Cillian knows it's his fault. From the moment he'd sunk his claws into Tempest Quinn's neck to when he enters their apartment that morning, he knows the burden is his to bear. Temp won't thank him for any of this.[break][break]

You ripped my throat out.[break][break]

Cillian's hands are shaking. It's for the best.[break][break]

He takes a moment by the front door to compose himself. He stills his shaking hands, scrubs at his face, steels his expression. He'll get it over with quickly. Like ripping off a band-aid.[break][break]

Easier for the both of them, that way.[break][break]

He shuffles into the dining room and sets the papers down on the table. He's already signed his own name.[break][break]

"Hey, Temp?" Not love or babe. "We need to talk."

Tempest wishes he knew what he did wrong.[break][break]

His main blame is Yveltal. Every since his resurrection, there had been too many shifts in his private like. It was hard to face the world when you had died. Hard to look at the people who had missed you, mourned you, and try to pretend that everything was okay. It wasn't.[break][break]

But even for the tears and fights, Tempest's return had seemed to wear on Cillian Quinn's heart the hardest. The rift between them was one that he felt like he couldn't cross. That if he screamed and screamed, it was so wide that Cillian wouldn't hear him from the other side. It felt like he was chasing him, hand out, but Cillian was always just out of his grasp.[break][break]

Right now he's free. Tempest had thrown himself into his work as beast, into righting his wrongs by dying, in some hope that whatever folly against his husband would be fixed. Maybe if he just worked a little harder, his husband would look at him again and not flinch when he tried to kiss him. Maybe Cillian wouldn't stiffen up when Temp tried to cuddle him in bed at night.[break][break]

Maybe if he was just a little better.[break][break]

But right now he's free. Before Cillian had gotten home, he'd worked hard to tidy up the house into spotlessness. Another thing he had done even when bone tired in the hopes that Cil would just want him again. At this moment, he's taking a break and waiting for the oven to preheat so he can start dinner.[break][break]

When Cillian enters, Tempest perks up from looking at his (new) phone. Cillian would see how he lights up at being addressed, then how that light dimmed. As if Tempest was afraid to shine too bright; in case it would hurt the other's eyes. That goes through to confusion when Temp takes in Cillian's body language and tone.[break][break]

He places a hand on the papers to pull them closer.[break][break]

"Of course, uh..." A few glances between the paper and Cillian. "What is this?"[break][break]

Then Cillian would see when it clicked.

Cillian's always been selfish. His own life, his own happiness, his own survival has always been of paramount importance to him. He could sleep at night in spite of his crimes because he was looking out for himself.[break][break]

He hasn't slept in three days.[break][break]

Temp is the one thing in Cillian's life that he holds above himself.[break][break]

How many times has he been told he doesn't deserve someone like Tempest Quinn? That he's ruined a perfectly good man? That he's a danger to the one he loves the most? It's never bothered him before. He's laughed at those people who think they know better than Temp, than Cillian. Their love was a beautiful thing. It didn't matter if no one saw it but the two of them.[break][break]

He'd believed that up until he'd killed his husband with his own two hands.[break][break]

It's not hatred or even discomfort for Temp that prompts Cillian to take this final, drastic step. It's love. He loves Temp more than he's ever loved anything, more than he loves himself.[break][break]

And if he wants Temp to be safe...[break][break]

"I want a divorce."

Those four words has the world falling out from under Temp's feet. White noise blares in his ears, a high pitched ringing as shock courses through him. His mind races into a cacophony of sound with no clear beginning and end. Tempest sits, stunned, eyes wide with horror and confusion on his face as he stares up at Cillian Quinn.[break][break]

Hot flashes wrack him while he feels ice chill up his spine.[break][break]

(Distantly, Yveltal would prod at his mind, both curious and alarmed.)[break][break]

"W-wha?" Tempest can't even choke out words. His breathing gets very light and fast, quick breaths as he tries to catch his breath.[break][break]

Wide golden eyes locked onto Cillian.

