Selena left a message on Alexei’s tech before reaching to her pair of VR googles. The ton of paperworks already piled by her desk after weeks of ignoring to buy some more time upgrading her video game character.

She logs in to her account, waits for the menu to open, and transports herself into the a place hardly unknown to her. Nixtorm. She used to solo train here to practice using Inferno, her only fire-type move.

‘Im already here. Where r u?’

She hits another, this time, on the messenger of the VR game. If Alexei still won’t appear for the next couple of minutes, she will just have the loots all for herself.

Unlike his companion for the afternoon, he had been kept busy with real-life obligations—mostly surrounding the Fortree Rescue and Treatment Sanctuary getting a new shipment of equipment that he had to oversee and actually teach the newer volunteers how to use. Whoops!

He didn’t notice that he was late for the in-game appointment that he had made with another player—seeing as Florian was busy at the moment—until he took a surreptitious glance at his watch.

Ah, shit! He thought, quickly wrapping up the training session and rushing off towards his apartment at the back of the sprawling complex. Shit, shit, shit I’m late! He continued to panic in the back of his mind as he quickly downed a sandwich before slipping the virtual reality headgear on.

Immediately spawning near Valora, he quickly punched the in-game map open and saw that there were messages already waiting for him! Crap!

‘Sorry I’m late! Wait for me!’ he replied to the messages frantically as he made haste across the kingdom before finally arriving at Nixtorm. Gee, the weather was just as cold as it was the last time he was here. Go figure. Finally arriving at the designated meeting spot, he bent over double to catch his breath.

“S-sorry,” he said at last. “Had something to deal with in Fortree,” he apologized, bowing again and sending an apologetic emoji to the other Mage.

“Shall—shall we go?”

Selena is easily forgiving so she did not mind Alexei being late when he apologized the first time. And the second time. But by the third time he sends an emoji, the witch waves the floating graphics, hits the gym leader lightly with the flat-side of her rapier, and yells, “It’s fine! Let’s just get with it.”

She does not mind him being late at all. Selena knows how his job could take so much of his real-world time and she can spare him a few more minutes. The witch is just lucky that her time is more flexible and more forgiving.

“So what’s the deal anyway? Did the new supplies came? Dang, Alexei! I wished you told me that sooner!”

Selena is actually joking. She might have a fascination towards flying types, but she’s afraid of heights. Selena wishes he knows that too. After all, he managed to convince her to take the flying challenge instead.

The nixtorm fields is unusually colder today, but it just means there are more creatures waiting on their way. The pair of smoochums do not disappoint.

Selena points her emerald-tipped rapier to the creature, clicks the controller button in real-life, and sends a blazing INFERNO to the poor blond baby pokémon. “I’ve just finished my paperworks anyway. I could use the time helping you if you don’t mind. Lilycove’s just a few miles away.”

SELENA uses INFERNO.

Of course, he doesn’t realize that his over-apologizing is going to get him bapped with his companion’s rapier. Well, well.

“Oh, new weapon?” he inquired, shuffling through his own robes and pulling out a different-looking tome. “Got lucky and found a Dragonite mini-boss. So I have a new spell and it’s very handy,” he added with a chuckle, before nodding at her inquiry.

“More like, we got a new shipment in and then I had to teach the staff how to handle it without them breaking it. You know how overenthusiastic they can get at times. It’s insane,” he continued with a sigh, finding the earmarked page before reading over the new spell that he had added to his repertoire.

Just as he was about to comment, a pair of… oh, hell no.

“Seriously?” he said as he caught sight of the walking pair of lips. “Hell no, you’re not kissing me!” he yelped, quickly kicking up not one, but what he guessed were two pebbles on the ground before sending it right at the other Pokémon. Both pebbles caught flame mid-flight, eventually becoming two Pyro Ball attacks that struck the little Smoochum in succession.

“I don’t want to be kissed by those,” he ended with a shudder.
