Incinerating the earth? What a great idea! Pon joined Doug’s offensive, summoning a fiery plume that briefly resembled her misplaced Hearthflame Mask. Their combined assault rendered the ground before them a smoking, brimstone tapestry.

“Did we get all of them?” Andrea just assumed that they had. Nothing could have survived that. She would reap the consequences of her hubris in due time. “Phew… That was scary, but I’m glad it’s over!”

Wasn’t she supposed to be mad at someone? Oh, right. The dragon fanatic turned back to Howard, furrowing her brow at him. “Do you believe me now? Those statues are too dangerous to just let them hang around!”

As the earth was burned and salted, Howard slowly but surely backed away, his limbs trembling from the weight of his cargo. Luckily, Andrea Vaneau was often a few Deinos short of a Hydreigon (she was short one of those, too), and had seemingly forgotten about the archaeologist who had started this entire debacle.

When she finally remembered to look at him, the admin paled. He had almost disappeared into the tree line. Doug, meanwhile, gave Howard an eyeroll as the bear lumbered to his side.

"..." In his hands was a blackened yet perfectly preserved Okidogi statue. His limbs trembled from the weight of the statue, yet Howard didn't let it go. "...that's why we'll lock them away so our children can learn about them."

Doug growled in exasperation.

They had once again reached an impasse, with Howard insisting that they needed to preserve those blighted effigies for future generations, while Andrea and her Ogerpon were hellbent on their destruction.

“You’re supposed to give nice things to your children, like lollipops and birthday presents, not evil statues that turn into evil Pokémon!” The young woman shot right back at the delusional Rocket admin, before extending her hand. “Give it to me now, or I’ll… I’ll kick you!”

“Pon pon!” The masked Oni readied its signature mallet in case the man played hardball with them.

"Kick me all you want! It doesn't matter!" The thought of getting kicked around by an ogre terrified the archaeologist, but his belief held strong. "I get it! These statues are cursed! They're evil! And yet..."

He clenched a fist in defiance while Doug continued to growl at him.

"...I want to see people overcome this evil for themselves, a thousand years from now. I want people to improve and overcome this, rather than let you smash them all. You're doing the right thing, but let me keep this one!"

His eye was wide and pleading, and despite the archaeologist's easily kickable form, his arms were trembling from carrying the statue while staring down Andrea and Ogerpon.

"Please!"

Howard’s final plea fell on deaf ears. Andrea heard that she was right and then a bunch of static. Of course she was! Why wait a thousand years to overcome the Loyal Three when they could do it right then and there?

“Ponyo…” The masked ogress bowed her head to Doug, as if apologizing for what her caretaker was about to do.

“Sorry, can’t wait a thousand years! DRAGON KICK!!” The eccentric girl cried out, closing the distance, and aiming a mighty kick straight at the archaeologist’s priceless family jewels.

On Mt. Pyre, there was silence. The dead slumbered in their graves, comforted in the fact that their trainers still loved them.

"AIYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Howard Slayte fell to the ground, defeated. The statue fell to the ground before the ogre and her retinue, and the archaeologist rolled around on the ground in pain. He rolled a dozen times, screaming and moaning in pain.

"OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!"

Doug growled and grabbed Howard's leg, before dragging him off.

Howard Slayte’s shrill cry of agony made the girl almost feel bad for kicking him. “S-sorry…”

This was necessary. Not in the same way the League deemed certain atrocities ‘necessary’. No, this went beyond the moral grayness of faction conflict. Destroying those evil effigies was objectively the right thing to do.

No sooner had the Okidogi statue left the admin’s grasp than did Ogerpon smash it to bits with her Ivy Cudgel, reducing the number of active threats in Hoenn by one. It wasn’t much, but it was honest work.

As the ancient bear began to drag its still reeling trainer away, Andrea waved at them. “Bye, Howard! Bye, Doug! Hope we can still be friends after this!” She hollered, holding onto that tiny bit of optimism the war had yet to take away.

"Agggghhhhhhhhh..."

The admin moaned as he disappeared into the foliage like a ghost. Despite the callousness of Andrea, the bear seemed to agree with her actions. Whatever the archaeologist's goals were for the statues and for the world at large, they had been stopped by a mighty kick to the Regirocks, as it were.

For now, anyway.

"Auguhhhhhhhhh..."
