tried to do was keep her head down, to stay out of the way, remain inconsequential as the shadow she was always meant to be... But even as she was a shadow, a husk of a person, Yuina still managed to draw attention to herself in all of the worst ways.[break][break]
She heard Melody's voice just before things broke out into the tension of battle. Melody came to her, like she had been looking for her... where Yuina had been avidly avoiding her, like so many others. And yet, she couldn't make any motions to leave as attacks were thrown and battle began.[break][break]
"Offense, blade Daikenki," Yuina spoke first in the new found Celestica she had been learning, and from her shadows the Samurott lunged from the darkness. The energy of her sygna suit came to life as the two stood together, and she drew one seamitar from the water type's sheath. They were linked by the energy of the suit, but bonded by more than the sync stone could ever emulate, lost to time, forged in a world so far from this place, knowing they could never return. The mist from the Primarina permeated the area, but the attacks were still upon them, and Yuina drew up her seamitar and met the Snipe Shot in a parried blow of Razor Shell from her sygna suit.[break][break]
Shrouded by mist, avoiding a barrage of musical notes that fired through the air, Yuina kept closer to Daikenki than she did Melody.[break]
"What are you doing here Melody," Yuina returned, she hadn't asked for back up, and made it a point to keep off of any larger group assignments for a reason. Her own safety was a non issue at this point, she wasn't going to pretend that she was safe anywhere at any time. But anyone else that she cared about could be safe, away from her...

Yuina Higashi, Ameena committed to memory from Lulu's callout. That was the name of the twerp that had been a thorn in her side. But without Gardevoir, much of the animosity was lessened; she didn't feel the urge to strangle the girl so much as smack her, though she would use any means necessary to secure her for their experiments. Celebi could change everything as far as the dream realm was concerned, and that was her highest priority. [break][break]

The girl had to be kept alive; the Champion... well, Ameena wasn't so bold as to think she could kill one of the League's strongest, but cutting the song bird's throat would be a win for Rocket. [break][break]

Mist filled the environment, though Ameena saw a shot of the Sygna suit (damn these Sygna users... she had not yet compiled the final material for her own) and the successful parry of her Inteleon's attack. She'd have to work smart to overpower Yuina. The two of them were brilliant enough to alter the environment and avoid half-measures, bringing out Avatar powers and a Sygna suit right off the bat. "Keep them back," she ordered, and Inteleon used a wide hydro pump to prevent either Melody or Yuina from closing distance - though the attack was impossible to direct accurately in the atmosphere. [break][break]

Into her comms, she asked Lulu, "Do you have any means to disrupt the mist?" The question turned into a hiss as a musical note struck her rib, the same spot she'd broken it against one of those glowing yellow beasts. Fuck, she really didn't want to fight an Avatar and a Sygna user at the same time. How best to distract them and make a move to abduct Yuina...

impressive and unexpected. despite the sygna suit twinkling under her clothes, it seemed the tables had turned.[break][break]

she readied a tera orb, squinting through the obscuring mist as her dog collided with bars of music. such a strange power.[break][break]

did she have a way to disrupt the mist? ”no – and we won’t win this, but it’s worth sticking around and seeing what they’ll do. maybe celebi will make an appearance.”[break][break]

she held up her tera orb, and it glowed through the shadows, exposing her position. the shadow houndoom terastallized into the psychic-type, sparkling, before gnashing psychic fangs at the primarina.[break]

Yuina doesn't seem rather happy to see Melody, so she instead puts on a performance for the at least two opponents they currently faced. Melody grins "To meme on rocket of course!" before whispering to . [break][break]

"Here to protect someone I consider a friend, let's get rid of them quick and get back to safety. Wanna be my back up? We already make for a beautiful duet." she asks her as Melody doesn't even wait for Yuina to agree to it. [break][break]

Psychic fangs charge towards Primarina who falls victim to the attack, damaged further by the terastalization the creature undergoes. A phenomena that she was not intimately familiar with but that she has used before. "NO! primarina! Yuina, can you try to keep the houndoom off of me? I'll show out guests their way out of the theater." she says as the champion steps forward in front of the mist and recalls her primarina into it's ball to protect it from further harm. [break][break]

She speaks out to her opponents in the darkness. "I hope you know, hiding will do you no good against Meloetta." she calls out as Melody sends out the primadonna herself. Melody then raises her teraorb upwards and blows a kiss in the attack's directions as she sends out MELOETTA and STELLAR TYPE TERASTALIZES IT. [break][break]

Meloetta shines with all the colors of the rainbow and unleashes a RELIC SONG in the area around them, the song seeking out those who would seek to cause disharmony and silence them.

