Loud clapping brings everyone back to the starting line. As soon as the previous group finishes their run, Fernando reserves the obstacle course for his team. With an underhanded toss, he lobs a fresh water bottle at Gavin, uncapping his own as well.

He gives them a moment's respite before his Smeargle trudges behind Gavin's Mudsdale.

"Battle routine set."

This time should be sufficient.

"Execute."

The BEAT UP sound of paws and hands against the Mudsdale's ass echoes in a disturbing cacophony reminiscent of clapping cheeks. No wonder it leaves the Smeargle MOODY.

Gavin's reflexes are sharp with his focus; he snatches the water bottle from the air with the crunch of plastic and nods his thanks to Silph.

The humour of Rocket's higher ups teaming up with a Silph and councilman have worn off by this point. There is only the persistent drive to win. He's halfway through the bottle of water before the Smeargle finishes beating up his Mudsdale.[break][break]

[attr="class","illie i"]was that even a break? damn, they're gonna have to drag her out of here. the water bottle is abandoned for the starting line and like clockwork, the routine begins. she doesn't bother to watch this time around, instead glancing over in time to see espeon begin psyching up once more, inspired by the entire team.

she's slightly slower this time around, legs already trying to tap out. the first obstacle looks less painful than the first go around, at least?

They've grown accustomed to the speed of the moving belts and sweeping pillars. After their second try, Fernando's grasped a bit on how the obstacle course works and customized a new strategy to deal with it. As one of the pillars comes out, he stands against it, pushing back to slow it down to allow the others to go through. While he's used to a bruising, he's unsure how someone like Illeana will fare when pushed toward successive physical abuse.

It grants enough time for his Smeargle to PSYCH UP, refusing to budge while granting them time to slip underneath the obstacle.

He'd heard from the black market seller that this Mudsdale had been an Alolan race horse, and it shows. They jump another gap, and the horse does not falter.[break][break]

[attr="class","illie i"]honestly, she's faring about as well as to be expected. the bruises hurt but there's not really time to dwell over each and every one. instead, she'll keep up with the group and direct a thumbs up toward fernando. there's no use in trying to speak. it'd just come out as a croak anyway.

espeon slinks beneath the next obstacle and by now, she's a little more accustomed to the movements. it's easier to beneath it and dart away. definitely jealous of the mudsdale by now, she muses with a glance toward gavin.

[attr="class","spiral"]With a great deal of effort, Fernando falls limp, crawling on his knees as the obstacle pushes through and avoids him by an inch. At the cost of his stamina, he's granted passage to the rest of his team. Now they can return the favor, with Gavin leading them through the bulk of it. As long as they each do their fair share, they'll pass with minimal exertion.

Compared to some of the other teams which favor their individual performance to race the clock, their team work seems much more efficient.

Nothing that the Mudsdale's seemingly infinite stamina does in fact have some limits, the horse Pokemon slowing down in their third run of the course, Gavin displays a hint of his compassion by giving it the remainder of the water Silph had thrown him.

[attr="class","illie i"]somehow, the espeon still has some energy. barely but it's enough to keep her going. her trainer is mirroring her teammate's pokemon, however, and beginning to succumb to the exhaustion. legs burn and ache and it's painful to keep up but she won't be the weakest link (even tho her rolls are ass).

she's barreling over the next obstacle and it almost sweeps her off her feet. cleared, just barely. a glance is spared toward fernando, an eyebrow raising as if to ask if he's okay.

[attr="class","spiral"] While the other Pokemon are showing signs of fatigue, Fernando's Smeargle fares the best between the four of them. Hence Fernando's mindset about using the human as a transport and the Pokemon strictly for its need. Naturally, the Smeargle is still tired and bruised from having to serve as Fernando's protection, but it lacks the same burn and ache from having to constantly run. As if on cue, he uses the Smeargle as a battering ram against the same obstacle that threatens to knock Illeana down, using the fact that his Pokemon won't budge as an opportunity to slip around it.

His exhaustion is his own, but tenacity will carry him to the end.
