The door was unlocked, against perhaps Yuina's better judgement, she might have considered locking her office at one point if she could have any one complete thought at a given moment.[break]
Instead, the door opened as Ollie gently pushed inside, where Yuina was stood in front of a board and a cluster of papers that were pinned along the surface. Photo copies of other books, pages of her own writing, common word and foreign word scrawled together. She held a book and a notebook open in her arms as she glanced down behind her glasses, but the sound of the door creaking open caught her attention.[break][break]
Looking up, tired eyes blinked behind her glasses, and there were flashes of fire... Screams... She could feel those oh so fragile threads pricking at her fingertips as she flexed them beneath the covers of her book...[break][break]
"Ollie...," Yuina breathed after a moment, at least he was alright... But there were so many reasons why she didn't try to seek him, or anyone, out after leaving off from sootopolis.[break]
"Uhm... I'm sorry, I haven't seen Dr. Graves recently, he might be out," Yuina offered, anything to deflect, anything to hold onto the threads at her fingertips for just a little while longer.

[break][break] Sympathy glimmered in the Head Ranger's emerald eyes as he stepped through the entryway, closing the distance between him and the historian.

[break][break] He knew that Yuina was overworking herself. He'd heard as much from paxton concordas and other people in the Rangers who had been in contact with her since the end of their respective battles. He opened his mouth to say something about it — only to get caught off-guard by her question. Instantly, his cheeks warmed with a flush.

[break][break] "I - uh. Uh."

[break][break] It was a rare thing for him to be speechless, but speechless he was all the same.

[break][break] Was he that obvious?

[breka][break] "I'm not here to see Gideon," he said lamely, laughing out of awkwardness, as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm here to see you, Yuina."

[break][break] "I wanted to check up on you — to see how you were doing."

[break][break] His brows knitted together as he finished closing the distance between them, trying to ignore the redness in his cheeks or the skip of his heartrate when the other Ranger had caught him off-guard.

She knew why he was there, why Ollie had come, she could only imagine. He cared so much for her, and it hurt to know how much he did, how much pain she was liable to cause him... She wasn't worth that.[break][break]
'Oh...," her eyes cast down behind her glasses, she wished he hadn't. She wished he'd just stay away, that everyone she was going to hurt would just keep their distance... But it was because Yuina had been so selfish in this life that she had so many people that were going to get hurt because of her. She hated herself for it.[break][break]
"I... I'm fine, just staying busy. Studying, working on reports for those golden Pokémon that have been coming around," she deflected again, at least stating one true fact. She wasn't fine, but she was staying busy and working on the appearance of what she believed to be something closely tied to what she knew.[break][break]
"I'm noticing some discrepancies, I think, in the language I know versus what I've been translating, I've been trying to get some documentation ready to present with Dr. Graves," she continued, focus on her work, focus on facts, she could do that... Though as Ollie moved closer towards her, her fingers flexed again, she blinked trying to get the image of his burning figure out of her mind's eye. She was just so glad that he was alright...
