So close, yet so far away.

Aggron feels Jayden narrowly dodging its claws. But before he could even consider another attack, Dragapult jumped him, a tidal wave of water following suit, pushing him away from his trainer.

Desperation.

It tried to fight the water, cut it with its claws, beat it with its tail. But the water kept dragging him away until at last his anger turned to the Dragapult.

Water had been Dragapults weapon, but now Aggron was inclined to use it as well. It took aim, jaws open as it let the HYDRO PUMP fly.

Meanwhile Elinor was doing her best soul-borne impression as she duck and rolled to the best of her ability. Though her best wasn’t all that good. The storm exploded from the metallic edge, and though she dodged the majority, she still felt how the howling forces teared at protective gear, even causing damage beneath.

She needed to reunite with Aggron, but she doubted Jayden was about to let her do so easily. And looking toward Laurence Anderson revealed the cousin was occupied as well.

Right… I need to deal with this on my own.

She retrieved a Pokéball and released its inhabitant quickly. The Shiny Kommo-o took to the field standing between its trainer and jayden cross. Its usual lazy expression exchanged with one of fury.

“Kaleo, be careful, that guy isn’t going to be easy.” She quietly informed her Pokémon. It gave a nod as it began to visible BULK UP.

Elinor was indeed on the lighter-side of things. This weight difference proved her undoing, and definitely not helped along by her height. A diminutive 167.64 Centimeters made for poor reach, as she soon found out when she was thrown off his back like a sack of potatoes.

She grunted and groaned in surprised pain as she became intimately familiar with cold mist covered ground. But she did her best to quickly get up as she heard his words. Hand quickly reaching for a Pokéball.

Lapras wasn’t a fighter as proven by the mist growing thinner by the second as she was distracted by the situation.

Elinor had to rely on another Pokémon for the combat.

“Stand down, and surrender quietly. Then we don’t have to do something that you and your friends will regret.” She commanded, her voice carrying an authority befitting someone used to bossing around people.

Her grip grew tighter, she had a feeling this wouldn’t go easy.

Fire and Flames, some ghostly some not, all of them used to deter the enemy from going further by dealing as much damage as they possibly could.

Typhlosion wasn’t holding back.

But it wasn’t the only one.

The power of a Z-move was used by one of their attackers. Typhlosion would have laughed at the little Eevee, if it hadn’t then proceeded to knock out one of Josh’s Pokémon.

And so it jumped into action to help Josh and his Pokemon, sending a blazing Flamethrower at the battlefield aiming to hit the Eevee, not by matching its speed but by stealing away the places it might run to.

Meanwhile the two Steelix’s quickly finished setting up a protectable parameter of huge Rock-chunks. And so, Elinor gave the command for one of them to join the battle.

The Golden serpent took to the field, a quick ROCK POLISH making it ready and some might even say faster for the battle to come.

Muscles tensed.

Breathe grew forced.

Anticipation grew almost tangible.

Elinor couldn’t wait. Each step sounded closer and closer. Until they moved past the rock, and the barely visible silhouette appeared in front of her. And that’s when she went into motion.

She attempted to jump him, hand trying to cover his mouth and muffle any screams he might make as she intended to force him down on the ground.

But she was no trained soldier, her execution was almost certainly sloppy.

All of this came very much as a surprise to Lapras who just continued to try and focus on keeping the Mist up.

It seemed this debate had devolved into the pot calling the kettle black. Neither side would win the argument. For they each believed themselves right.

But Elinor knew the truth. She knew she was right, she HAD to be right. If she wasn’t right, well, that was a thought for another time.

Luckily the combined efforts of Sceptile and Steelix caught enough of her attention to pull her away from her own inner monologue.

Fake-Metagross defeated Isaac all alone.

“You're coming in alive, like it or not.” She wasn’t about to make a Martyr out of Isaac.

She gave a quick nod and Sceptile stepped forward, towering over the young man with its imposing figure.

A few seconds later, Sceptile might’ve finished the job. But something caught its attention, perhaps a glint of light, the rustling of wing-beats, or perhaps it even broke the fourth wall and heard the heroic music score that started to play.

Elinor too noticed, and she was quick to act.

A bright blue light began to crystalize around the Sceptile. And when the Drill pecks descended upon it, it felt the damage diminished. But the attack offered it an opportunity, and it was quick to make use of it, attempting to grab onto the Corviknight, not only with its powerful grip with the help of the vines from a powerful FRENZY PLANT.

Meanwhile a reenactment of the age old tale of Flabebe vs Haxorus. Only this time the participants were a Rals and a huge Steelix.

Where Sceptile might’ve had the finesse and intentions to hold back. Lix wasn’t burdened with something so civilized as a conscience. And so with its tail glowing bright steel silver, it attempted to squash the little creature beneath an IRON TAIL. Ignoring completely the gathering psychic energies above him.

Both trainer and Pokémon gazed upon the violent spectacle of light and destruction until they saw naught but the machine lying in the middle of the sizeable crater.

