The desert really has a way of making one remain humble. It was supposed to be just a simple trip through, she even had goggles to protect her eyes from the brutal sandstorms that were known to ravage the area from time to time. However, what Ruby wasn't able to withstand was the brutal winds that came with it. She was a small girl, after all, and the winds were an absolute struggle to resist. So here she thought it might be a good idea to simply tough it out, hiding behind a rocky outcropping to keep some protection from the horrible winds.

It was several hours later when the storm had finally settled down. However, to add insult to injury, the heat had only gotten worse. It was positively sweltering. Ruby was shuffling through the desert, attempting to make her way through. Sweat dripped from her brow as she let out a heavy sigh. Opening up her backpack, she grabbed her water bottle. Drinking the very last drops, Ruby's sighed once more.

Just how much longer could she push through in this oppressive heat? She was certainly more used the colder weather back home, this was positively draining her every second she had to stay out here. Her eyes strained against the horizon, the heat practically visible in the dry summer air. People always talked about Hoenn being a tropical place, but this intense heat was ridiculous.

She'd had a big brain moment which required her to go out into the desert and test how long she could stand in the heat for. Turns out, all damn day.[break][break]

The sand was the problem. She was getting burns and scratches from the wind picking up during the sandstorm. Her skin remains virtually unfazed by the heat otherwise.[break][break]

She brushes the grit from her clothing and spits it out of her mouth, thoroughly displeased. Had there been a sandstorm scheduled for today? Because she was pretty sure the forecast had been clear.[break][break]

However, just ahead of her stood a young girl trudging through the sand. [break][break]

"Hello?"[break][break]

She glances over her shoulder as if wondering if perhaps someone else had said hello to her, as well. How long had she been out here?

What was this? Did she actually hear something or were her ears just playing tricks on her again? Ruby kept her arm over her eyes, trying to shield it from the sun. Luckily, the goggles meant her eyes were safe from the sand that occasionally whipped by even though the sandstorm had passed, but the sand all in her face was still increasingly annoying.

"H-hello?" Ruby called back, slowly turning around when she noticed something else moving in the distance. Was it an actual person or another mirage? It was hard to tell with the heat actively distorting alot of what was further away. Regardless, she slowly began to make her way towards the figure until it seemed to be a recognizable one.

Stormy Silph. She had only truly met her after completing her gym many weeks ago, but there was no way she could forget that face. She immediately gave her a smile, waving her arm excitedly. "H-hey! I didn't know anyone else was out here!" Despite her exhaustion and being rather dehydrated at the time, she pushed her way back through the sand to get closer so she didn't have to yell.

Of course, it was obvious that she wasn't in the best of shape. Sweat was absolutely pouring down her brow which she wiped away with her arm, only to nearly trip and almost fall into the sand. So smooth.

Something buzzes in her pocket, bringing her attention to the radio device. It was a surprise that it even had signal all the way out here, but she fumbles it for a moment. She's foggy in the mind but coherent enough to respond. Her thumb clicks the button to listen to the incoming message. They use her code name in reference to her situation and it's then that she remembers what it was she had been out here doing.[break][break]

Stormy had been sent out for a rescue mission. There had been cause for concern regarding an individual wandering the desert. They had sent a ranger out to scout out the area and locate the person. Turns out, Stormy probably needed rescuing herself.[break][break]

But she hesitates, shielding her face from the sun for a moment to get a better look. As Ruby nears, she is surprise to see the familiar face of the girl who had, in the last month or so, defeated her gym challenge. This certainly didn't seem the sort of setting she'd expect Ruby to be in.[break][break]

The girl calls out to her and Stormy makes her way forward, fishing for her water bottle in her backpack. It's lukewarm at best but still good enough to drink.[break][break]

"I got a call saying someone was wandering the desert like a lost Flaafy. That couldn't be you, could it? What are you doin' all the way out here, Ruby?"[break][break]

She offers the girl the water bottle, eyes narrowed and concerned as she looks her over for injury or signs of stress. When the girl stumbles forward, she opts to try and catch her.

Ruby suddenly smiled a bit wider as soon as Stormy spoke, especially as she recognized her, despite the intense sweat dripping down her brow. Almost as if she was revitalized a bit by the thought of someone out here coming to help her, Ruby was quick to push her way through the sand as fast as she could until finally standing in front of her would-be rescuer, or more accurately stumbling into her arms.

"Well, I'm not sun tanning, if that's what you were going to suggest." She chuckled quietly, only to clear her throat. It was extremely dry out here. She happily took the water bottle, drinking her fill. That absolutely hit the spot.

Pulling away from Stormy for just a bit, she fought to stand tall on her own two feet. Ruby wasn't too beaten up, asides from a few minor injuries and scratches from the sand during the sandstorm. With a few shaky breaths, Ruby finally begins to speak again. "I thought I was prepared to head through the desert, but these sandstorms are nothing like back home. Even if I could still see, I'm not exactly the heaviest person around, you know. I got blown around for a long time, couldn't even walk straight. Eventually, I just had to try and settle down behind some large rocks and hope it went away."

The woman's hand rests on Ruby's head for a moment during the embrace, lifting off only when the girl pulls away. [break][break]

"Where were you going? I'm sure there are taxi's or vehicles to travel the desert with. What are you doing all the way out here?"