Each bearing one blade, two halves of the same whole, a perfect matching pair, Yuina and Daikenki stood together within the shrouding mist. Now that they were spotted and being attacked, there was no telling how many they were to face, or what they could expect. There were at least two perhaps, unless it was one trainer commanding multiple Pokemon. The water attacks were coming from one direction, and there was a flash of Terastal energy in another...[break][break]
But regardless of how many adversaries they were faced with, the two worked in sync with each other. Yuina's energy was melding with Daikenki's, his own resolve and intent to defend now that they had been attacked first. He was fierce, the Samurott hissed on open maw just as Yuina's anger surged at Melody's insistence of being close to her.[break][break]
"You can't protect me Melody, and I'm not asking you to, or anyone," Yuina returned, bitter still and seething in her shadows being brought to the light. She wasn't talking about the situation at hand. But her anger and her fury was directed at no one but herself, her own worst enemy, she who caused all of this and was the only one to blame. When that woman might come for her, it would be her doing, and it would be her fault if anyone got in the way...[break][break]
And yet, Melody only surged forward to take charge in the battle as her Primarina was struck by a glittering Houndoom that rushed out through the mist, with Meloetta that she now knew to be her charge. Yuina seethed, gripping her seamitar that much tighter, but she wouldn't contest this fight, not now. She would distance herself from Melody again soon enough...[break]
"Daikenki, the hound," Yuina spoke, sending the Samurott after the Houndoom as she heard the sound of water rushing towards her again. Yuina drew back the seamitar she held and instead through the surging energy of the sygna suit tried to counter the rushing water of Hydro Pump with the swirling torrent of Whirlpool. And while the water did divert only just, it wasn't enough to save her entirely as the remainder of the torrent rushed through the whirlpool and struck, blowing her back a ways.[break][break]
Daikenki rushed along the ground to meet the Houndoom as it lunged and lashed through the up and coming battle field. The Samurott barked on open maw as he found the Houndoom, garnering its attention. He raised his blade and lunged forward, the dark energy of Ceaseless Edge laced along the seamitar and poised to meet the Houndoom in the fight.

Lulu confirms she has no way to disrupt the mist, but it seems to work in their favor, too. Ameena moves through the mist to follow the shot her Inteleon had made at Yuina, aware the girl must be in this direction somewhere. [break][break]

The brilliance of the stellar tera Meloetta is visible enough through the mist, a gleaming ball of light that warns Ameena that something powerful is coming. Inteleon stops Ameena in her tracks to cover her ears, ever the loyal pokemon, though the powerful stellar song abrades Inteleon until she faints, falling to the ground into a limp pile. Ameena returns Inteleon to her shiny pokeball and releases Lucario instead. "Kill the songbird," she orders, letting Lucario take the reigns in terms of methodology.[break][break]

Lucario terastallizes dragon and charges through the mist to the origin of the song, leaping up and expelling a dragon pulse at the singing pokemon. [break][break]

Having been set on the right path to Yuina from Inteleon's keen hydro pump, she follows the trail of water to see the Sygna suited woman. "Well." Lulu had said they wouldn't win, but getting a Celebi appearance would be beneficial for their purposes. She needs to provoke it from the woman, and acting just as mindlessly vicious as she had been with Gardevoir's unruly influence would do the trick. She pulls her gun from her waist as she stalks closer to Yuina. "I think you have been a thorn in my side long enough." She laughs unkindly. "Did you really believe you could win? You fight for the losing team."[break][break]

She levels the gun at the Ranger and pulls the trigger.

