it was evident that kat wasn't all too amused with the fact that this mission simply required her to rest with another player. why would anyone playing a VRMMORPG game want to rest? the whole point is to kill others. to fight as many people as possible - and in katherine's case - win all of those fights. normally, she'd avoid even taking such a mission. but it did offer a nice amount of exp - so - to hell with it. she'd do it. even if it means waiting here for a stranger to sit down with her. whatever. as long as she gets to level up and buy her next spell, it's fine.

her recent fight taught her that CC is one hell of a bitch, and she needs to counter it. cheap builds exist on any game, so no one can fault kat for wanting to have an ace she could use versus them, right?

either way, not long after lighting a small bonfire for herself, she started holding a pot with some chocolate in it above the fire. she'd need to wait for it to melt before adding the milk.

Exhausted and hungry after her most recent run-in with a bounty that had been fruitless and a waste of time - Stormy decided to take advantage of the more boring of her quests. It featured starting a fire and settling in next to it. Easy enough, but tedious and boring. She'd avoided it in favor of more exciting quests: like hunting down other players or defeating impressive bosses.[break][break]

But now was definitely the time for some rest and relaxation, and for her to blow off some much-needed steam. She was still plucking ice from her robes when she stumbles upon the free-to-use campfire. She'd come back to Ignis to at least not entirely hate the whole quest experience: Ignis was her favourite. [break][break]

And then she realises she's bumped into the same girl she'd just blown up not too long ago. Had this been her last respawn spot? Weird coincidence.[break][break]

how unfortunate can this day even get? all katherine wanted was to complete this quest without anyone bothering her, and to drink this hot chocolate that supposedly increased power inside the game. she most certainly didn't want someone to bother her - let alone the same girl who killed her a hour ago. seriously, how unlucky can she be?

"did you like the armor?" she rolls her eyes, watching stormy with her amber gaze. "that idiot lied, like i told you. he just couldn't accept losing, so he made up a fake armor." she will get her revenge on him some other day, surely. he'll regret ever posting that message. "the name is kat. not pinky, not catty and not kathy." a sigh parted through her lips, kat now adding the milk to the melted chocolate. the drink will be ready in a minute or two.

Stormy laughs, a loud guffaw at how blatantly annoyed it appeared the pinkette was to see her. She couldn't really blame her, after all, who wanted to meet up with their killer right after being killed?[break][break]

And yet, here she was. Stormy had shed her irritation over having not been given the sweet loot she'd been promised on the journey to Ignis, so she was in a relatively good mood upon arriving.[break][break]

"Yeah, it sounded too good to be true. But hey, we get achievements for killing and being killed - so we both won something anyway."[break][break]

She shrugs as she shrugs off her heavy robe to settle down in front of the already-blazing fire.[break][break]

Katherine corrects her on the pronunciation of her actual name and Stormy remains indifferent. [break][break]

"Yeah and I'm the weather girl, what's it to ya?"[break][break]

But then 'Kat' offers her some hot chocolate and the fire mage leans back in surprise, regarding her with a calculating stare.[break][break]

"If we weren't in a PVP zone I'd be worried you'd poison me. No hard feelings, right?"

she rises from her seat on the ground to head over to stormy, the hot chocolate cup still held by one of her hands, "no hard feelings. i promise." it was either the fake avatar that allowed the pink-haired mage to lie so easily, or, she simply had training from before. whichever it was, the cup dropped before reaching stormy - and all of the hot chocolate would be poured on the fiery mage's clothing. "oh! i am so sorry. i didn't mean to drop it."

The game was unbalanced, so while it didn't make sense for the dying players to net experience, it did.[break][break]

So Stormy shrugs when Kat agrees with her, because what else is there to respond with? She was right, and it had been confirmed.[break][break]

"Sure, but I didn't take you for the spiteful type. The whole point of the game is to gain experience - and killing other players is the ideal way to do it."[break][break]

What comes next is entirely unexpected and surprising. Stormy smiles up at the girl - genuinely, and is met with hot chocolate spilled all over the front of her skirts. She stands up abruptly, gasping, chocolate trails leaving tracks down her face and sticking to her virtual hair.[break][break]

"You're gonna be sorry. Who's the sore loser now, huh?"[break][break]

She scowls, wiping perfectly good hot chocolate off of her breast.[break][break]

"What a waste of your MCs, stupid girl."

katherine appeared to be bewildered. "no, you have a mistake. this was an accident. i swear!" something about kat's tone was sure to convince stormy that she was indeed still lying. "why would i ever do that on purpose? i mean... spilling hot chocolate on some cheap gear?" she passed another glance at stormy's avatar, as if just to check her gear another time. yep. definitely cheap and tacky. "i meant to share some of the hot chocolate with you. i swear. just that and nothing more."

"no hard feelings, right?" she repeats what stormy told her just moments ago. "don't be so dramatic. accidents happen." kat moved back some, reclaiming her seat on the ground next to the campfire. "but i am glad we met. it was important for me to set things straight and all."

Stormy frowns up at her, standing up to her full height and knocking her shoulder against Kat's aggressively as she got out of her way and closer to the fire. What a pain.[break][break]

"This 'cheap gear' kept me alive a lot longer than yours."[break][break]

She flicks hot chocolate into the fire, dampening it for a moment before it roars back to life. With a sigh, she listens to the girl prattle on, making it even more evident that she was exactly the type of player she insisted her killer had been.[break][break]

"Sure, yeah. Don't worry, love, you'll get what's comin' to ya. I'm far from the meanest player on this server, trust me."

she clicked on the emote tab in her game, causing her avatar to cry dramatically. until katherine decided to drop the act, that is. "give me a break. you got lucky and fought me when i had little hp left. that's it. if you think that is threatening, then you're clearly still new to this game." their shoulders bumped against each other's, but kat stood firmly in her place. if only due to the fact that both her ego and stormy's were on display. one could feel the tension in the air, and there's no doubt that if this was a PK-enabled zone... they would've been halfway into a fight already.

"but yeah! i'm looking forward to see you putting your MCs where your mouth is, weather girl." and speaking of weather, the temperature where they camped drops low as magic spreads from katherine's avatar towards the fire, extinguishing it entirely. she was certainly trying to make a point. with her attunement to ice and stormy's affinity to fire.

however, without so much of another word, kat turned to leave. if stormy's volume settings ingame were high, then she'd more than likely be able to hear the other mage mutter "bitch." under her breath.
