An Infernape puffs out his chest as he shifts his weight, fully prepared to throw down with whoever Lance had in store.

oh look he's back on route 112 again. he stands in the thick of the soot-covered grass and calls out his choice for the battle. the gothorita bounces out of her pokeball and is immediately disgusted by her surroundings. but not as much as she's digusted by the infernape.

"good luck."

the words leave him out of habit. ida's CALM MIND is what prepares her for a FUTURE SIGHT. the attack doesn't hit just yet but it will. the infernape just won't know when.

The Infernape leaps forward, eager to lay hands on the smug little Gothitelle. She might actually be taller than him.[break][break]

But he chatters anyway, TAUNTING the Gothitelle into doing something other than looking miserable.[break][break]

Little does he know, he's about to get absolutely gobsmacked into the ground in a second.[break][break]

"Good luck, he says. Tsk. Flame wheel!"[break][break]

Like a strange monkey-shaped beyblade, Infernape launches forward in a violent swirl of flame. If it made contact, it would automatically BURN.

ida takes the brunt of the FLAME WHEEL and the attack leaves her dress burning. she pats at it but it does little to put out the fires. if it wasn't for the CALM MIND earlier she would have been outraged.

actually, she still is. a PSYCHIC wraps around the infernape and tosses him back into the ground where it belongs.

All of a sudden, his feet don't touch the ground and he's flailing, tail working overtime to try and correct his body - but he's floating, not falling.[break][break]

Until he's eating the dirt and the PSYCHIC slams him across the pebbly ground. He spits a rock, maybe a tooth, before getting back to his feet and brushing dirt off of his chest.[break][break]

"Walk it off, Infernape, you've got this."[break][break]

The Pokemon cracks his neck, puffing smoke.[break][break]

And then he barrels forward to connect with a CLOSE COMBAT.

[attr="class","lancepost"]one of the advantages of being small is the ability to duck and weave to avoid attacks. ida does just that as the infernape closes the distance for a CLOSE COMBAT. she simply moves in between its legs and brings her hand to touch its leg before another PSYCHIC wraps around it. the infernape gets flung upwards this time. perhaps the FRAME ADVANTAGE comes into play.

"your infernape is getting bullied."

Stormy bites her tongue as she watches the Infernape overshoot. His right hook passes over the Gothitelle and the Pokemon slips between his legs, coming out the other side and effectively throwing him into the air without effort.[break][break]

"This is just a warm up."[break][break]

But to be honest, Stormy's handle on fighting-type Pokemon was piss poor, she preferred the long-range combat.[break][break]

"Back off, Infernape."[break][break]

And so he does, as soon as he catches the wind knocked out of his lungs. He grabs dirt as he gets back to his feet, wiping his mouth. And then he belches a column of FLAMETHROWER across the field.

[attr="class","lancepost"]the FLAMETHROWER scorches across the battlefield and it's a miracle the soot-covered grass doesn't catch on fire. it's only ida that does and she grimaces through the pain. her dress is burned and she hates it. she hates this battle. she hates this infernape.

not yet.

this PSYCHIC is different in the way that it simply pushes the infernape into the ground.

The TAUNT wears off and Infernape is too caught up with celebrating his successful FLAMETHROWER to reapply it. [break][break]

Stormy is confident now, predicting her win. Infernape has the upper hand from a distance now - probably. Or were fighting-types supposed to be up close? Damn if she knew, Infernape had been sorely lacking in the CLOSE COMBAT area.[break][break]

But all of a sudden, Infernape is flattened to the ground like a glorified pancake and he's screaming with rage, tail lashing like a land snake. [break][break]

the infernape had done them a favor when it backed off earlier. long rage battles work in their favor and that much becomes evident when the FUTURE SIGHT finally happens.

a sharp ringing pierces into its mind, damaging in nature, before a PSYCHIC freezes all of its limbs. with the fire-type unable to move, there's nothing to avoid the PSYCHOCK that comes flying its way.
