predictably, his childhood friend looks less than enthused to see him — at least less enthused than leo, which is not a particularly difficult feat to manage considering that almost everyone was always less enthusiastic than the golden retriever version of a man. still, leo watches as his friend slips down from his seat on the railing and then approaches them, head tilted slightly at the other's comment. "huh? nope, no jokes here," he says, smiling good naturedly as he's pulled into a hug.

[break][break] it's only then that he notices that it isn't just him and Greyson Connors — it's DANNY HALL too!

[break][break] leo is practically beaming as he watches his two childhood friends embrace. of course, he tries to be patient waiting for his turn but he can't and ends up practically clobbering the two in a suffocating hug. "i can't believe you guys are back home! what are the odds?" he laughs, and then reaches forward to ruffle the younger of the trio's hair - if he'll let him.

visiting home is heartwarming. he comes home every so often - usually on weekends, when the workload is light - and is always welcomed by the same smell of his mother's cooking, the comforting sight of his dad opening the day's paper, and the crackling of a fire. today, however, he's not spending time with either of his parents — his mom is busy with her housecleaning, and she shooed him out of the house almost as soon as she was able. not that he minds it either - not really; his mom is kind of a bundle of stress on days like these.

leo stands in the summer-warm weather, lens pointed at the sky, and then out at the horizon, when his aperture focuses on the sight of a familiar set of dark hair and brooding violet eyes.

a grin breaks across his face, as clean as the sky that beams brightly above.

he waves. "rayray!" he chimes to Greyson Connors , letting his camera hang around his neck as he approaches his old neighbor, singing an old childhood nickname.

+ With the strange noise investigated, Leo turned back around and headed down the path back towards the Slateport University apartments. Or at least he would, had he not suddenly found himself lost.

[break][break] He frowned.

[break][break] Probably at this point, it would have been good to take Peanut out. She was always good with directions, probably much better than him, but she was a bit big for these city streets and more importantly than that, he didn't want to have to deal with her disappointed look when she realized that he'd wandered a little bit too far from the usual path. Instead, he pulled his jacket open and stared down at the formerly dozing Fletchling that was cuddled in the nook. "Hey," he whispered. "Do you .. uh, do you know the way?"

[break][break] Rue blinked an eye up at him, but then promptly closed it. So.. that was a no then.

[break][break] Huffing, he looked around and decided that he ought to pull out his phone. Unfortunately, this provided no such luck as there was suddenly no cell service. The dim light of the Lower Slateport street suddenly began to look ominous, a lamppost creaking above. Oh geeze.

[break][break] In his moment of despair, however, there was a hero to the rescue.

[break][break] "Pin! Cur! Chin!"

[break][break] Blinking, Leo looked to see a small, spiky creature (fish? insect? bug?) staring right back at him. It's beady eyes seemed to bore right into Leo's sole from where it sat, settled in the previous night's rainwater. "Me?" Leo mouthed at it, pointing to himself. Somehow, the pokemon nodded - which was a feat in itself, since it was impossible to tell the head and body was a single amorphous blob.

[break][break] Obediently, Leo crouched down beside it and the pokemon leaped onto the boy's head. For a moment, he was stunned into silence. But when the pokemon's tiny teeth bit into his skull, Leo straightened up. "Pin," it said, and Leo blinked. He pointed at the fork in the road. "Right - ow, ow, okay, left?"

[break][break] When there was no piercing feeling in his skull, Leo decided that this was agreeable to the pokemon and he found himself walking down the path. They continued like this for several more minutes, until there was the familiar glow of a Pokemon Center in the distance. It was with that that the Pincurchin popped off his head and settled itself onto a nearby bench, seemingly on it's way.

[break][break] "Hey, wait - " Leo said, kneeling down in front of it. He offered his pokeball. "You helped me so much today. Won't you let me repay the favor?"

[break][break] The pokemon simply blinked back at him, but he could feel the judgement.

[break][break] "Er, I can buy you treats. They'll be real tasty."

[break][break] The pokemon seemed to find this acceptable, and allowed Leo to press a pokeball to it's spine.

[break][break] Who knew if it would really stick though? Maybe he'd change his mind at the last minute.

+ "Mama," he said with a huff, cellphone to his ear. "I promise. Everything's fine. I'm safe. Yeah, yeah, I will."

