Hands that caused pain reach to gently cup Cillian Quinn's cheeks. A thumb brushes easy circles under his eye, trying to soothe the deep bags hiding underneath. The other finds the nail-marks left behind to smooth over. Would it really be so different from the playing they did? From the pain caused for pleasure?[break][break]

Of course. But we could all lie to ourselves until we believed it. Tempest and Cillian were no different.[break][break]

As the primal terror fades, Cillian's frantic mind plucks at stray threads. This wasn't so bad. Temp had only wanted to stop him from leaving, to keep Cillian from making a mistake. He hadn't wanted to hurt him.[break][break]

"I love you, too." This isn't a lie, these words aren't merely to soothe the beast. There are tears in his eyes as he speaks them, and he leans into the touch that had bruised him not minutes before. "But I killed you. Not with Yveltal, but after. I thought you were possessed and I-"[break][break]

He can't say it again. Once was enough.[break][break]

Gently, he pulls down the fabric of the turtleneck. Temp's taken to wearing them in the weeks since. His shaking fingers brush over the purple-black lines of corruption.[break][break]

"I ripped your throat out," he says, so soft as to almost be inaudible. "Even you said it."[break][break]

Tears slide hot down his cheeks. He's so tired, so light-headed. He just wants to rest. It's easier not to fight. Temp has taken the choice away from him, and it's met with a kind of relief.[break][break]

He didn't have to feel guilty any more.

"I stopped caring about that as soon as I slept." Tempest allow Cillian Quinn to pluck at him, to peel down the uncomfortable turtleneck and take in the damage that he had done. [break][break]

The hand that cups his cheek pulls him close, so that Tempest can lean forward to press their foreheads together. The hand on Cillian's throat drops to wrap loosely around his husband's hips.[break][break]

"You thought I was there to kill you. I almost did because I couldn't control myself." Tempest shakes his head lightly, as if to smooth over the wounds between them. "You didn't like looking at it, so I started hiding it. I thought it reminded you of... of Yveltal. Of what she did to me."

He has deprived himself of Temp's comfort for weeks. Cillian's frigid temperament had been a result of his desperate attempt to put distance between them, to give himself the courage to sever the most important bond in his life. He'd never held any of it against Temp, except perhaps Temp's continued recklessness in the face of danger.[break][break]

He'd only wanted to keep him safe, and yet he'd only hurt him worse by doing so.[break][break]

A new guilt forms.[break][break]

"I'm sorry," he says again, hoarse and horrified. "I-I thought you were ashamed, I thought maybe you couldn't bear to look at what I'd done-"[break][break]

Miscommunication. If they'd only talked to each other, it would've worked out fine. But Cillian's not been raised to talk about his problems. He's been raised to step lightly around them, to adapt himself to suit others rather than confronting their issues.[break][break]

So he'd found what he thought was a solution.[break][break]

"I'm yours," is whispered against Temp's neck, against the scars he's left him with. "I-I didn't really want to leave, I just wanted you to be safe, and how can you trust me after that?" Hot tears drip against Temp's skin. Cillian chases the comfort of possession, paradoxically. "I'm yours, I promise."

"You're mine." It's repeated, sweet, as if it wasn't a chain that would weight heavy on Cillian Quinn for the rest of his life.[break][break]

The question of 'how can you trust me?' is raised. But Tempest didn't have to worry about that. Cillian was his. Cillian would never leave him. Tempest would not give him that choice.[break][break]

So Tempest kisses him. Because he's wanted to kiss him like this since he got back. Deep and slow and languid. Taking his time even as Cillian drips salty tears onto him. It's brief enough to not leave them breathless, only long enough to properly taste.[break][break]

"I know something you can do for me."[break][break]

And even as Tempest says it, he knows that he does not need to ask it. But Cillian was a creature made of anxiety. This show of devotion would help soothe the self-inflicted wounds on his heart. For this, Tempest will be selfish. He will take.

Temp kisses him, and for the first time in weeks, Cillian surrenders himself to the affection. He's crying, shaking, but he kisses back with a desperate need to soothe the wounds he's opened.[break][break]

There is fear, too. That phantom memory of the game that had given him a glimpse into his husband's darkness.[break][break]

But Temp won't hurt him so long as he stays, right?[break][break]

So long as he's loyal?[break][break]

"Anything," he vows, before Temp has given so much of a hint as to what he wants. Sex, perhaps, after weeks of Cillian shutting him out? His hand slips down to brush over his husband's crotch in a silent signal of willingness. [break][break]

It's not as though he wanted to leave. Temp has always kept him safe. He'll continue to keep him safe.[break][break]

So long as he stays.[break][break]

Love has become a prison as secure as Rocket or Galar had been, but it was a prison of his own making. He'd seen Temp's darkness and chosen not only to accept it, but to eclipse his light. This was the monster he'd created.[break][break]

He kisses Temp again, initiating this time to prove that he was not simply submitting out of fear.

Cillian Quinn kisses him again. Tempest leans into it; allows Cillian to take as much as he wants from him. The break off is slow. The hand that brushes against him is gently cupped and brought up to his lips; each knuckle kissed before he plants a lingering one on the palm.[break][break]

"Later." Is promised, dark and warm.[break][break]

A breath is taken to prepare them both. Gold stares deeply into gold when Tempest speaks again. It's almost unsure, as if he isn't sure how Cillian take the suggestion.[break][break]

As if nothing had just changed between them.[break][break]

"Will you get my family's tattoo?"[break][break]

They had talked about it a few times. Cillian had always been receptive; but something always came up. It was just never the right time.[break][break]

The Milotic Brand, the sign of his family lineage for generations, was something only shared with family. Cillian would never be Sachem but he deserved to be associated with Tempest as his Soulmate. His husband.[break][break]
