After the attack on the Team Rocket cruise ship, some revenge was in order. They were a small team. But, based on their credentials and previous assignment history, the masked prince had no doubt they could put an end to this ragtag group of sea thieves hiding out in Medusa's Cove. They had managed to sneak towards the entrance successfully, disabling the flimsy security outside with ease. One of his Dragalge, Serqet, managed to slip into the underground water tunnels.

Inside the watery, labyrinth-like cove, however, an Arbok with a constant Glare patrolled the area. Though constant use of this ability typically could render an Arbok blind, this one seemed immune to such limitations. How strange. Remiel was quick to take cover behind an outcrop of rock in the cove. He radioed to his partners with a whisper.

"This is Crown-1. Proceed with caution. There's an Arbok with Glare patrolling the area. Stay out of its sight. Over."

Gavin was done with pirates. His shoulder was still recovering from the injury he'd sustained returning from Galar with Emma Wolfe; physical therapy would no doubt be needed to restore full function of movement to his right arm, so it was lucky that he was left-handed.[break][break]

Perhaps, then, he should have sat this one out. Merlino was a stubborn man, however, and had insisted on going.[break][break]

He had chosen to go the same route as Remiel's Dragalge, surfacing from one of the tunnels into a shadowy part of the cove. His injury had not been enough to stop him from taking the risk, having brought his Greninja along in case it was too much for him. Receiving the radio transmission, Gavin ensures that he is alone before removing the breathing apparatus and responding:[break][break]

"This is Blackbird; I see the Arbok." It slithers across the ground at a safe distance, fortunately facing the other way. "I've surfaced somewhere inside; no sign of our marks yet. Over."[break][break]

Greninja slips from the water like a shadow, scuttling up the wall and out of sight.

Eva peered beyond the rock formation she hid behind, listening to the communications being sent out by her two partners and looking about for the Arbok.

It would come back to be quite the pain for them later if not dealt with but its constant glare would be a problem, or at least it would be for most people.

”Blackbird, Crown-1, I see the Arbok. Proceeding to remove it from play, Pandora out.” By her side, floating a few feet of the ground, was her Orbeetle and the Pokémon would have an important part to play in removing the Arbok.

”Magic Coat and fly into our friend’s path.” At its trainer’s request the Orbeetle used MAGIC COAT and flew out of their hiding spot and quickly into the path of the Arbok’s.

Its GLARE would not have any effect on the Orbeetle and would be instead reflected onto it, paralyzing the snake instead of the beetle.

Things felt a lot more certain with Gavin and Eva along for the ride. The manner in which they communicated and carried themselves spoke volumes to their professionalism. He knew that, despite being outnumbered, the adversaries they were about to face stood very little chance against the trio. So, when the female of their group sent her Orbeetle to intercept the Arbok's Glare, Remiel was sure jump in and assist the effort as well.

Just as the Arbok recoiled and seethed at the crafty tactic, he emerged slightly from his cover to summon his Dragalge from its depths. "Serqet, Hydro Pump!" He ordered, prompting the draconic seahorse to pop its head out from the deep depths of the cove's stream. Caught off guard by the Magic Coat and the Hydro Pump that struck it from its side, the Arbok was blasted against the cavern wall and rendered unconscious. Or, at the very least, completely immobile.

Remiel reached up to speak through his mic. "Target has been neutralized. Proceeding inward to find the main squad, over." Then, with a gesture, sent Serqet back into the depths to hide until she was called again.

As Gavin watches, Arbok crumples.[break][break]

Though he'd stopped calling her 'ma'am' as soon as he'd stopped reporting to Eva as his boss, his respect for the woman remained. She was tough, capable.[break][break]

Remiel polishes off the paralyzed snake, and Gavin grins to himself, speaks over the comms: "Nice work. Proceeding further in, over."[break][break]

Greninja is the one to dictate Gavin's path, scuttling silently along the ceiling and signalling the safest route. Gavin's flippers are removed and stowed on his person, leaving his footsteps soft against the stone.[break][break]

His first target turns out to be a smoker — the acrid stench of smoke hits before the man himself is sighted, and an old itch gets deep under the Rocket's skin. He grits his teeth as he notes the single pokeball at the man's belt and the creature it belonged to. A Mightyena, curled at its masters feet, because it couldn't be something simple and weak like a wingull, now could it?[break][break]

The hulking silhouette of Gavin's Golisopod is far less stealthy than Greninja. It makes one hell of a FIRST IMPRESSION, dispatching the mutt in a single strike as the Greninja drops from the ceiling onto the trainer.[break][break]

The man slumps, unconscious, and Gavin lifts Mightyena's pokeball from his belt.[break][break]

"Target eliminated, over."[break][break]

There were more, of course, but this slow and steady approach was working wonders.

Unlike her compatriots Eva did not continue through the cove in a stealthy manner. Instead, she slowly made her way in a casual walk as she released more of her Pokémon to escort her through. Her Ariados and Malamar would now move with her as they ventured deeper into the pirate base.

The arachnid Pokémon scuttled off, taking to the walls of the cove and heading forward. Eva had given the Pokémon the instruction of alerting them when it found someone and to dispose of them if it could. Gavin had already encountered at least one pirate so they knew they were home.

She kept an eye on her Ariados as it crawled across the ceiling, and when it came to a spot that meant it had found someone. The bug Pokémon then looked to its master, who was about to turn the corner where whoever was there was, awaiting some sort of signal as to whether or not it could attack.

