There is venom in the word. They might've been friends, had they been on the same side, but all Cillian feels toward paxton concordas is hate. Moreso than Rocket, than Declan Walsh, he is responsible for the death of Xerneas. It was the kingslayer's bullet that necessitated the lifebringer's sacrifice.[break][break]

The weight of the BEAST BALL in Cillian's hand seems immense under the knowledge that this man has felled legends before, but he does not hesitate to whip it skyward. SHADOW MIASMA trails its path, and it opens to a black hole of swirling shadows that coalesce into a leviathan's shape.[break][break]

PRESSURE blankets the route.[break][break]

He's not surprised that Rocket would move so quickly to push out from Petalburg. Especially with the Kantonian reinforcements, this was the perfect time to begin their conquest outward. But as they brashly pushed out, Paxton had taken the time to revisit an old skin. Scouting further and farther out, inciting chaos amongst Rocket grunts trying to establish footholds. He's nested, rifle at the ready, and aim flying true. Another grunt goes down with a single shot. The only acknowledgement to it is the sound of a casing being tossed out the side of his weapon. [break][break]

But what he doesn't expect if the shadows that coalesce over the corpse. Nor the innate panic that strikes quick and fades. He's been spotted. Even this far out, Cillian Quinn somehow sees him. He's familiar with the terrorist. One of the League's most wanted. Intelligent to a fault, but arrogant too. He remembers their skirmish on the beach years ago and their angry but ultimately equal discussion on the crystalblooms. Their connection had been short. Any contact between Rocket and League was. Thankfully, the dome disappeared, and the crystalblooms stopped threatening their existence. [break][break]

And while he would always respect the tenuous truce and the controlled flow of information, as it stood they were on opposite sides. And he would kill him. His lips twitch into the ghost of a smile as he felt his bones squeezed and his head hurt at the sudden PRESSURE form the Shadow Lugia. The downpour is also bad news. His weapons wouldn't rust instantly, it's not that weak, but it wasn't ideal conditions for fire under duress. [break][break]

Paxton needed to swap tactics, a reality made evident immediately as the sound of gunshot cracks thorugh the forest. Hopper helps him react, dropping him roughly on the forest floor with a sudden TELEPORT. Branches fall, showing just how true of an aim the Underboss held. "We'll take it from here, Hopper." he said, quickly swapping out to his Dragapult. "Ragon, prepare for the worst." he said as the dual type looked above. Paxton gets ready, as Ragon reveals their position with a sudden WILL-O-WISP aimed for the undersea behemoth that sought to end them both.

First the crack of gunfire, then the crack of a falling branch. Cillian scowls at the empty air where his target had been. It could never be easy, could it?[break][break]

Wisps of flame curl around raindrops to reach their target, scorching against Lugia's thick hide. A growl of pain rumbles in the leviathan's throat as the BURN takes hold.[break][break]

She retaliates with a WHIRLPOOL, its power boosted by the downpour. It forms as a vortex in the storm, heading toward the Dragapult that had dared attack her. She bares her teeth in challenge, spiked tail lashing. Ruby eyes shine like bloody spotlights through the gloom.[break][break]

Cillian's attention remains on paxton concordas. Raising his hand to the sky, he curls it into a fist and then brings it down hard. MIASMA coalesces into a SHADOW BOLT that slams down toward the sniper.

Ragon tries to PHANTOM FORCE through the WHIRLPOOL but it sucks him up all too quickly due to its sheer size. And as it struggles and gurgles in the water, Paxton is left in much of the same. Facing off an avatar with no back up? Sure, easy enough. And sure as hell it's one he's already fought this one before. The shadow Lugia roars and he catches sight of it's terrible red eyes. [break][break]

"Cillian Quinn you stubborn bitch." he murmured. How many times would the same terrorist pop up, unable to die. They lock eyes and Paxton moves as he saw the blonde raise his hand to the sky. The sky doesn't even rumble or crackle, it just falls before the thunder clap nearly knocked him over. His ears pop from the blast. Electricity was bad news when he was carrying around what was essentially a giant lightning rod. He'd left his Electrike at home, unfortunately. [break][break]

He's flung partly onto the ground. Not a bad fall. He hadn't chosen a tree this time, thankfully. But still a rough landed when clutching a metal stick to your chest. "New trick?!" he shouted as he got up and moved as he tried to move away form where he'd been standing, lest he got blasted again. He never liked quick shots, but situations like this called for it. He makes for another tree for cover as he took aim at the Avatar and yanks the trigger back. Just as he did, his Dragapult tried to lock eyes with the Shadow behemoth and angrily cast a HEX on it as it chokes out bubbles.