[attr="class","body"]shade sank psychic fangs in the primarina but was hardly satisfied with only a taste. the shadow houndoom snapped and snarled as its opponent disappeared into a pokeball. instead, it attempted to pivot towards the meloetta – only to be met by a hisuian samurott placing itself ahead of the target.[break][break]

a permeating relic song slowed the processes of the mind, but didn’t lull the scientist to sleep. she called out, ”stay awake, shade!” in a daze, however, it wasn’t quick enough to avoid the samurott’s ceaseless edge.[break][break]

gritting teeth and watching her dog stagger in the mist, she activated her sygna suit. ”was that a gun?” she asked ameena over comms, pain evident in her voice, carving further into her pride. ”be careful.”[break][break]

the wounded shadow houndoom glowed a spiteful violet energy, baring teeth and sealing the hisuian samurott’s fate with a destiny bond.break][break]

Melody grins at first, glad that her strategy worked and that she managed to attack both of her opponents. However it seemed one of them was determined to charge into the mist head first to try and confront them at close range.[break][break]

A bright dark purple light rushes towards them, did another pokemon terastalize? Her question would be immediately answered as a DRAGON PULSE rushes out towards Meloetta, melody tries to create a musical barrier to shield the attack but it shatters. [break][break]

Meloetta is slammed by the attack and sent careening back into the concrete. Melody loses sight of her and thus with a flick of her hand, uses her psychic abilities dissipate the mist to give her a clearer view of her opponent. The Lucario was insistent on getting in melody's way and not allowing her to help Yuina. "Rushing the stage? Seems a bit cheeky." she mutters under her breath in annoyance. [break][break]

She sees the houndoom trying to tie it's destiny and and Samurott's together, that damned string of fate. This was growing tougher by the moment and Melody felt out of place. [break][break]

Meloetta pulls herself off of the nearby tree she was slammed into and rushes forward. The music Pokémon adjusted her microphone piece before the microphone piece itself unleashes a STELLAR TERA BLAST at the Lucario. Melody's hair begins to float weightlessly as she pulls out a conductor's baton and MUSIC began to play in the area and the ground shook. She was pulling out all the stops. [break][break]

Suddenly, a gun is pulled and Melody realizes she can't do anything to help it as she's focused on using her psychic abilities to TRY and pull LUCARIO and HOUNDOOM together and slam them into one another. However as Melody's emotions spike, she loses control of herself for a moment. Melody unintentionally unleashes one of her abilities onto Yuina, in the midst of battle she orders her to do the following. "YUINA! PROTECT YOURSELF!" she calls out as suddenly Yuina would feel a rush of unnatural strength, her reaction timing feeling faster as melody buffs her.

