[attr="class","adrianwtw"]He often wonders what the consequences of their actions will manifest as, while counting down the days that manage to bear a semblance of normalcy following Rocket's raid on the Tree of Life. Adrian takes to the mountain's summit seeking answers, but finds only silence, and little else.[break][break]

Howitzer's return to his side is the only solace the world affords him, and he is constantly addled with concerns over the circumstances of her return and the compounding nature of cause and effect rippling across time and space. This will not be the last time he must fight to secure her, he knows this in his heart, but he cannot accept it.[break][break]

Answers. Always, he seeks them, elusive as they may be.[break][break]

One day they find him, as evening becomes twilight.[break][break]

Yveltal rises from its stygian vessel like a blighted seed that leaves the earth marred and deconsecrated where it touches. Howitzer does not stir as it drifts out of consciousness, but Adrian is able to rise, and seek the counsel of his patron. Taking those few brave steps closer to death's apparition, he calls out through the macabre.[break][break]

Should I be concerned about the strange pokemon being bred across Hoenn? No small number of times have you explained at length the need for balance, so I can only help but wonder: Can any of this bode well? ...Or will you once again ask me to kill?[break][break]

Wings all scab and sinew unfurl, revealing deep veins that pulsate with something not alive or dead, which encroach upon him on both sides while the creature known as Yveltal draws closer. Eyes like azure hang over him, passing through him and a thousand yards beyond, and yet they see nothing of the visceral world around it. Its eyes are fixed on something beyond them, murky and obscured like the image in a crystal ball. It does not divulge him with an answer, only a distant, implacable stare.[break][break]

Silence falls like a knife through the rising tension as Adrian grows increasingly irate, before the great creature before him deigns to answer in what ways it deems appropriate. But even so his relief would not be forthcoming as it spoke of what troubles it would.[break][break]

Strange that you should shy away from a talent you once embraced so willingly, Executioner. Though perhaps your disinclination is owed entirely to the worldly consequences of our work, and not your appetite for it... It chitters with what may be laughter.[break][break]

It does not linger overly on these musings, simply making mockery of Adrian's inner turmoil, and perhaps bringing in to question his appointment. But such decisions and their rescinding are not what concerns this mountain's keeper.[break][break]

You are most wise to ere on the side of caution with these ill-gotten gains. They are not entirely different from the abominations conceived by Team Rocket, and yet... I believe they are simply a sign. We are arriving at a juncture that neither I, nor any other can clearly see. But press on we must.[break][break]

Yveltal turns away from Adrian, casting a pensive glare across all of creation, feeling a deep and visceral dread at the thought of losing its charge. It would be a sign of failure on its part, if the notion of oblivion did not already disturb this seemingly amortal being's temperament.[break][break]

Every aspect of our world plays a vital role in its natural progression... Perhaps these—THINGS—are not the embodiment of corruption and malice as their closest relations have proven to be. Mayhap they are a manifestation of will, or simply a result of tampering with the natural order... But I have confidence that they will provide a vital function in the days to come... And after that...[break][break]

Yveltal would not suffer their blight anymore, though it fervently believed that such matters would simply resolve themselves. Its perfect world needn't be imperiled.[break][break][break]

Life... finds a way.

He runs his fingers through Howitzer's dense coat as the night breeze rolled over them in brisk waves. Where once she was apprehensive, she shows a measure of trust and improvement, though still he wonders if it will ever be the same between them. This he desperately wishes to be.[break][break]

She whines as a star passes overhead, her tail jerking suddenly before going still again, and he wondered if she was thinking the same thing. If only it never happened to begin with. One might say it was pure fantasy, but what much of Hoenn endured of late was steeped in the incredulous and far-fetched. And yet even in these times, miracles can often fall short. They can only carry on.[break][break]

Yveltal's avatar would hear an eerie howling on the wind as it picked up, tugging at his loose bangs and sending a shiver down him that caused him to stir. Howitzer rose as well, perhaps expecting to face some culprit, and yet what they saw... It must have been the work of some illusion.[break][break]

But he swore to have seen her; a pallid spirit flowing in the wind like gossamer, an ethereal reduction of herself.[break][break]

He wouldn't give up on that dream they once shared.

