stormy soon returns with snacks in the form of a vegetable tray and both lance and booli look at it in confusion. is this her idea of a snack? the two share a little look before lance returns to grilling and booli returns to eating.[break][break]

"that's pretty funny. you get it, booli? bearing, like a bear. like you."[break][break]

booli stares in further confusion and though he doesn't quite understand the play on words, he still decides to be upset anyways. he furrows his eyebrows and turns away, pouting as he finishes his strip of bacon. lance extends him another; the peace offer continues.[break][break]

"give me just a few more minutes."[break][break]

lance reaches up for the lid and pulls it down to cover the entire grill. the meat continues to cook and smoke, flavors enriching as time passes. he only opens it for a second for another strip of bacon, this time eating it himself as he turns to stormy.

The look on both of their faces at the sight of her wonderful veggie tray makes her hesitate and frown. She glances from the fresh-cut peppers up to the unimpressed look on Lance's face.[break][break]

"The look on your face must be the reason some of your peppers were soft."[break][break]

She scoffs, but sets the tray down on a nearby table and swipes it through the dressing she'd found. It makes a satisfying crunch and she watches him idly as he closes up the grill to let it smoke some more.[break][break]

Her expression is thoughtful when he turns to face her, nibbling at a strip of bacon he had squirreled away for himself. She offers a raised eyebrow in return before approaching.[break][break]

"Are you planning to share, or...?"

"i mean i'm barely home as is."[break][break]

cooking is something lance has not quite found the time to do, as usually evident by the lack of groceries in his fridge. the only reason it's stocked today is because he's forced to stay home to recover. he had been insistent on being able to do certain missions, but ultimately decided against it, understanding that he would only be a liability out there.[break][break]

stormy approaches, eyeing the bacon.[break][break]

"i think booli's more willing to share."[break][break]

booli is definitely not willing. the small fighting-type even turns his body away to not expose the bacon. lance smiles at this and takes another bite before extended the rest over to her.[break][break]

"only because i'm feeling nice."

Her teasing expression falters at the reminder - an oversight on her part. She finds herself glancing to the limp in his leg. He'd been careful to hide it but he was very clearly still hurting from his run-through with a harpoon.[break][break]

"I'm sorry."[break][break]

Stormy glances down to the Kubfu who is absolutely not interested in sharing his bacon with her. He physically turns around to avoid, pretending as if he isn't chewing on a piece. She smiles, though she had no intention of asking the little guy. In all honesty, she had been trying to sort of flirt.[break][break]

When she looks up, Lance is taking another bite only to give her the remaining piece - with a reminder that he's being generous because he's feeling nice. She moves to accept the gift, however, plucking it from his fingers to pop in her mouth. She sighs when it crunches. It's delicious.[break][break]

"Mmm... I love bacon."

lance abandons the grill to step over to the table. he picks up a bottle of beer and with a twist of the cap, opens it, handing it to stormy before reaching for another. he settles on the same wall as booli and goes as far as to lean his body against the small fighting-type, looking to annoy him a little. oddly enough, booli doesn't seem to mind the company.[break][break]

"i think i'm starting to not mind the heat," as crazy as it sounds. but it's true: even grilling out there on the patio in the middle of the day isn't as bad as it once would have been. he wonders if it's because he's growing used to the region or if it's something else entirely.[break][break]

lance makes sure to keep his injured leg fully extended out. moving it usually causes the muscles around the wound to flex, which only results in pain. if stormy had been observant she would have noticed how lance has been putting most of his weight on his good leg.[break][break]

"don't get me wrong, it's still hot as shit, but it's not too bad anymore."[break][break]

oops. he is quick to correct himself as his eyes shift to booli for a moment.[break][break]

"hot as crap."

A bottle is handed to her and she takes a sip, a warm smile on her face a stark contrast to the cold beer damp in her hand. She tilts her head as she watches the display of affection between man and beast. Clearly, she had been right on the mark with her gift-giving.[break][break]

But her eyes flick back to Lance's leg briefly and the way he leans heavily on his good one. She knows, she's been there, in his position. Even to this day her left leg boasts problems and stiffness in dull weather. [break][break]

"Oh? That's good, since you really can't escape it."[break][break]

There could be a double meaning behind her words, and Stormy's focused gaze could be an indicator of it. However, she makes no further comment other than a smirk.[break][break]

She chuckles at his slip of the tongue, a quick glance given to the cub. [break][break]

"You two are cute, I'm really glad you're getting along."[break][break]

Stormy takes another sip of her beer.

laughing, his gaze falls on her as he processes her words.[break][break]

where she prefers the subtle approach, his is blunt and to the point. he meets her smirk with one of his own before taking another sip of his beer. he really shouldn't be drinking while on medication but surely one drink can't hurt. the thought subsides as quickly as it appeared.[break][break]

lance smiles when she calls them cute. he raises a hand to pat the small fighting-type, ruffling the fur on his head. "me too." booli turns then to flash the quickest of smiles before returning to his bacon.[break][break]

not too long now until their food is ready. they just have to be a little more patient.

His response elicits a slow smile from her that broadens into a warm, embarrassed grin. She's blushing, genuinely moved by the boldness of his comment. Of course, she had been alluding to it and she had never been good at subtlety, but it was particularly relieving to see that they were on the same wavelength.[break][break]

The sweat of the beer bottle drips to the ground and she allows the lull in the conversation before Lance reaches over to ruffle Booli's fur and agree with her. [break][break]

However, patience is not a virtue that Stormy possesses, and she is not so subtle in her approach. She makes a miserable attempt to deflect her actual intent to just stay in his orbit and find an excuse to be too close by drawing a spear of red pepper from behind her back. [break][break]

"Pepper?"[break][break]

She's smiling.

Her extended arm offering the pepper is grabbed and she's pulled forward. It automatically results in a blush because there's something about him that she quite literally can't get enough of.[break][break]

But it's clear that the pepper will soon be forgotten if he didn't take it from her to begin with - and she's too lost in his eyes to remember.[break][break]

Instead, she slowly and deliberately leans up to close the distance between them.