Cillian Quinn is an Avatar, but he's only human.[break][break]

Through the mist of rain and the fog of his own MIASMA, even the Harbinger is slow to react to the shot. He moves, faster than any mortal should, but not fast enough.[break][break]

Pain blooms where the bullet grazes him, rivulets of rain-diluted red sliding down his arm.[break][break]

He is silent in the face of Paxton's challenge but for the grunt of pain the injury had startled from him. His eyes burn deep violet, his silhouette shifting in the mist to something monstrous.

Under the MIASMA's boon, the SKY blackens beneath SHADOW. The rain turns acidic, sizzling at the skin. It seems to have no effect on Cillian or Lugia, the legend swirling those SHADOWS into a cyclone and sending the STORM howling toward both Paxton and his valiantly defending dragon.

He doesn't need a response. The faint noise of paint assures him he's hit his target, though not fatally. But that didn't matter. Let them ache while they waited for the end. But that's easier said than done when the Shadow Lugia's attacks took up so much of their shared battlefield. [break][break]

His Dragapult struggles to return to him, still fighitng the watery vortex that seemed to be replenished by the storm above. As it aimed another huge attack down at the ground, Ragon would sparkle and glow with a sudden surge of power. As a gaudy, green bug crown appeared on hits head, the Dragapult would terastalize and blast a powered up INFESTATION at the Lugia as he tried to restrict it's movement. [break][break]

The dark STORM the beast sends towards them seems to rips branches and shrubs out of the ground. It slaps Ragon backwards, smashing into a thick tree trunk and cracking it. Paxton tried to hunker down as well, dropping to his knees and crouching at the thick roots of a tree. Until he hears a second crack. Then a third. His dragon slides to the ground with a thump. The tree begins to lean and Paxton darts out from cover only to curse as he smelled something burning. Acid on cloth. It was pockmarking the clothes on his back. Not good. The high spread of attacks, and lack of distance was hurting him. If this continued, he'd tired himself out before he could land another shot on either of the shadow duo. Either he took it head on with only a rifle and a dagger, or he tried to back away long enough to set up for another shot in the dark.

A swarm of ghostly insects surges toward Lugia. She rears back, claws digging into the earth as her broad wings beat against the encroaching tide. They nip at her neck and she shakes it in frustration, lashing her tail and leaving deep scores through the earth from its spikes.[break][break]

When it becomes clear she cannot shake this spectral INFESTATION, she enacts her revenge in the form of an ICY WIND, chilling the air before her churning wings and sending it toward where Paxton hides.[break][break]

Cillian can feel the pull of his powers on his energy, refraining from calling upon them when he cannot clearly see his target. He elects to find some cover of his own, back pressed against the bark of a tree as he catches his breath.

Ragon gurgles, stuck in the WHIRLPOOL and trying desperately to breakout, but no matter where he nudged or floated, the water cluing to him. He can't quite gather enough speed to shake it off. Even so, he tries for one more HEX against the burnt Lugia before the ICY WIND hits. Paxton only catches the tail end of this, watching as Ragon screeched, the WHIRLPOOL freezing and encasing him as he dropped out of the sky. Paxton is quick, snapping off Ragon's pokeball and returning him with a quick flick of his wrist. The pokeball shoots out its beam and the dual type is returned before the mass of water crashes into the ground. [break][break]

Soaked to the bone, and now cold from the ice attack, Paxton swaps tactics. He can't see Cillian Quinn anymore, and with the Lugia bearing down on him this close up and personals, he doesn't have enough time to strategize or reposition. So he does the next best thing. "You're up." he said, dropping the premier ball at his feet, almost as if bouncing the pokeball on the ground. Balwin the Klefki pops out and he puts the pokeball away again. "Get me some space." he stated. [break][break]

The dual type floats out of the leaves towards the Lugia before jangling loudly for her attention and sending a swift DRAINING KISS to grab the legendary's attention. As Baldwin worked his distraction, Paxton makes a break through the trees intent on putting distance between him and the avatar. Things weren't looking good, and he currently didn't have anything ready to take on Lugia's battlefield encompassing moves. Everything he had was more dialed in, specific. They'd route him out of the trees eventually, best not stick around until they finally do.

What DRAINING KISS steals, Lugia manages to RECOVER, though the mass of stinging spectral insects still pester the mother of shadows.[break][break]

It is not enough to fully rob her attention from the battle.[break][break]

THEY FLEE.[break][break]

Lugia's deep voice broadcasts into Cillian's mind, a light PRESSURE pushing against his skull that he doesn't fight. There's trust between them.[break][break]

Let him.[break][break]

His objective was to push Oldale, not to confirm kills. Let the Beasts focus on the thrill of the hunt; Cillian is here to plant a flag in Rocket's name.[break][break]

And what more fitting a flag than the SHADOW STORM that descends upon Route 102?
