to some, it was a casual party. to the likes of mila alexopoulos, it was a work event.

[break][break] ever since the invites had been sent out, the calls at PRIMARINA DESIGNS had been ringing off the hook. even though the technical dress-code for the event was festive casual, there were many that wanted to show up to the league event of the season with fancy clothes to impress their colleagues or network with future sponsors.

[break][break] and for mila's sake, she didn't care about rules. she was more than gleeful to provide her customers and friends the fashion advice that they asked for.

[break][break] which included both the likes of Gunner Graves and paxton concordas, whether the two knew it or not.

[break][break] donning a shimmering clutch and gorgeous maroon dress, the fashion designer walked through the glowing lights of mossdeep observatory. her eyes roved the entirety of the space, which drowned in soft, twinkling starlight. immediately her eyes catch the telescope, and she walks towards it, heels clicking against the linoleum floor, placing a small black present underneath the tree for Gunner Graves. inside it, he would find a tuscan leather wallet with his name embroidered on the edge.

[break][break] she stepped away, glancing around the room. she didn't see him right away, but that wasn't surprising considering how well-known he was in the space and the amount of people that were slowly spilling through the room. her eyes caught, instead, on paxton concordas — or rather the suit that he had ordered from PRIMARINA DESIGNS.

[break][break] "hey!" she said, flouncing up to him with ease. ruby-red lips twisted into a smile, as she appraised him, hand on his hip. "looks like it arrived just in time."

[break][break] "you clean up well, sweetheart."

[break][break] though, technically, she preferred him without clothes — but she'd made a promise to Gunner Graves to stop that.

[break][break] well, that didn't mean she couldn't appreciate what was already on display, though.

But she would have been lying if she had said she wasn't a little bit curious, especially after all the things that Gunner Graves had told him about his job and how things had been lately.

[break][break] She was most curious about that alternate world, the one that had been the reason that he'd ended up on her doorstep that day, almost an entirely different version of the person he used to be.

[break][break] But Mila didn't plan these things. She hadn't wanted it — the rift had merely opened up in front of her and fate had handled the rest.

[break][break] "Dolce!" she called sharply, chasing after the Fennekin into the rift, and then gasped when she was dropped onto rock and stone. The Fennekin looked around too, curiosity lighting his amber-eyed gaze — shafts of violet light glimmered like crystals behind his eyes as he spun around and observed everything around them.

[break][break] Mila, too, was without words. So much so that she would not have recognized anybody behind her unless they stabbed her in the back.

[break][break] Weeks spent putting aside money from the registry away for a birthday she knew was coming, a gift that she had always wanted to buy but never had the means to do so. Some might have assumed from the way that she dressed that Mila was an expensive girl, but someone like Gunner who had dated someone like that would know better. That most of Mila's outfits were handmade or thrift-store finds, that any of the glamor that she wore was self-made at best.

[break][break] Her eyes were fierce as she chucked the watch at him, thrown with all the fierceness of a dagger. It may have been many years since she'd used a weapon for anything more than re-stitching the work on fabric, but there were some things about her ex-Rocket past that would never leave her completely. jackson barrett would know the power of her arm, and the deft way she used to be able to wield a dagger.

[break][break] Her eyes widened as he slid off Bruin, and for a moment, her concern for him got the better of her. Of her anger, her rage, her rightiousness.

A unbelievable laugh nearly escaped from her, only to halt in her throat the moment that she saw Gunner step away from her, eyes full of lightning frost.

[break][break] Bruin nuzzled against her, and she sighed momentarily, reaching for him. A brush of her fingers against his temple to say a silent thank-you to his trainer's ridiculousness, before she scowled at Gunner.

[break][break] She stood up. A hand tightened around her waist, balling up the present that she had gotten him.

[break][break] Without hesitation, her hand flung. The gleaming silver rolex — inscribed lovingly with the words Always Yours — soared through the air and aimed for his skull.