[break][break] Leo walked through the streets of Slateport, on his way back from elijah gardner 's flower shop, phone pressed to his ear. As was typical for him, he didn't pay attention to his surroundings, as he nursed on a popsicle that he had dropped by a convenience store to get, a banana-flavored treat that really hit the spot after he'd been forced to eat salad for dinner.

[break][break] Typical Eli! Always feeding him stupid healthy food.

[break][break] (But it had been kind of tasty. Not that he would admit it.)

[break][break] Behind him, there was the unsettling creaking of steel. The uneven flicker of a streetlamp. Metal even gleaned in the distance as a shadowy figure approached from behind him, and Leo was none the wiser. Before the thief could grab him, however, it seemed like there was a police officer in the distance that Leo tipped his headtoo. The man's steady glower shook off the thug that had been chasing Leo for the better half of a block, and Leo grinned as he passed. A few minutes later, there were a few other shady characters that seemed to be trailing him, and a gun-shot that sounded in the distance.

[break][break] Startled, Leo turned around. But when he turned around, the two thugs had also disappeared, chasing each other into the darkness of the night. The boy tilted his head, popsicle to his mouth. Strange. He thought he'd heard something.

Leo nodded to the other's words, but honestly, a lot of it went over his head. He personally didn't know if people could only wish for one thing at a time, and if that was true, then he'd been doing it all wrong!

[break][break] It was true, what Gil assumed though. Much of the ghosts that had been blocking his way down the shrine had gone onto bother other patrons, so maybe it really was because Leo had gone up and kidnapped his attention. Or maybe because the ghosts were avoiding Leo himself, who seemed to shine like the sun wherever he was. Or maybe it was all pure coincidence.

[break][break] Regardless, it wasn't like Leo himself noticed it any.

[break][break] He hopped down the second to last step, releasing his hold on Gil and then spinning around to face him. He grinned. "Nice 'ta meet 'cha, Gil! I'm Leo." Quickly, he glanced behind him, just to make sure that his mother wasn't in vicinity. Ooh, he would've gotten a scolding if that were the case. Luckily, she seemed preoccupied with the festivities.

[break][break] Leo led them over to an ice cream vendor, to which he handed him some dollar bills.

[break][break] "Oh, who is this handsome man?" The woman manning the booth cooed, eyes flickering over to gil hollis.

[break][break] The boy grinned. "This is my friend, Gil! I'm showin' him around, Maple. Here, keep the change."

[break][break] He broke apart a popsicle, and handed the other half to Gil.

[break][break] "Happiness? That's not silly!" He grinned wide. "I wished for the same too."

[break][break] It was something that his mama had always taught him to wish for, anyways, along with good health and properity. It might have seemed like a simple thing to some, but for a person like Leo, who grew up in a family like his — "I think it's a noble thing to wish for," he said. "Lots of people forget, when they're caught up in their busy lives. Or 'least that's what my mama told me."

[break][break] With that said, Leo attempted to swing an arm over the other's shoulder and lead them back down the steps of the shrine. "So how you liking the festivities? You from around here?"

[break][break] The tall, gangly boy was perched precariously on a ladder as he put the last of the lanterns up. Unsurprisingly, Leo had taken a large part in setting up the festivities, running from one end of the town to the other to complete various errands for his fellow neighbors and townfolk. His mother could be found in the food stalls, while his father was perched with the rest of the uncles, trying to encourage (read: goad) the tourists into spending money at the local festivities.

[break][break] "That's perfect!" the ginger-haired woman said, gazing up at the hanging lanterns with admiration as the boy leaped off the ladder and onto the safety of the floor. She offered him a handful of pokebucks, but he pushed it away. "No need, Aunt May," he said, but she pushed it into his hands anyway. "It's for good luck! Speaking of, you ought to go pay your respects before your mother has my behind!"

[break][break] The bespectacled boy gave a laugh at that and nodded. "Alright, alright."

[break][break] Obediently, he climbed up to the town's shrine and pressed his hands together, eyes closed, as he prayed. Well wishes for the new year, for his parents to be in prosperous health, and that he would beat angelo vestri next time the two met up in a game. It wasn't an often sight for Leo -- to be quiet -- but this was important. With the moment over, he looked to see a taller man beside him.

[break][break] He grinned at gil hollis . "So what'd you pray for?"

[break][break] Oh. Oops. Was it bad luck to ask? Oh well.
