Fernando's investments and sponsorships ride on this. They don't need to claim every rank but having their name show up more than any other team will bode well for his stocks going forward. That's why he's not too picky about who signs up.

However, one individual has been consistent. And surprisingly, it's not just his best friend Kyle.

"What's your stake in all of this?" Marcel is still an enigma to him but he doesn't come off as an aspiring athlete. That's not to say he's plagued with a dad-bod from someone who's eaten too much cake, but the sentiment is there.

Before the start of their course, Fernando's Smeargle approaches Gavin's Mudsdale. His Pokemon takes turn giving it a good luck slap on the ass. If it wasn't for their consent and teamwork, you'd think they were BEATING IT UP.

Even after giving the Pokemon a good lick on the behind, the Smeargle remains MOODY.

Mudsdale is a new Pokemon and as such Gavin is uncertain how it will handle their idea of strategy — thankfully, it has enough STAMINA to endure the friendly assault from Fernando's Pokemon. It whinnies and scuffs the ground with its hoof, eager to begin.[break][break]

Gavin feels strange without his Metagross by his side, but he's heard good things about Silph and decides to follow the leader.[break][break]

He mounts up on his Mudsdale and the horse takes off, clearing the first obstacle with ease.[break][break]

and, as a result, wobbly leg illie follows quietly. there's still curious looks thrown over her shoulder, even as the first obstacle approaches a little too rapidly. damn, hello bruises.

Fernando sounds strangely eccentric about the prospect. He still has an image to hold in front of the three of them, with Illeana the most probable to actually believe him. It's not like Fernando outwardly claims the title of a Pokemon abuser but most people tend to doubt the authenticity due to his cold disposition.

Well there's that too. Even his Smeargle nods, PSYCHING UP to tackle on the course. It's not like it has much of a choice, so it follows along dutifully, striking back at one of the incoming projectiles.

her espeon clears the next obstacle with little difficulty and illeana's somehow able to do the same. it will all go downhill from there but hey, it's fine, it's fun!

"All that drinking will give you a beer belly if you're not careful." Fernando's actually laughing at his own commentary, mostly because it seems so weird having to lecture them. And, naturally, he's pegged right on the forehead by a foam dart, shutting him up as his Smeargle trots past him.

He's still getting used to handling the Mudsdale, knowing how far he can push it. There's been no time to put it through the extensive training regimen that his other Pokemon have been subjected to and he worries that being too harsh or insistent might seed resentment.[break][break]

illeana? yeah, that one was hard. she barely makes it over, a soft gasp escaping as she goes. it definitely almost knocked her right on her ass but she's still following behind gavin and marcel. speaking of marcel, she'll direct a thumbs up toward him when he checks back.

With his pride destroyed by something so minuscule, it goes without saying that he expects a better showing the second time around. Even though he's their last mark, the finish line is within sight. Jumping over another attempt to sweep him off his feet, he grits his teeth, picking up speed at the sight of their finish.