He sees the precise moment Temp's heart shatters.[break][break]

I'm sorry, he wants to say. Wants to take it back, to beg forgiveness, to whisper I love you and hold his husband close. To tell him everything would be OK.[break][break]

But it would be a lie, wouldn't it?[break][break]

It feels like he's swallowing glass. He clenches his jaw to stop his lip from trembling.[break][break]

"Obviously I can't leave Hoenn in the middle of war, but I'll - figure something out. You can have whatever you want, I-" He has to pause to control the tone of his voice, to stop it from pitching with the grief and desperation that's flooding through him. His breath shivers. "It's for the best."[break][break]

For you.[break][break]

He'd come up with a whole script, had planned to approach this with the same chilling calm that he often employed in Rocket meetings. But when Cillian can feel his emotions overwhelming him, when he feels like he's about to cry, he knows he needs to leave before burdening Temp with the guilt.[break][break]

"I'll give you some time."[break][break]

He gets up abruptly and starts to leave. Only when his back is turned do the tears shine in his eyes.

The world slowly, slowly stills.[break][break]

Even as Cillian Quinn talks, he would see how the panic fades from Tempest's face and body. It's like he's a deflating balloon, or maybe a tranqed animal. Face smoothed over clear like glass, eyes empty, breaths calm and still and measured. He stares at Cillian and does not speak, lips pulled into a fine, thin line. It is much like what Temp does in meetings, when not poked in the ribs and forced to bare teeth.[break][break]

Calm, emotionless breaths. There is no twitching. Tempest is a statue. Tempest is still. Tempest is controlled.[break][break]

(On the roof, Yveltal shifts. She opens her wings and wobbles as she tries to shift on her perch. By accident, distracted, she knocks into Lugia. Instead of the snarling vitriol for the Abomination she would normally express, she would turn to the Corrupted Sea Guardian dazed and alarmed.)[break][break]

Cillian might thing that Tempest has accepted it, or maybe something else, but then again- Cillian is turning with his tail between his legs to flee from what he has done.[break][break]

Cillian Quinn turns. Tempest Quinn stands with the force for his chair to be knocked backwards. The snatching grip on the blond's wrist is tight enough to bruise.

A manacle of skin as tight as steel around his wrist.[break][break]

Cillian stills.[break][break]

Temp is never violent with him. Not without permission. Even their worst fights have been fought with words. It takes a few heartbeats to register that the sharp tug against his wrist, the resistance he meets in his attempt to leave, is Temp.[break][break]

Yet he doesn't panic. He turns to his soon-to-be-ex husband, and though his eyes shine, his voice is low and calm.[break][break]

"Let me go."[break][break]

Firm, commanding. The voice of an underboss, not a lover.[break][break]

A command, but also a plea.[break][break]

Can't you see this is what you should want?

Cillian Quinn speaks with the voice of an Underboss.[break][break]

"No."[break][break]

Tempest speaks with the voice of a monster.[break][break]

When Tempest and Cillian had first met, it had been as Norman Rararie and Gavin Merlino. A name that didn't fit for one, a false protection for the other. Gavin Merlino had looked past the quivering whelp of a man that Norman Rararie had been and seen what was underneath. He had dug his fingers into clay and shaped it into what he had wanted it to be.[break][break]

The beast that Cillian had made had never bared fangs at it's maker. It had always stood just behind him, snarling at whatever enemies that it's lover might point it at. A loyal creature who dined on bones and blood at it's maker's behest. Never once, even at their tensest moments, had Tempest shown those fangs to Cillian.[break][break]

Tempest shows his teeth and Cillian is forced to look into the glowing blue eyes of what he has made.[break][break]

Now, the black look in his eyes is not one of kindness or love.[break][break]

A prickling whispered reminder of something from long ago. In another universe, real or simulated, Tempest had sliced off all of Cillian's limbs and forced him to stay with him. This is the thing that did that. This is what Cillian created with no foresight of the repercussions.[break][break]

The grip tightens.[break][break]

"I didn't give you permission to leave, Cillian."

It's the fuel to Cillian's fire and the water to douse those flames when they burned too bright. An effective tool for control, invisible manacles that bind him to Rocket.[break][break]

He's never been afraid of Temp. Not like this.[break][break]

But when he looks at the man he'd married, he sees for the first time the Beast he's nurtured.[break][break]

"Permission?" He's shocked, appalled, but the tremor in his voice isn't from anger. His chest tightens, breath caught in his throat. "I don't need permission."[break][break]

He makes to jerk his arm away, eyes narrowed.[break][break]

PRESSURE settles over the apartment. His ears are ringing.