There are signs that not all can see. Whispers that not all would hear. Images of a dying world, flickering in the pyre. But there are those watchers who listen and wait, diligent in their vigil. Honorbound to see their great work carried out, they are beholden to no one but themselves, pursuant only of their own greater agenda. Fabled legends...[break][break]

Something stirs in the waking world that rouses the unsightly drake from its stupor, causing it to flee its post with wild abandon. Its sole keeper would be none the wiser to its plight as it rocketed skyward, doom-driven and desperate. A lamenting cry rings out aross the Hoennian night sky, heralding the nightborne's emergence.[break][break]

And what should it find there except the greatest horror visited upon the land; the blight of undeath taken hold.[break][break]

Souls languish, inextricably bound in their mortal coil. The warden would see things made right, only these are unprecedented times, and unexpected measures. Death comes for them in the form of a merciful hand, guiding them to the place where they might find some modicum of comfort to forestall their fearmongering and doomsaying...[break][break]

Wicked wings howl through the night as lost spirits gather at the summit, sitting just before the doors of death, awaiting their dark lord's providence. The creature wraps them in its veil, shrouding them from the pains of their reality, until such a time as a miracle can be birthed upon their bleak crisis and their suffering promptly amended.[break][break]

Until such a time, it recedes to its place of power, its physical vessel dormant while it gathers what strength is left to it in preparation for what may be their final hour...

Adrian awakes with a start, the veneer of sweat clinging to the clammy, pale skin of his brow. Visions of terror wrought upon him, machinations of a mind addled by anxieties. He stumbles to the washroom, running water down the faucet before splashing himself awake. It hadn't happened yet. There was still time to dare hope...[break][break]

But try as he might, Adrian cannot escape the feeling something has gone very, terribly wrong.

The summit has been lost to him. As an unseasonal wind places a chill over him, Adrian strikes the flint of his lighter, needily dragging at the butt of a cigarette. Though it was a setback, the timing was... auspicious.[break][break]

Somewhere up there, Howitzer had returned.[break][break]

And for all the worry and implications that left him, finding himself in such a prickly situation... There was reason to be merry this Christmas. Stamping out the half-finished cig, he takes his leave before the frost can settle. Welcome home, girl.[break][break] Merry Christmas.

There was a time he would've felt to belong on this mountain, at this place. Now he may deign to call himself welcome, if only that. Winds drag at his features as if to pull his attention elsewhere, but it is a passing sensation—and the wind dies down just as suddenly.[break][break]

All was still before him. A single erected headstone, somehow doubly imposing.[break][break]

Adrian grasps at the only keepsake—a darling jewel tethering him to Rowan Wrynn—that he has been allowed to keep. It fills the vacuum of heartbreak twice endured, yet still he is once again brought to his foundations. To that image of himself he wishes were true to life, to the question of whether he can ever ascertain it in his own lifetime.[break][break]

The ring slides off his finger, rolled over deft fingers as he considers the weight of it all. A streak of stoicism is left in shambles as he makes every consideration on the subject—the calescent path of a single drop streaking down his cheekbone...[break][break]

It would be better for others, perhaps, if he just... stopped. Stopped interfering in worldly affairs, and intervening with his own brand of righteous indignation. If he would just... stop. Maybe none of this would have happened the way it had.[break][break]

But he is reminded of the many nameless, faceless victims of the world's greatest antagonizing forces. These incidents cry out to him and attest, perhaps, that even indifference and resignation are never enough. Yet still the garrote wire snakes its way ever more snug against his neck, leaden with the accountability that should rightly fall upon him...[break][break]

...The ring glides back over his finger once more.
