Steelix climbed quickly, out away from the people and through the opening in the roof, towards the stars.

Zac had lost track of the Unown, so it was time to regroup and figure out where the little bugger was. He was down one Minior, up one Steelix and, though he didn't know it, kyle lopez had just smashed one of his goddamn Pokeballs.

Descending slowly, Zac kept an eye out for the ?. Last he'd seen it was near Eva Morales. Kyle hadn't had any luck grabbing it, and neither had MATIAS SILPH, though both of them had come close at one stage or another. "Time for plan Z."

Zac climbed off Sénon Game, helping the man back to his feet. "Sorry about that mate! Thanks for the assist." He pulled the man into a three-way hug with MATIAS SILPH.

"Now, there did that damn flying dog get to..."

kyle lopez's Terrakion stamped on Zac's dropped Pokeball, freeing the Steelix that had been 'trapped' inside. Suddenly the party was much less cramped, as 32ft of stone and steel coiled around their little ranger rally. "Kev!" Zac said, as confused as he was excited. "Just the guy I wanted to see. MAGNET RISE!"

Zac climbed onto the back of the giant and took to the skies.

Thankfully Zac was thoroughly Robust, and he landed without issue.

"Whew! Bit of a drop from up there, ay?" he said to angelo vestri, just as MATIAS SILPH crashed into him, a second too late to catch him just just in time for a big hug. Much more than the run-of-the-mill Slateport Shuffle.

Zac reciprocated, drawing his friend up into a huge, bone-cracking hug. Hopefully Eva Morales didn't get jealous.

Kyle soared past on a flying dog, reminding Zac that he actually had a way better flying Pokemon: Steelix.

"Perfect!" he said to himself. Now, all he had to do was reach into his pocket and grab the ball. Slowly, carefully, and trying not to look at Kyle zipping around on that damn dog, Zac let go of the Minior with one hand. He swung, body dipping as he gripped the cracks in the shell. "Easy Merle, it's alright."

Zac reaching into his pocket with one hand. He pulled out the ball, and was about to throw it up into the air when his grip gave way and he fell twenty feet to the floor.

"Ramsay. What the hell!"

Well that was kind of fair. Honestly maybe he was going a bit overboard, but if there was any time to set off small to medium explosions indoors it was during a Soiree. Everyone knows that Soiree is Kalosian for 'danger'.

What wasn't fair was the Pokeball that whapped right into the back of Zac's skull. He struggled for balance, just as a second Pokeball came soaring through the air, knocking him off the green Minior. He stumbled, slipped, and barely managed to grab the black Minior as he fell.

Suspended above the crowd, Zac spun slowly, trying to pull himself back up. He caught sight of kyle lopez and MATIAS SILPH standing together, holding Pokeballs. "I knew it!"

Purple. Orange. Blue. Lilac. Green. Turquoise. Crimson. Black. Zac leapt from sphere to sphere across the ballroom, taking giant strides over the heads of his fellow trainers and colleagues. Don't bloody look down, Zac thought to himself.

He didn't have a fear of heights, per se. Only a fear of flying, and whether this counted as flying was highly debatable. Zac decided not to think about it too much and to just keep jumping.

A Pokeball shot past his head, and Zac tried not to turn around and look. Any fugger could have thrown that, but he had an inkling it was a certain Slateport Shuffler.

"You bitch," MATIAS SILPH called up, the words making Zac laugh. "Watch ya fuggin mouth!" he said through a smile, and he dropped another Pokeball on his friend.

The air in the upper floor burned from Zac's EXPLOSION, sending the Unown swooping back lower, barely avoiding capture at the skilled hands of Eva Morales. Unlike angelo vestri's Dreepy, Zac couldn't just blow her up.

I tried catching. I tried removing the competition. What else can I do? Think, Zac, think! Suddenly it came to him. "I'm going in! Rainbow road time!" Zac called, and he channeled the spirit of kyle lopez as he leapt from the balcony to land on the neared Minior.

The green Minior sunk two feet under his weight, before it bobbed back up to height. Zac took another wobbly leap onto the next, and the next, jumping across the stars as if they were stepping stones through the sky.

Two blue zips shot through the air, faster than arrows and less corporeal too. They sped towards the Minior cloud, whirling towards the rainbow orbs and closing in on the Unown far faster than Zac's Pokemon were able.

"Fugger!" Zac shouted, as he leaned over the upper balcony and pointed a thick finger right at angelo vestri . The pilot's smug and confident aura made him stand out from the crowd like a lighthouse beacon. "No way mate, this one's mine! Magnus! Defensive Maneuvers!" Zac called, and the red Minior dropped back from the pack.

As the Dreepy neared, Magnus swelled. There was a crunch of breaking shell, and a mighty EXPLOSION, and the air above the crowd was filled with fire.

'Straight and true' may have been a tad of an overstatement. The ball flew well enough, but at the last moment one of Zac's Minior broke formation, bumping the ball mid-flight and sending it plummeting down to bounce off of MATIAS SILPH's head.

"Head's up!" Zac called, helpfully. "I could use a hand up here mate! The bloody letter is getting away!"

In the meantime the Unown had soared further around the room and out of throwing range. Zac's Minior soared after it, aside from Davenport, who was still recovering from taking the major-league pitch to the forehead.

"Sorry buddy," Zac said, as the blue orb floated over to him. He plucked it from the sky, tucked it under his arm, and ran.