Sparks flew from it like the dramatic gushing of life giving fluids.

Andrea began to speak, and Elinor began to listen, only for the two of them to be violently interrupted by the sudden attempt at escape from the Paradox Pokémon.

The Pink misty walls were torn by a roaring tornado. But before the Mechanical Chomper-copy could get through Andrea threw a Pokéball and captured it.

Much to Elinor’s surprise it seemed to work.

“CONGRATULATIONS?!” Elinor spoke an equal mix of enthusiasm and surprise in her voice.

“That thing was surprisingly strong.” She commented. Far too strong to be that of a mere wild Pokémon.

“If we could capture more of those…” She mumbled quietly, as her gaze turned to the Salamence that stepped toward her. And as it did she pondered something else.

If this mist can manifest our dreams and wishes… Could it possibly revive the dead?

The memory of Gon her Salamence slowly welled up in her, the good… And the bad.

And the mist latched onto all of it.

It grew dark, devoid of light on the night sky. Vaste, as if space and time was no longer a concept to the pinkness of dreams turned nightmare.

But Elinor could still see. Even though she wished she could not. The faint silhouette of a giant tree in the background. The slowly descending black hail.

A shiver ran down her spine.

“Andrea this isn’t your doing, right?” Elinor looked toward the young dragon-enthusiast. Terror in her eyes.

Shadowy wispy forms began to move about, some more in focus than others. One particular form closest to them, a bright pink haired woman and a Salamence. Their forms grew more dense, as if the mist itself was slowly rendering it all from memories.

Minh the Illumina Salamence looked in confusion toward what was clearly its trainer and… And… It couldn’t be. Gon… Her father. His powerful wings kept his trainer safe from the Dark hail that was taking up more space upon his wings by the second.

Now it was Elinor’s turn to hug herself, each hand clutching the opposite arm as she shivered from a nonexistent cold. She shook her head, praying that it would end.

A huge explosion ended the silence of the scene for a brief moment.

Andrea and Elinor would be largely unaffected, as if this was all just a cinematic play for them.

The same could not be said for the Salamence and trainer of that day. The Salamence with its blackened wings had curled up around its trainer, protecting it from the explosion. The faint muffled voice of a desperate young woman began to emerge from the slowly dying Salamence.

“Gon. Gon, are you alright?”

The Elinor of now began to sob. She didn’t want to be reminded of this.

“Gon… Gon… Gon Answer? ANSWER ME!” The scene continued.

The Salamence did not reply as the last heaves of air escaped from it. Its last act of service was to remove its wing so she could exit.

“No Gon, you can’t do this. Move. MOVE GON, WE NEED TO GET AWAY!” The sight of a frantic Elinor trying to push, shove and at last hit the dead body in frustration, was evident as she begged for Salamence to move just one more time.

“I… I am sorry, Gon. I am So, so sorry Gon.”

The Elinor of now bawled almost as much as the Elinor of then.

The Dark Hail began to grow like fungi-spores upon the dead Salamence.

The Elinor of the past hurried out. Watching as the Dark Spores consumed the Salamence, turning into a crystal casket.

I don’t want to see this. Please, no more… If only I had been stronger, it could’ve been different. The Elinor of now was shaking, crying, lost in her own thoughts as her eyes perceived her worst nightmare for the second time.

But this was where the Interdream mist stopped adhering to the reality of memories and started putting its own artistic spin on things.

A crack appeared in the crystals, then one more, and another soon following that. The loud growling of a dragon refusing to die emerged, breaking apart crystal with ease until it pulled itself out of its casket like a newborn Butterfree.

“Gon…” Elinor looked in baffled surprise alongside the Illumina Salamence.

While what stood before them definitely resembled a Salamence, it looked different. And it didn’t seem to recognize them or anything for that matter. It looked around in anger, pain and confusion until its eyes locked on Elinor and the Illumina Salamence.

They were the source of all this. They had to be, why else would their visage be seared in its mind?

A bright blue hue formed around its body accentuating its Draconic features as it rushed headlong at them with a DRAGON RUSH.

Surprise befell the Illumina Salamence as psychic energies of its headbutt dissipate, seemingly not even touching the mechanical monster.

Had it not been for the well placed Z-move this might’ve ended badly for either of them. “That’s a good point.” Elinor nodded in agreement as her eyes kept watch over the battle.

“Minh, Light of Ruin.”

Even with the Steel typing, the Dark-typing should make it weak to a fairy move like that.

Salamence's body glowed for a short moment as the energies gathered in its mouth, before spewing forward as a powerful beam aimed at the Iron Jugulis.

Diving in was the easy part. Registering what was going on, now that was the hard part.

Two Hydreigon, one normal and the other seemingly made of metal. Locked in combat, yet one of them did not seem to be feeling the pain.

And then there was the voice.