She nodded, giving the go-ahead to her Pokémon which then fired a stream of webs from above down at whatever poor soul was below. When she turned the corner a couple of pirates were caught in the webbing, struggling to move. ”Hypnosis.” Her Malamar used its psychic powers to put the two pirates asleep.

”Two more down, over.”

Remiel followed Eva's lead as Gavin dispatched one of the pirates ahead. Though, when the main corridor they followed split into a fork, the Galarian opted to take the opposite route to cover all their exits. Deciding that the streams below were important to cover as well, he reached for another luxury ball clipped to his belt and released a beautiful Primarina. She took to the stream immediately, then poked her head out from its surface as she gazed adoringly up at her master.

"Cover the eastern tunnels, Maria. In fact..." He pauses to look at the unexplored tunnel system ahead of him. There was likely a large cavern room at the end of it housing their base of operations. And it was unlikely that they weren't already aware of their presence. So they might as well make an entrance, right?

"Icy Wind."

After all: revenge is a dish best served cold.

Most accustomed to working alone or, in recent times, with Emma, even Gavin can admit that there is something to be said for the efficiency of a unified team. Like they're acting on a stage, each actor has their role to fill and does it well.[break][break]

Red light swallows the hulking figure of his Golisopod, and Greninja vanishes once more into shadow.[break][break]

Gavin's part in this drama is simple: secure the exits, and ensure no one escapes. To that end, two more of the Pokemon he'd chosen for the operation are released from containment. As Aggron turns smaller passages into ROCKY TOMBS for those unfortunate enough to be trapped inside, Skarmory layers the shoreline with deadly SPIKES.[break][break]

Gavin stands half in shadow, watches his Pokemon work with a hand on the comms.[break][break]

"Escape routes blocked," he reports. Only when the deed was done and their prize secured would anyone be leaving; it wouldn't be the pirates. "Go wild. Over."

Gavin’s words were all Eva needed to hear to finally let loose and raze this place to the ground. She had gone down a different path in the fork than the others, heading for what she would assume to be the gathering place for all of these pirates.

She released her Volcarona and Hydreigon, ready to let both Pokémon loose as soon as they got to a clearing. And that’s exactly what she did, ordering her two Pokémon to attack indiscriminately and with prejudice.

Her Volcarona sent torrents of flames from her body towards the pirates while her Hydreigon laid waste to whatever was left through dragon pulses.

”Begun cleaning up house.” There would be more to deal with than just these goons. Her other Pokémon beside her watched for any stranglers.

Chilled to the bone by the Icy Wind, the pirates that had convened deeper in the cavern soon emerged in a tizzy as they searched for the intruder that had caused it. This, of course, led them directly into Gavin's trap. Then, subsequently, the wrath of Eva's pokémon as they attacked.

Remiel couldn't let them have all the fun. So, with a sharp whistle, he summoned both his pokémon to join in as the few pirates that remained took cover and summoned their own pokémon. "Maria, Aqua Jet. Serqet, Dragon Pulse." He commanded, watching as the first of them tackled down a Mightyena. The Dragalge, in the meantime, blasted back a mangy-looking Floatzel that attempt to ambush the Primarina afterwards.

Though the great majority of the crewmen had been incapacitated, however, their captain remained. And he emerged last from the cold depths of the cavern with a Hydreigon at his back.

Gavin watches impassively as the pirates scramble from their hiding places and right into the trap. He feels no sympathy for them as they crumble beneath the combined might of the Rocket agents; Gavin's shoulder still throbs painfully from the exertion of the swim. They'd have killed him if they could. He's here to return the favour.[break][break]

It didn't matter that these pirates were not the ones who'd attacked the ferry. It only mattered that they were pirates at all.

A Hydreigon floats ominously behind their captain. Gavin takes Golisopod's ball and pitches it across the cove, red light bursting to reveal the chittering creature.[break][break]

"Say hello for me!" Gavin sneers.[break][break]

Golisopod understands. It makes a devastating FIRST IMPRESSION on the Hydreigon by leaping at it, sailing over the captain and scoring massive claws across the dragon's flank. A roar of pain shakes the ground beneath.

Following Gavin's attack, Remiel was quick to prompt his own pokémon into action. "Serqet, Poison Tail! Maria, Sparkling Aria!" He commanded, watching as the Dragalge swept away the remaining grunts with a wide swipe of its POISON TAIL. Only moments before the Primarina sung her SPARKLING ARIA, filling the cavern with the sound of sweet song that manifested in the air as glittering sparkles.

Unfortunately for the Hydreigon, these seemingly harmless sparkles would soon prove to be painful as the beast was suddenly struck with convulsions. All of its heads snarled and cried out as it dropped to the floor and squirmed. This, of course, left the pirate captain unguarded. Which, at the end of the day, meant they had successfully executed their mission.

While Gavin and Remiel continued their attacks on the pirates Eva decided to wander about the cave, something had caught her eye. A path that led to a door that looked rather locked up well, it would be hard for a person to get in but for one of her Pokémon?

This was child play; all they had to do was blast through it.

And with a snap of her fingers, her Pokémon did just that, revealing a room that held treasures. Treasures that Eva was not bothered with at all.

”I guess that’s where they were keeping their bounties. Feel free to grab whatever; nothing in there I really care about.” She’d say to the group when she got back to them.

His shoulder aches from the swim, from the exertion, but there's a wry smirk playing the edge of his lips. Revenge was satisfaction enough.
