There were many and more things to be accomplished in Blades & Bulwarks, but standing above them all was the current activity username Nightingale found himself participating in diligently:

Checking out the beach glamours. *Wolf whistle*

Many of the NPC's and even player characters were adorned with beach attire: scantily clad maidens, men in speedos and biker shorts, you name it, Fontaine's beach had it. And an interesting take on jiggle physics to boot. He felt thirteen again.

Luckily for him he seemed rather inconspicuous hanging around for now, blending in with the fresh wave of newbies wearing their starter armor and weapons, looking like just another explorer...

The game had only just been released publically but River had probably gotten his hands on an early-access copy. That, or he just had literally nothing better to do so he had been no-lifeing the game. [break][break]

Unfortunately, however, his sleep schedule had been so fucked up he hadn't been able to connect with Adrian at the same time he was awake. So he had stayed up all night this time in order to be online for when his friend showed up.[break][break]

For the most part their text messages had been casual and with simple instructions. River had suggested they meet up in Fontaine, informing him that he'd be on the beach 'enjoying himself'. [break][break]

With a winky face.[break][break]

But when Adrian would pass by, he might have already at first missed him. River, better known in the virtual world as 'UwU', was stretched out on the beachside, wearing nothing but a tight speedo. He had a martini glass in his hand and a busty babe offering him more drinks. He wore a dramatically large hat to hide him from the sun, but they hadn't implemented sunburn yet, so he had nothing to worry about.[break][break]

It just made him look like more of a chad, which was the goal.

After searching for some time without results, he started punching River's alleged username into a search bar to be extra sure. After confirming they were in the right area, he looked around, though nobody fit quite what he'd expected from River.

Nightingale>> Dude where are you?

Nightingale>> I've been up and down this beach!

Irritated with his fruitless search, Adrian decided to sit down where he was and wait for a clue. He could bide his time while enjoying the many different views, and enjoying the synthesized sea breeze that rolled over him with the smell of brine.

...I could really get used to this feeling on my skin.

With a snort, River wakes up to the sound of his whisper messenger going off. It flashes in the bottom corner and he spills some of his drink that he had miraculously still been holding fast to even while dozing. His lovely hostess had disappeared due to his inactivity, and it's probably because of the 'AFK' above his head that Adrian hadn't been able to find him.[break][break]

But it took him about one second to find Adrian further down the beach. He was sitting, waiting. [break][break]

River readjusts his hat and gets to his feet, a goofy smirk on his face. The in-game drunk settings were dope, dude.[break][break]

He makes his way down to meet his friend, plopping down next to him in the sand. He cranes his neck, examining the guys face.[break][break]

"Cute."

"You think so?" Adrian wasn't going to leave it to question; he'd put some effort into this avatar, and he was going to get his mileage out of it. His eyes winking shut, he waves his hand dismissively at the comment and instead puts River's in the limelight. "Yours isn't what I was expecting."

"I still like it, though. I just wasn't expecting you to pick something quite so... macho." But their lush, flowing ardent mane was enough to make him want to run his hands over and through their tufts of alabaster locks and ivory strands of hair.

"So, have you been further up the beach?"

There were less people, and that meant secrecy...

River chuckles at Adrian's question, leaning back on his hands and staring out to the ocean. The water was so realistic it was hard not to stare at it, after all.[break][break]

"Really? I'm a badass IRL so I figured I'd be a badass in VR, too. Look how fuckin' swole I am, dude."[break][break]

River gets to his feet readily, flexing his bare arms and chest, even going so far as to rap his knuckles against his rock hard abs. He kisses his bicep with a smirk before looking back at Adrian.[break][break]

"I'm a goddamn snack."[break][break]

He glances over her shoulder, relaxing his muscles to stare down the beach in the direction Adrian had mentioned. He shrugs.[break][break]

"Not really. I was having too much fun hanging out with the rest of the players."[break][break]

Just at the mention of that, River's attention is momentarily snagged by a couple of player-character girls winking and giggling at him due to his previous display of macho-ness.[break][break]

He finger-guns at them before turning back to Adrian.[break][break]

"Why? You think there's something cool up there?"

Adrian manages only to huff with laughter. Badass? Adrian wasn't so sure of that, not in the same way they'd likely meant it, at least. And watching them put on a Herculean display only worsened his take on 'Bara River' even further. "If you say so..."

What bothers him though is the way that River fixates on other players, even after they've already met up. It drives a wedge between them; frays his nerves, leaving him embittered. "Maybe not..."

"So what level are you, anyways?" That's the part of the game he'd been focusing on up until now, and it might offer better conversation matter.

River doesn't notice, or perhaps doesn't give any indication he notices Adrian's distaste of his macho display. He had created his avatar in his image but better. He was taller, buffer, stronger, cooler, and that's all he cared about.[break][break]

Instead, he responds indifferently to Adrian's question about what level he is. Well, sort of. It appears that there might be a sore spot on the subject.[break][break]

"Oh, you know. It's pretty hard to level up in this game. Player-killers and all that. But I managed to unlock my fourth move which is pretty sweet."[break][break]

He juts his chin in the direction of the beach, gesturing to the long stretch of sand with his thumb.[break][break]

"You wanna check it out? C'mon, let's explore some."[break][break]

River hesitates a moment before taking the initiative, preoccupied with the feeling of the sand between his bare toes.

"That's too bad. At least you've gotten that far, though." It wasn't much, but it was a start. Even Adrian was lagging behind, although he was concerting his efforts more carefully.

Adrian's jealousy goes unnoticed, which is for the best. As the other takes the lead, Adrian hesitates. "Hmm... I guess." Rising to his height, he sets off before taking pause just as quickly. "One sec."

He toggles on a glamour set he's prepared in the meantime, although admittedly it's just most of his armor removed. But nobody had to tell River that. If River wanted something to gawk at, he'd oblige.

"Heading anywhere in particular...?"

Adrian hesitates, begging for a second of time. The warrior turns in time to watch his partner change from his typical ranger gear to something a little more.. comfortable. And sexy.[break][break]

Unfortunately, though, while River's avatar was topless, it appeared that Adrian's was not so revealing. Bummer. Regardless, the change in attire has captured River's attention.[break][break]

He purses his lips in a smirk as he lets his eyes wander up and down the man's figure.

"...Further up the shoreline. I don't like the crowds." He might've wanted to grab them by the hand, but instead he captivates them with his gait as he embellishes his usual pace, trying to give something interesting to tail after. A bit of a flaunt in his step; nothing more or less.

"We really need to get you some experience though," he confers to River as they shuffle up the beach, leaving a swathe of footprints in their wake. The grit of silica between his toes is nostalgic; recollections of vacations at the beach surface. Too bad he hadn't been in years...

Maybe him and River could check out Slateport beach together, but that'd have to wait for after spring. The water was too chilly for his preference.

"We should try partying up the next time you go questing. It'll be more fun that way."