Zac followed at speed. Up the stairs, along the inner balcony, and around the outside of the room as fast as his legs and pumping arms would carry him.

Between his rainbow of Minior he already had minutes of footage, but that wasn't enough. Zac already had footage of the damn things. He had pictures from the Shoal Caves with @gina, videos from the Desert with Kazimir Wynter, even bloody charcoal rubbings from the ruins they had uncovered underneath the burning sands.

There was little to be gained from just seeing one of them again.

Zac had to catch it.

He pulled back his arm and hurled a Pokeball at the little bobbing bit of punctuation. It soared towards the rainbow cloud and at the last second his Minior scattered as the ball shot straight and true.

Zac stormed through the crowd, after the ?. His Minior swarmed and swirled overhead. They bumped into each other, letting off flashes of light as they followed behind the rogue letter as closely as possible.

He took out his phone, trying to open the Unown Report application and take a scan of the letter. "Which of these bloody things is it again?" he asked, mashing the screen with his finger.

An application opened, but Zac's heart sank as the menu theme of Pokemon Bodega Re-Mix blared out of his crusty speakers. Somewhere far away michiko maeda might feel a little jolt of excitement.

He noticed that Kazimir Wynter was on the chase for the Unown too, and he called out. "Over here mate! Let's try and box it in!"

"Of course I'll be there!" Zac said, grinning at the invite from Sénon Game and cait alfric . "There's nothing I'd rather do than be there on your special day." He slapped Senon on the back heartily before the redhead shot off into the crowd, probably on some Official Wedding Business.

Kazimir appeared! "I didn't say ya name but I was sure as hell thinking it," Zac said, giving the fellow fugger a Slateport Shuffle. "Has he recovered yet?" Zac laughed. "Next time we gotta keep him away from the spirits!" Whether he was referring to the alcohol or the Ouija board was unclear.

kim cole-essam and his wife najwa cole-essam dropped in, bringing their circle up to a truly untaggable number. "Great to see ya Kim! I'm doing fan-bloody-tastic!" He took a deep breath of the fresh night air that was flowing in from the open ceiling. "Almost as good as being outside, ay? How about yourselves? Having a good time?" he asked, nodding at Kim and Najwa.

Before they could answer, the black, glossy, unmistakably curvy form on an Unown floated across the lobby. Zac's eyes were drawn to it like iron to a lodestone, and before he could politely excuse himself he picked up Kibou and sprinted off across the floor, narrowly avoiding bumping into @jess , who was busy ogling Katherine Fairburne 's cleavage.

He hurled a dozen Pokeballs into the air, releasing his swarm of Minior cameramen, who zipped after the Unown. "Don't let it outta your lenses!"

Lava me some Science [HEATRAN]

Zac's stomach lurched as Eva TELEPORTED them right into the path of the magma. The bubble of SANCTUARY went up seconds before the slow wave hit them, and the sea of burning rock parted, leaving them safe in their tiny island. "Slick moves," Zac said, eyes searching the lava flow for something. "Do you see 'em?" Zac asked, looking through the flow for the Heatran. "Zagrea and the other guy. They were in the magma. Can you see 'em anywhere?"

He did have a plan, and it was a doozy. On the run down the mountain he's noticed the bulbous pair of Heatran pop up in the middle of the lava flow. They had come up from inside the mountain, emerging from some tiny tunnel that fed into a side tube. If he could widen that tube, then maybe he could divert the flow back into the volcano!

In the teleport, Zac had lost track of them. "Dracozolt, use Thunderbolt!" he shouted, and a crackle of forking light snapped from the volcanic clouds above. It bend unnaturally, moving towards the magma and striking two steel Pokemon that had been lost in the flow.

"There! Okay. Now aim just a little up from there mate," Zac said, slapping the Dracozolt supportively. "Hit it with your best shot. Whatever you've got in store."

Dracozolt chirped, worried, but stomped forward to the edge of the barrier. Something shifted in the sky above the volcano, and a huge chunk of meteorite burned through the sky.

The DRACO METEOR plunged into the magma, sending plumed of burning rock splattering across SANCTUARY. Underneath them, the mountain shuddered as something internal collapsed, and the flow of magma slowed, slowed, and began to move backwards.

Zac is looking for the Heatran
Dracozolt uses Thunderbolt to find them
Dracozolt uses Draco Meteor to smash open a path to the insides of the volcano, draining away the lava

"That's the good stuff right there," Zac said, nodding in approval of Giselle's ranger work. He liked taking the time to get back to basics too. There could be an intoxicating freedom to the wilds, and to getting your hands dirty helping put the world right.

He waved away her worried, grinning in the sunlight. "Right as rain! As we came out of the mountain we hit a time pocket and an old guy who I think was a previous Groudon avatar enchanted a can of Charja-Cola with some of his primal energy," Zac explained, sounding more and more like a conspiracy theorist, "and when I drank it I got the ability to shape earth, a bit like Bailey Cooper used to do! But you saw that action up in the caldera anyway. Shame it faded though. I'm sure I could have held it for longer."

A Beheeyem loomed out of the bushes, possibly attracted by Zac's alien ramblings. Certainly to any outsider, the combination of time travel, superpowers, and magic soda would seen like unintelligible nonsense, but the Pokemon seemed attracted by it. It floated very close to Zac, beeping softly as it bonded with him. "Hey buddy!" said the ranger, rubbing its semi-metallic head. He turned to Giselle, "see this is what I was talking about. Just wandering the land and making new friends."