His blade struck true, Daikenki drew back his seamitar again as he had made contact with the canine. The dog was downed, the Samurott eyed it and knew it could be felled... Until a spiteful, sinister energy emanated from its ire. Daikenki hissed, faltering, staggering back from the canine in apprehension now, he started to feel the Houndoom's pain, its fate would be his own... The Samurott barked, furious, cursing the Houndoom for its sinister trick, but if the Samurott waited just long enough, would the splinters from his blade be enough? Sometimes in battle, the best move was to do nothing, to wait and be patient... Daikenki squared his blade and waited for the Houndoom to make its next move.[break][break]
Blown back by Hydro Pump, Yuina coughed as she hit her back to a tree, landing on the ground on all fours. She heaved a breath as her seamitar lay on the ground beside her, dripping wet and gritting her teeth at the blunt hit she'd taken. Yuina moved briefly to sit back on her knees, looking to reach for her seamitar, but movement coming towards her in the corner of her eye caught her attention, and she bristled at finding that woman with the pink hair moving towards her.[break][break]
"Of course its you," Yuina seethed, another cough of water, but just as her hand reached and gripped the handle of her seamitar, Yuina's eyes fixed on the gun that the woman now held... She would bring a gun to a sword fight, something so heinous wasn't beneath her.[break][break]
"Everyone is on the loosing team the longer you choose to fight, none of you understand that," Yuina said first, but it seemed that restraint was not in the cards for the woman that day.[break][break]
The click of the trigger of the gun matched the clicking, ticking, of seconds passing that Yuina could always feel. Every second counted, and Yuina knew that well enough to know that she could make them count as much as she willed it.[break][break]
One second, she heard Melody's voice, and she felt something come over her... A will that wasn't her own....[break]
Two seconds, the gun clicked, and the bullet would have been Yuina's end[break]
Three seconds, and time blinked in the moment that the bullet would have struck.[break][break]
Time skipped those couple of seconds backwards to the point that the bullet was still in the barrel, and then as time caught up again she knew what she needed to do. Her hand already gripped to the hilt of her seamitar, Yuina vanished within Shadow Sneak, sinking into the darkness of her own shadow beneath her. The gun clicked, the bullet let lose, but she wasn't there in the seconds to follow, in the seconds that she bid to her will.[break][break]
Instead, Yuina emerged from shadow, standing now to square against the woman, and she held the seamitar fast in her grip, poised and pointed. Ready.[break]
Melody's will was inflicted upon her, a strength she could feel that wasn't her own. She knew what Melody was capable of, she'd told her herself... And she said she didn't like the idea herself... So why...?[break]
'Don't tell me what to do, don't treat me like a puppet,' she shuttered, her shadows seething at the very notion that she was still just a plaything for everyone around her, for everyone who thought they knew better for her.[break][break]
"Try it again and see if time will favor you," Yuina leered, eyes fixed on the woman who had so earnestly sought her out. Was she pleased now?

Lucario's pulled into Houndoom's orbit by Melody, but he uses substitute to create a weak iteration of his body to be dragged into the canine - if they collide, it at least won't be as damaging as Lucario's real body striking the Houndoom. Lucario lands on the ground from his substitute, but he's weakened after subbing out. Still, the loyal pokemon charges at Melody directly, angling to punch her throat and hinder the songbird's vocal cords. He will accomplish his goal at any cost, a parallel to his own desperate trainer.[break][break]

Ameena gets what she was really gunning for: the appearance of those time powers. But Ameena doesn't see Celebi. She pulls the trigger, expectant, but the time around her stops, blurs, replays. Nausea hits her like a gut punch, and her head pounds. The visual feedback of the sensation and whatever happens to her body when its forcibly pulled like a puppet on a string sickens her. She pulls the trigger a second time. The bullet pierces the ground. Yuina appears with her seamitar drawn. [break][break]

Ameena has a million questions, but the scientist in her (who obsesses openly over Yuina now that it is clear this woman likely holds the power to accomplish what Ameena has spent her lifetime gunning for) is subdued by the veteran. She can interrogate Yuina later. She pushes through the nausea and charges. She clicks the safety on her hand gun and sacrifices the weapon: she throws it at Yuina. It is not only unexpected but something to mess with her priorities and force her to react to the heavy projectile or the closing-in Ameena who twists her body to minimize herself as a target for the sword, one hand outreached for Yuina's throat.

after colliding with ’s lucario, her shadow houndoom was close to fainting. miasma leaked from between bared teeth, and with a spiteful and exhausted snarl, it made one final charge at ’s hisuian samurott, malevolent colors of a shadow break obscuring its silhouette.[break][break]

lulu watched as ameena pulled the trigger, and there was the uncomfortable sensation of reality hiccupping, then yuina had disappeared. what seemed like not a moment later, she rose from shadows, and a phantom burn ripped through lulu at cruel memories of her own darkness.[break][break]

“hm. taking a trick out of my book,” she said bitterly, holding up a hand. psychic power glowed as she attempted to take hold of ’s seamiter, to still it in its wielder’s grasp, only to find the power behind it seemed greater than a sygna suit could do. it was inhuman.[break][break]

”so strong, yuina.” as she stalked towards the others, her eyes remained on the baton-wielding – though words continued for their historian target. ”are you an avatar now?”[break][break]

in the corner of her eye, was positively vicious in a pursuit that seemed personal, vengeful. it became clear they were the same breed. she smirked.[break][break]
