Sabine nods slowly, absorbing this information he's feeding her. The Pokemon names all come to the forefront of her thought, painting images in her mind. It's only due to his ramblings that she realizes where the beetle looks familiar from. It's a Heracross.[break][break]

But just as she's about to comment on that, he interrupts her train of thought by pulling the beetle away, pressing his thumb a certain way and making a quick attempt to hide whatever must have happened. She'd heard it though, heard that definitive click. [break][break]

Her hands reach out to cup beneath his, momentarily alarmed as he shifts the pieces together on the handkerchief. Slowly, one hand moves to settle overtop, to gently brush aside the golden pieces and reveal the true treasure.[break][break]

Zac does the work of actually handling the object, and Sabine's breath exhales sharply in surprise and awe, warm against his outstretched hands. [break][break]

His question is jarring, though, and that much is given by the blush that spreads across her cheeks. She stifles a giggle, leaning back.[break][break]

"Balls? I hope you mean mega stones, love, because that's what you have in your hand. I can't say I've ever seen one up close, though, but I've kept tabs on the research being done on them. I'd need to run it through tests and speak to another professional on the matter, perhaps take it to the head scientists of Hoenn--"[break][break]

She catches herself, catches the hunger in her slew of questions. Her desire to get her hands on what he has is undeniable, but she shows a moment of restraint.[break][break]

"I mean-- you can take this to the head scientists of Hoenn. They were, after all, the ones who first discovered them."[break][break]

"What? Are you all too manly to talk to one another? Too afraid of ones britches being bigger than the others?"

She glances about at the three of them and their mutual grunting, using gutteral tones instead of human words. Their Pokemon step around her and each other to handle the digging, ultimately doing more of the hard work even than anyone else in these tunnels. She scoffs, turning away.

Their lack of chatter disappoints and frustrates her, and as much as she tries to hide that, it's impossible given the eerie glow of her helmets flashlight casting distorted shadows on her face.

Everyone else swaps their Pokemon, and she does as well, exchanging the Granbull for a Toucannon. It settles on her extended arm and she appears uncomfortable by the weight, and surprised that the bird even had the audacity. It sprays bullet seeds at the wall, pinging stones away as they make contact. The process sprays mud back, staining her cheek.

Her gasp of disgust is loud.

Sabine's green eyes flick up to meet his red ones, curiosity granting her own a slight twinkle. His tone shifts to something more serious, and she studies his face, and then his hand as he pulls out this carefully wrapped object.[break][break]

He mentions a name and she ignores it. Whoever this 'Kaz' is is irrelevant to what's in his hand. The monologue is unnecessary but she forces herself to maintain her relaxed smile, to nod along with his story-telling. The last thing she wanted was to discourage him and ruin her hopes of finding out what exactly he had.[break][break]

"Carvings? Like Unown and such?"[break][break]

She wasn't really well-versed in the actual science or archaeology behind such things. She'd read books and the like, knew of carvings. But she'd never actually seen anything in person.[break][break]

But the mention of ornate furniture curves her lips into a grin. [break][break]

"Interesting..."[break][break]

He reveals his prize and she sucks in a breath, genuinely fascinated by what she sees. The beetle is beautiful, if perhaps a bit tarnished from age. She doesn't dare touch it, and instead waves someone down with an actual eye for detail. They're currently busy with other business, however, and no one comes immediately.[break][break]

"She is quite a beauty."[break][break]

The taste she's carrying around leaves a bitter taste in the back of her mouth, like cheap booze bought at a shitty corner store two minutes before the party. Sabine only holds onto it because she can't find a place to set it down and forget about it. It's barely touched and she has no intention of finishing it, at least not until she was too drunk to care.[break][break]

She's signed up for a night of probably disappointment and humiliation, but that itch and that craving to be the center of attention, even for a moment, is too strong. Honestly, she should just go home and count her blessings, but there she was and had been flirting with the guy at the front desk, signing in names and passing out nametags. The unfortunate part was he wasn't participating.[break][break]

And one quick sweep around the room indicated the pickings were slim.[break][break]

On her way to her first blind date, with a young woman by the name of cait alfric, Sabine manages to bump into an unsuspecting man. They make eye contact just long enough for Sabine to wrinkle her nose and get upset. Why? Because she'd heard someone catcall, or whistle, or make any sort of noise in her general direction, and the first person she saw making eye contact was the guy in the dark hoodie.[break][break]

"What's your problem?"[break][break]

As she passes him, she splashes him (Wuuko Whysteria) in the face with what remains of her drink. Her plastic cup, oh God, it's plastic? bounces off to the side and she continues on her way. By the time she reaches Cait, her mood has artificially lifted and she approaches the woman with poise and a charming smile.[break][break]

"Excuse me, might your name be Cait Alfric?"[break][break]

Sabine is on the phone, arguing with another taxi service or something, likely, given the way her cheeks are flushed red and her feet are pacing grooves in the sidewalk. She doesn't at first notice the young man or his gigantic shiny Corviknight because she's too caught up in her own world and the problems she was experiencing. [break][break]

But then she does a double-take as she glances over her shoulder, gasping and hanging up immediately as she rushes back over.[break][break]

"You don't have any Corviknight, really? What's this, then?"[break][break]

She's still being uptight, and she hesitates only when the guy thumbs her toward the car. She tucks her chin, floored with his bluntness and well, dare she say, rudeness.[break][break]

"I'm not cattle, thank you very much. You could ask nicer."[break][break]