Her gaze fell upon Andrea, and for once she moved with no hesitation. She kneeled in front of the curled up woman. Placed a pair of steady hands on her shoulders as she spoke. “Perhaps you did, there’s a lot we don’t know about this mist. But that does not make you a bad person.”

“But don’t worry about that, it’s going to be alright! Because I am here now!”

She let go and turned to the mechanical beast, fetching a quick Pokéball as she now stood tall and battle ready. “Minh, let’s go.”

A Salamence with a bright illumina pattern adorning its body manifested from the sphere. It roared as it saw its opponent, and wasted no time in jumping at the mechanical monster with a ZEN HEADBUTT.

From her position she heard the sound of voices. One commanding and another less so.

“Keep it up.” She whispered to Lapras. For a moment she considered letting Lapras sing one of its sleep inducing songs. But then she realized that in doing so she would alert them to her presence.

She heard steps coming her way, careful steps.

Even in the cold mist, she felt the adrenaline coursing through her body, granting her warmth as she anticipated the arrival of an enemy.

Yet she did not move, only pressed herself up against the rock she hid behind alongside Lapras.

Ready to pounce, should whatever grunt that was heading their way continue to do so.

Though Aggron’s power seemed limitless, it was far from it. Mega Evolution was nearing its end. So was its Z-move effect. And both opponents were quick to capitalize on it.

Weird pink noodly goo appendages wrapped themselves around him, constraining his movement and ability to defend as the Infinity energy radiated off of the Aggron like heat from a car-engine. But gooey arms weren’t the only thing he needed to fear. Hammer Arm after Hammer Arm descended upon him, and at last he had to give in.

Aggron was knocked out.

Gravity returned to completely normal.

Elinor back onto her feet just in time to hear Isaac’s little call out.

She called Aggron back into its ball and was quick to summon two other mons.

“You truly want me to believe that?”

She uttered as a fierce looking Sceptile and a huge imposing Steelix manifested by her side.

“If this was an evac zone… if you were giving medical aid unconditionally…” She paused feeling her blood pump frantically through her veins, edging her on to do more, say more. “You would have no reason to hide! It would’ve been a war crime to attack you.”

“Yet you were hiding, and there’s not a single other soul in sight… Seems to me like you just wanted to ambush whoever stumbled upon this site…”

A smirk formed on her lips. “Too bad for you that it had to be me.”

And so the battle would continue. Sceptile being the first to jump into action as LEAF BLADEs formed on its arms. It would swing with the intention of knocking the Ditto out.

But the gigantic metallic serpent wasn't about to let the Sceptile have all the fun. It wanted a bite of the blob too! and so it charged at it with FIRE FANGs bellowing with lethality.

Elinor and her Golden Steelix had just raised the first stone at the far side of the outpost when the trap triggered. It was a combined Sticky Glob and Scatter Bang trap. Easy to make and harmless, a simple warning some might say.

The loud bang it produced alerted her to the intruder.

“Tch…” Elinor said as she jumped onto the back of her Steelix before it would make its way toward the trap.

Hopefully whoever had stepped onto it, would still be there when she came around the outpost.

Lemon and Ginger, it matched the smell. At least she would’ve loved to claim so, but honestly her brain wasn’t picking up much of what her nose was trying to tell it.

And so she sipped, pushing away safety for the promise of a nice drink.

And nice it was.

A question was posed for her. One she actually had to think about.

“Save for a few scratches, and fatigue, I am as good as I can be.” She put on her brave face, as she handed him his hip flask once more. But one look at the gear she wore and another tale was told. She'd seen enough battle for today.

“How about you?”

Isaac fought bravely against gravity itself to deliver his message.

But they did nothing to appease Elinor. In fact, they only added fuel to the fires of frustration eating at her soul.

She began to stand up tall, Poison Barb in hand. Metagross’s psychic energies work like a crutch to support her against gravity. But in working on two fronts, it left itself vulnerable.

The Bitter Malice struck true, knocking the Metagross out. And as consciousness faded from it, so did the crutches keeping Elinor up.

She fell to her knees once more, the Poison Barb falling from her hand, digging itself into the ground.

With no way of doing harm, she had to use her words.

“I am doing… What I can…” She gritted her teeth, the pressure of gravity bearing down on her shoulders as much as they did on Isaac. “Instead of preaching… How about… You stop working for the people that cause trouble, and instead start actually helping!” She forced the words out, though she felt herself drained from the effort.

Speaking of effort.

Mega Metagross refused to fall, instead, it returned the attack with a heavy Hammer Arm of its own. The sheer force toppled Aggron, the psychic that followed and blew the wind from its stomach. But Aggron hadn’t been defeated just yet. With surprising ease, the metallic beast rolled onto its stomach, and got up, tearing the ground to shreds as it did.

It would then charge at the Mega Metagross, SHADOW CLAWS at the ready, intent on jumping straight on its face and clawing the life out of its opponent.

By now the increased gravity was lessening, growing weaker with each passing second.