Cillian Quinn would feel himself starting to freeze from the toes upwards.[break][break]

Tempest would narrow his eyes.[break][break]

"You do." The hand drops from Cillian's wrist. With the fluidity of a predator, Tempest closes the miniscule gap between them. Chest to chest, he seems to loom over the Galarian despite being shorter. A firm hand clamps over Cillian's throat. Squeezes just hard enough to cut off air. Nails dig rivets into the tender flesh. He uses it to drag Cillian close, as if the Harbinger is nothing but a shaking leaf to be plucked.[break][break]

Eye to eye.[break][break]

"You're mine, Cillian. Nothing is going to take you from me." A pause. Tempest licks his lips; his new, real fangs gleam in the artificial light of the room.[break][break]

"Not. Even. You."

He'd encouraged this, too.[break][break]

How many times had he asked Temp to say those words in the heat of passion? You're mine. Such possessiveness made him feel wanted, made him feel safe.[break][break]

Now, it's ice sliding down his spine as fingers close around his throat.[break][break]

Temp narrows his eyes, and Cillian's widen. Shock. Betrayal.[break][break]

All the warning signs have been ignored. He remembers, now, the eerily accurate simulations presented in that silly little dating app. Except Temp's. There was no way his sweet, loving husband would go to such lengths.[break][break]

Or would he?[break][break]

How many steps were they from the man who'd removed Cillian's limbs just to keep him safe?[break][break]

Cillian Quinn is a monster, too. A killer. A villain. These things are undeniable. He is a powerful force. But when met with something stronger? He has been taught to bend.[break][break]

Like a leaf, the Harbinger trembles before a storm, a tempest.

He stays silent for a long stretch, just staring into Cillian Quinn's eyes. They've played like this before. Temp knows how much air that Cillian can give before he's lightheaded and starts to see spots. When the blond would reach that point, his hand would release it's vice grip.[break][break]

Tempest's eyes are still blue, though. Cillian might start to feel a little tired on top of the slow petrification.[break][break]

"Why are you trying to leave me?"[break][break]

It's a hedged out accusation. Aggressive without his voice raising above the low gravel it had taken on. Just as quick as Tempest had let Cillian go, he snatches his husband's chin to force him to look at him. The grip is still tight enough to pinch but not enough to bruise- for now.

They've played like this before.[break][break]

Temp isn't playing, now. Cillian can feel himself getting lightheaded, grips at Temp's wrist in a silent plea for the other to release his hold. When he does, Cillian takes shaky gasps of air. He feels as though he's going to faint.[break][break]

There's a split second in which he could run. Even after Temp grips him by the chin, Cillian knows he could escape. His MIASMA makes him quick.[break][break]

Only there's a stiffness in his limbs that tells him that it's not just terror that traps him here.[break][break]

He has to take another shuddering breath before he can answer. His voice is soft, but more than that, it's gentle. The voice of someone trying to soothe a wild animal, a predator.[break][break]

"I hurt you," he whispers. I killed you. He could explain further, but there's something else on his mind. "Y-You're not going to hurt me, are you?"[break][break]

It's what he's learned to expect from those who claim to love him. Honestly, he should have seen it coming.

Another silence drags on before Tempest answers. Or, perhaps, it is only a few beats. With the way the tension sits taunt in the air around them, a scant few moments could have been years.[break][break]

"This hurt me more."[break][break]

It's said just as gentle as their first caress.[break][break]

Cillian Quinn, a man who shined and rose above so many others, was cowering like a lamb before him. It would be easy to slice open his throat like this. Tempest can see that, now. He wouldn't even resist. Cillian would be the most beautiful sacrifice upon Tempest's altar, would tilt his head back so pretty and allow his life's blood to be drained down the Hoyeon's throat. He would never do it with a knife, no, that was too impersonal. But his teeth, those would do just fine.[break][break]

Instead of any of that, Tempest blinks and seems to slightly come back into himself. Gold eyes shine back instead of blue, now. He drops his hand entirely and takes a step backwards, away from the other.[break][break]

"I would never try to hurt you." Is said as Tempest struggles to lock the beast back inside of himself. As much as the bits and bytes on-screen had foretold a different outcome, he does not tear out his lover's heart to devour it. He is not so far gone. Yet.