Of course, she does end up climbing into the taxi car, smoothing her jacket over her legs and setting her purse off to the side.[break][break]

"I'm trying to get to Petalburg."[break][break]

The man's enthusiasm rivals her own and she holds onto her fake smile, now with an added head tilt![break][break]

He extends a hand for her and she takes it eagerly despite the disgust she feels behind her half-lidded grin. Had he even washed his hands? He looked like he'd just come from a mining shaft! Disgusting.[break][break]

At the mention of her Pyroars, however, the woman returns her hand to her side and glances down the hall to the two shy beasts nearby. [break][break]

"Yes, I suppose they can be!"[break][break]

What was it that he wanted, exactly?[break][break]

Her eyes widen briefly in uncomfortable, awkward surprise as he pats a bulging side pocket. Sabine's patience holds strong, however, and she waits while he puts on his display.[break][break]

And then he makes a point to wander around the room for a moment instead of getting straight to the point, and she tightens her smile as she watches him. When he finally stops in front of her to.. examine her shoes? Sabine licks the surface of her teeth behind closed lips briefly before staring at him with a genuinely puzzled expression.[break][break]

"Excuse me?"[break][break]

He seemed genuinely enthusiastic, and her own curiosity gets the better of her as she indulges him.[break][break]

"What have you found?"[break][break]

Sabine Calcifet was not a particularly friendly woman. She held herself on a pedestal of importance and superiority and valued herself above all else. So upon setting eyes on a man who very clearly does not live as she does, with posh items, expensive clothing, and their hair perfectly coifed -- she reacts with disgust.[break][break]

And the fact that he takes a second out of his day to give her the time of day, by glancing down at his clothing -- she's got him right where she wants him. Because there is another thing about Miss Calcifet: she loves the spotlight, even negative.[break][break]

"Do you see anyone else dressed like a homeless man, in haphazard rags?"[break][break]

He calls her a walking fire-hazard and she isn't smart enough to understand what it is that he means. Whatever perfume she wears is subtle, and honestly probably more a result of the shampoo she conditions with rather than whatever expensive bottle she's spritzed herself with. God, she really needs to get a Spritzee.[break][break]

Sabine steps aside when the man approaches her, and she wrinkles her nose regardless of the fact that he doesn't smell sweaty or musty. She's made up her mind, and nothing can change that - not even the truth.[break][break]

If the woman had come up here to tend to the memorials, that task had been immediately abandoned in favour of seeking attention by bullying an innocent man minding his own business. [break][break]

"What are you even doing here?"[break][break]

Sabine narrows her eyes in some semblance of an attempt to maintain control. He throws his poke ball into the apartment and she shudders at the sight of the Pidgey diving into her apartment. She could just imagine the feathers and.. dander that that dratted bird might leave behind. She kept her areas spotless, after all.[break][break]

"Don't push your luck."[break][break]

Her attention shifts to the man, however, when he encourages the bird to not make a mess. She sniffs, mildly relieved and yet unwilling to voice it out loud.[break][break]

The moment the bird shows up, however, is the moment her two Pyroar creep around the corner. The female licks her lips and Sabine clicks her tongue to gather her attention.[break][break]

"Go on, mind your business, Nefertiti."[break][break]

Sabine glances back at J.J.[break][break]

"I've only just arrived in Hoenn, so no."[break][break]

Sabine's lips part in surprise as the man before her breaks into a fit of laughter. She takes a small step back, visibly disgusted and dismayed by his reaction. Why was he laughing? Did he think she was lying? Why wasn't he taking her seriously? [break][break]

"Of course I'm serious."[break][break]

Her attention shifts to the pokeball he tosses up and down. Sab's eyebrows furrow and she straightens her posture to hold herself just a little bit taller. J.J. is taunting her, counting down in order to get a rise out of her. It's sad that it works so well.[break][break]

"Fine! Fine, whatever. I'll buy you your damn coffee."[break][break]

Exasperated and humiliated, she turns on her heel to head for the elevator. If he doesn't immediately follow her, she'll turn to stare at him while fishing in her purse for her designer sunglasses.[break][break]

"Well? Are you coming or not?"[break][break]

Sabine blinks up at him when he laughs at her and then corrects her. Warmth tinges her cheeks rosy as she stares back at him indignantly. [break][break]

What really sets her off, however, isn't the fact that he isn't willing to finish his job, but that he outright insults her.[break][break]

"Excuse me? 'Living in a place like this'? What the fuck's that supposed to mean? I can buy you a coffee, I can buy you the whole damn coffee shop."[break][break]

His arched brow is aggravating, and it makes her more on edge with the fact that she can't seem to pry her attention away from his face. There's a twinkle in his eye when he watches her, as if he's finding a great deal of amusement in mocking her.[break][break]

Did he just shrug? [break][break]

Sabine's mouth parts in a display of disgusted surprise as she watches him stare back at her so nonchalantly as if nothing she was saying meant anything to him. He even slips his hands into his pockets to stare back down the stairs. His bird stares back, tilting its head. Sabine swallows, shifting her attention back to his icy blues when he turns to her in the form of a question.[break][break]

Her brows furrow and she blinks.[break][break]

"What could you possibly want? I thought that's what you were here to do, to exterminate these disgusting creatures? Your job is definitely not done."[break][break]

Without warning, she reaches forward to pull his hand out of his pocket and tug him along by his wrist. She huffs as if this whole ordeal is putting her out and she'd rather be anywhere else. Her door is not far and she unlocks it to push it inside.[break][break]

"Well? Get rid of the bugs. Please."[break][break]
