She leads him with the first step, leaving him to trail after her, always a step behind, void of both rhythm or poise. Dancing is mere repetition to him, executed on autopilot lest he end up tripping over himself. Mimicking her allows him to focus on the conversation at hand, bring about his brutal honesty.

Stormy's own movements are tense as a result of Fernando's stiffness. Although their awkward dance is... nice, to some extent, she subtly works at loosening him up, letting her own movements become more fluid. Her hands guide him as best they can and as much as he would allow her, and her expression softens. Perhaps she is relieved, that even Fernando had felt something similar to what she felt now.[break][break]

"And what is going through your mind now?"[break][break]

She draws closer, averting her gaze from his briefly as his breath disturbs hair on top of her head. [break][break]

"What do you think of me?"

[attr="class","spiral"]It takes time and patience to get Fernando to break out of bad habit. Like clay, he becomes easier to mold the more work you put into him. Bronwen's hands push him to move in directions he's not used to, in ways he wouldn't have, and he adjusts into incorporating the motions going forward. He's still a lanky figure compared to the way she bends but it's a gradual improvement.

She asks him to reveal his innermost thoughts and Fernando avoids her gaze. His attention is on the sunset behind her. He takes his time to answer.

"Fuck."

She comes in close and he doesn't miss a beat. This time there's no hesitance.

"Fuck fuck."

Slowly but surely she can feel him relax against her wordless instruction and, while not perfect, their dancing seems genuinely well-matched. Stormy is, after all, by no means an expert dancer. It quite honestly seems out of character for her to enjoy it, and yet she moves with confidence despite her lack of skill behind it. As was her typical way of approaching any situation - tackle anything with confidence and, at some point, you may realize you're not half bad.[break][break]

Like him, Stormy avoids his gaze when he first responds. The one word answer is dissatisfying and yet she relates to it so much that it doesn't annoy her. Instead, she sighs, glancing at him with quiet curiosity as she turns back to look at him.[break][break]

"Fuck."[break][break]

Her response is tired, but she manages to smile. It isn't funny, not really, but she still smiles.

"Shut up, Bronwen." The scoff that escapes his lips is an attempt to defuse what would otherwise be a warmhearted moment. Unfortunately, Fernando will have none of it. He evades further eye contact. She's getting too comfy with where they're at.

And yet, he continues to dance with her, complacent with her growing familiarity.

She waits until he glances back at her, her smile widening even despite his scoff. Stormy squeezes his hand in response, looking past the man's attempts to defuse what would otherwise be a warmhearted moment, because it was a warmhearted moment. [break][break]

"Not possible - I usually have a lot to say."[break][break]

However, she does resume their mutual silence, encouraging him to be more creative in their back and forth. She pulls away to dangle at his fingertips, and if he doesn't pull her back then she opts to pull him back instead.[break][break]

For the first time in perhaps forever, she feels at least in his presence. They are not equals and yet she has come to accept him, see him.

Silence is golden. The shuffling sound of displaced sand fits alongside the music. It allows him to concentrate on their movements, as lacking as they are. Any attempt to coerce him into anything creative is met with downright refusal. For all his brilliance, Fernando is rigid in his thinking. Imagination is one of his most lacking features, the biggest contributor to his distaste for the arts.

Her wait is met with an ignorant stare. Only when she reels him in does he respond, needing her to actually prod him to deviate from their set path. Her sudden tug catches him by surprise and he fumbles on his first step. He catches himself but it brings him on eye level with her.

Her stare is deafening.

Stormy's concentration lies in the music, matching the beat and morphing their footsteps to bounce along with it. She's not particularly graceful, but she moves with confidence and is able to - much to her surprise - manipulate her hand in Fernando's unharmed one to beg him follow her.[break][break]

And she laughs quietly as her expectation is dashed, as he stumbles forward, clumsy. It's unexpected and her reaction is genuine.[break][break]

She shakes her head, meeting his stare. The thought crosses her mind: what is he thinking now?
