When Tempest had asked to use Cillian Quinn's phone, his husband had wordlessly and without question passed it to him. His own had been ruined while engulfed inside whatever the fuck Yveltal had done. Part one of returning from the dead as some zombified vampire was letting everyone know he was... kind of alive.[break][break]

So Tempest had asked to borrow his husband's phone and then promptly messaged howard slayte.[break][break]

Johto King being a small, family owned and dubiously authentic buffet in Oldale Town. After half mentioning it to Cillian he had been craving it. It seemed like the perfect place to catch up on un-death.[break][break]

When Howard would arrive, the young woman at the counter would ask for his drink and then point at a table in the corner. All that was there was a tall glass of iced tea, condensation already collecting on the outside of the cheap plastic Charga Cola printed glass. He'd already gotten up to get his food and was circling the wontons.

If Howard Slayte had a nickel for every time he'd been sent a dubious text that would likely ruin his life, he'd have two nickels. It wasn't a lot, but it meant that Chu-e was going into an incinerator for drinking his booze and sabotaging his text messages.

Realistically, if the admin had been thinking at all, he would've wondered why Cillian—a high ranking member of Team Rocket—would enjoy shitty Johto buffets in Oldale. It wasn't like the city would remain standing forever, especially with Oldale having nobody to lead it beyond Hideo Kino in the nearby Littleroot.

Poor kid, that.

"Nineteen PD? It went up again." The admin grumbled as he paid at the front and meandered into the buffet proper. Perhaps Arceus was testing how much He could ruin Howard's life, because the admin didn't notice Tempest wandering around in search of yummy food.

Maybe it helped that Howard's sight wasn't that good.

Regardless, Howard sat at a random booth and began texting Cillian Quinn.

I'm here. Letting you know that I'm writing this off as a business expense. Nineteen PD is fucking absurd. Where you at?

Elsewhere, Prince the Gardevoir was shit faced while Chu-e was none the wiser. But this is not about him.[break][break]

Temp has a plate full of food when he spots howard slayte. Grabbing his drink, the Hoyeon makes his way over to the other. It's just bad luck for Howard that he happens to approach from his blind side.[break][break]

His plate clinks on the table, a few grains of fried rice spilling onto the surface. A small grunt is given when he flops down in the seat across from the other. Tempest smiles at the man like he wasn't declared dead over a week and a half ago. Like he didn't... look different. The smile is toothy with two giant fangs. Glasses, reading ones picked up for cheap from how the frames look, do very little to hide a new golden glow to his eyes. Dark skin seems washed out like a dead body's. A long sleeved turtleneck, too hot for the Hoenn weather, can't hide the ominous red veins and patterning on the backs of his hands.[break][break]

Wooden chopsticks are split so they can pluck chicken off his plate.[break][break]

Who the hell was this?

Why was he eating chicken off of Howard's plate?

What was the deal with the odd red tattoos? They were eerily similar to Howard's scars.

Where the hell was Cillian Quinn?

"I'm sorry, I don't know you." Howard frowned in annoyance, though he remained courteous. Getting kicked out of Johto King for causing a ruckus wasn't on the archaeologist's bingo card. "I'm actually waiting for a friend, so if you could leave I'd appreciate it."

Was he being played? The admin's eye wandered across the restaurant, as if expecting to find someone with a camera recording him.

"Like, now."

Tempest had only had the briefest of glimpses at himself since returning. It had made him physically ill. A towel had stayed over the bathroom mirror since then; Tempest suspected that Cillian had been replacing it for him. Whatever howard slayte was seeing, it wasn't who Tempest actually was.[break][break]

Tempest Quinn had also had a funeral.[break][break]

He shifts some in his seat, uncomfortable.[break][break]

Placing his chopsticks down, Tempest takes a deep breath as if steeling himself.[break][break]

"Howard," Is started, quiet. "I messaged you." A pause. He almost sounds apologetic when he speaks next. "Tempest."

A funeral he had stood outside of. A funeral he had argued with a child over. Howard thought of himself as one of the most humane Rockets. He fought for the world, not for them. He fought for people who had nowhere else to go. Yet if that was the case, he wouldn't have spat on clover matamata at the funeral.

He would've at least tried to console Tempest's husband. Instead, the admin had offered exclusively vitriol for the simple reason that Howard hated Tempest Quinn.

And yet...

"You're not him." Howard said simply. "He died."

His eye began to water.

"H-he died... you're not him. You're n-not..." Yet it was. "H-he's dead..."
