He would've brought along his usual pokemon, but also a Teddiursa for handling any sticky situations. "Been alright. Was hunting down Unown for awhile." Adrian wasn't going to brag to any and everyone, especially League personnel, about his exploits.[break][break]

He trusted Derek, but faith in others was often misplaced. He'd been meaning to talk to them about the events of the Regirock Raid back then, but something had caused him to stay his tongue. Right now, they were here for business.[break][break]

"Still on the Unown grind? Geez." Nothing new under the sun, or so it seemed.

"We're here to trap some bug pokemon with honey. They've been growing in numbers, and thus getting more bold as the encroach on Petalburg." Not many people enjoyed the sound of Beedrill so close to home. And not everyone had pokemon capable of defending them, either.

"Well, trapping them isn't so much the agenda as it is slathering enough honey in here to keep them preoccupied. But the rangers gave me a few pokeballs for a catch-and-release. So if I find any Beedrill, they're getting relocated." Kicking one of the cans next to him that had a holster and brush built into the side, Derek picked up another next to it and began moving along the path. "Oh yeah, this might be common sense, but...don't slather honey close to the path."

Instead they would be heading to the far side of the woods, zig-zagging their way to the other side. "I marked some of the trees near the path with orange tape, so hopefully that helps." And with that said, Derek began slathering one of the trees with a bunch of honey, noticing it seemed to have an extremely pungent fragrance compared to normal honey.

Either way, he'd release a Teddiursa with the HONEY GATHER ability to help them replenish lost stores of the rich, golden ichor that was the core of their strategy.[break][break]

It took them awhile to search deeper into the woods, and one noticed how the ambiance of the nearby town was drowned out by the gurgle of a brook and the natural wildlife all around them. Leaves rustled in the spring breeze while wintered branches groaned with the strain. One good storm would knock some of these over, he wagered; Hoenn's flora weren't used to weathering the winter.[break][break]

"We should keep an eye out for any signs of a distortion, just in case." They were proving to be more troubling than they were worth, in his eyes. What rewards could be reaped often forced a counterbalance of discord sowed across the region. Strange, unnatural pokemon forcing their way into an ecosystem that was alien to them.[break][break]

Adrian recollects his time spent with Angelo, when they encountered what he'd believed to be a strange aberration of an Ursaring. Honey would be just the thing to lure it here, and he didn't particularly desire that.

"Oh, hey Smokey!" Derek calls out to a wild Ursaring that seems to be drawing closer to them. It's a bear he's seen around many times, able to be spotted by the tufts of fur around it's neck and shoulders. It normally didn't get this close, but seeing as they were lathering everything up with honey, the scent must've drawn him right to them...

"I forgot you'd smell this no matter where you were." This was the good stuff to an Ursaring, after all. As an offering, Derek moves forward slowly a couple paces and kneels. The pokemon observes him carefully, keen on securing the tasty treat for itself. After dumping a majority of the contents on the grass, Derek steps back and allows the Ursaring to advance on the offering unprovoked. It can't control itself while it enjoys the sweet honey.

Looking over to Adrian, the ranger makes a gesture with his head for them to get outta there. "He'll know there's more, so let's get going before he's done." A gradual walk brought them out of sight of the Ursaring, where Derek eventually picked up the pace to ensure it wouldn't be catching up to them too soon. He also stopped lathering the trees for a moment, as it would leave a trail right to them.

Unfortunately, that meant Smokey was probably licking up all the honey from before. Oh well. They still had enough to continue on the other side of the woods.

This would set them back if the Ursaring didn't contain its sweet tooth. After taking the hint from Derek, who seemed keen on not marking a trail straight back to them, they begin coating the trees with that signature, sappy syrup.[break][break]

"So, got any summer vacation time planned?" Pikachella was coming up soon, and there were a hundred other things to take a load off your shoulders in Hoenn alone. Then there were the myriad sights across the globe, if one had the mind to go visit them, so he was sure Derek would have something to mention to keep their minds stimulated. You only got so far slathering honey.[break][break]

"Or do you usually keep your nose to the grindstone?"

"Yeah. I also used to be the gym leader here in Petalburg, so..." This place had sentimental significance to him for many reasons. It also vaguely reminded him of home. Though before he could linger on such depressing, homesick thoughts, he looked over to Adrian after being posed a question.

"Vacation time? Hah. That's...that's funny." He could get it, sure. But those with seniority in the rangers usually got their bid over everyone else. And he could refuse to show, but that made him look bad. And considering everything...

"I had my fill of vacation back in Johto, so it's the grindstone for me. Why do you ask?" Slinging back his own curiosity, the two of them would soon hear the buzzing sounds of flying bug type pokemon headed towards them. Derek didn't see any nests on the ground, or up in the trees, so it seemed the wind finally carried the scent of honey.

For now, the only thing left to do was to see their mission through to completion. Not that he entirely understood why this wasn't just a PokeJob to begin with. Surely some Teddiursa could've handled this.[break][break]

His own Teddiursa brings up their rear as they carry on.[break][break]

"Have you heard anything involving... Was it Cheren?" Between brain fog and a lack of attentiveness, he blunders over her name, but he intended to say Katherine. Although he hasn't brought it up in some time, it's not something that slips out of mind so easily.

Since they were having a conversation before being so rudely interrupted, Derek releases his Sobble to deal with the bugs. The Combee and Beedrill seem to think Jonesy is a pushover, and readily advance into his water gun, which sends them splashing to the ground. A few spare pokeballs are used to gather them up for relocation, though that would be a job for someone else. They were just here to round them up.
