The Scorbunny needed some time to burn off its steam, and was dropped off at the Daycare out on Route 117. It had caused way more damage than normal, and while the crew over at Fortree was attempting to fix every single thing he had wrecked so far, and was therefore agreed to let the old Daycare couple try to straighten the wild child out.

At the same time, the Scorbunny was dropped off alongside an Egg in an incubator—hopefully the mysterious egg would be kept warm by the Fire-type’s feet, or something like that? Or maybe the touch of the elderly couple would help the damned thing hatch?

Alexei was at a loss on how to take care of the egg, honestly. Either way…

There was the Scorbunny, dropped off near where a Fletchling was guarding an egg as well. Were the owner of the Fletchling and Alexei thinking the same thing?

Either way, the Scorbunny approached the Fletchling and looked inquiringly at the egg it was tending.

“You too?” the Fire-type asked the Fletchling, gesturing to the egg it was tending to. “Looks like I’m not the only one,” he added with a bit of a chuckle. “Honestly, this egg should hatch already,” he continued before giving the egg that had been dropped off along with him a hearty poke.

The Scorbunny wasn’t sure, but the way that the Fletchling spoke reminded him of one of those weird trilogy movies that one of his human companion’s ‘employees’ (was it that word? He wasn’t sure) loved watching over and over again.

To be fair, the Scorbunny found this very amusing and chuckled as he watched the Fletchling literally going bananas while trying to make the egg hatch as quickly as possible. Clearly there was another agenda at work here and he wanted to know what it was.

“To be fair, my human companion hasn’t given me a name yet—but I’m hoping that he would soon. I think he takes his time with naming all the other Pokémon he has. Maybe he does consider if the name would fit our personalities,” the Scorbunny mused, poking the egg that he had been dropped off with and wondering if whatever was inside was still even alive.

It had been too long, to be fair, but the Egg had been kept inside that weird glass structure… Incubator? He didn’t know.

“Why were you named Zippo? Can… can I ask why that name?” the Fire-type inquired, hoping that the question wasn’t too invasive.

“It’s a very nice name,” the Scorbunny nodded as the Fletchling showed off its wing span. For now, they were really small—but he knew that someday, this little Fletchling in front of him would become something to be feared and respected.

All it would take would be just a matter of time, honestly.

“Honestly, what is taking this egg so long to hatch?! I want to kick it, but I’m pretty sure that my human companion wouldn’t want that,” the Fire-type huffed, sighing softly before nudging the egg he was supposed to be watching over with a paw of his.

“Oi, come on, wake up already and stop giving my companion endless nightmares when he sleeps,” the Scorbunny complained. Turning to the Fletchling, he’s sure he owed the other an explanation as to why he mentioned that.

“Well, see, it’s been… a while… since he got this egg. And now he remembered that he has it, and wants this to hatch into something… wonderful. Whatever it is, I hope it’s not like one of the troublemakers I’ve seen hanging around him… blue, squishy, really touchy… and a Water-type. Bleh,” the Fire-type continued, his face contorting into one of disgust.

Water and he didn’t go well together.

“They’re bad. Some of the blue ones aren’t Water-types… but most of them are, so I stay away from them as much as possible,” the Scorbunny nodded quietly. He could understand the Fletchling’s sentiments about water and fire not going so well together.

Observing what the Flying-type was up to, the Scorbunny turned to the egg that he had been dropped off with, before watching the Fletchling’s actions curiously.

“I could try that,” he conceded, before turning to his own egg companion before tapping on the sides. Tap, tap, tap… he was wondering what the hell was inside. Listening intently, the Scorbunny continued to walk around the egg, tapping at odd, random spots while hoping there was something… or someone, who would respond.

“Yours answered? Lucky!” the Scorbunny exclaimed. “This one doesn’t seem to be answering,” he added with a frown. He wondered if the little creature inside the egg was just sleeping or just enjoying its time before breaking out into the crazy, wild world.

The Scorbunny could only sigh—what was wrong with this egg, anyway? Why was it so silent?

He was more than a little envious of Zippo, and how the Flying-type had literally pecked a hole through the shell in order to see what was coming out of said egg! All he could do was warm it… with his feet.

“Well then… time to try something drastic…” the Fire-type muttered as it then began to pace around and around the egg, the temperature from its feet rising higher and higher. He could only guess if one side of the egg he was supposed to be keeping an eye on would feel the discomfort, but after a while—

He heard something tip, tip, tapping from the inside of the egg as well. Or was he hearing things? He then listened again, tip, tip, tapping—

And whatever was inside answered with the same tapping code!

“Oh! Oh! Mine is finally talking!” the Scorbunny exclaimed, hopping around for joy.

Oh, what an absolute doofus the Fire-type was.
