Leaning on the railing Noelani allowed the rays of the sun to wash over him. The nice ocean breeze was enough to serve as a cooldown while he relaxed and waited. There had been a bit of a headache when he had woken up but by now it was already fading well enough to not be a bother or impair him too much.

Finally, a noise reached his ears and not too soon after that a woman passed by him, completely ignoring his presence for a moment. It seemed his host was awake but not fully yet. His amusement only grew as she started cursing with a variety that he was frankly impressed by. He never would have thought to do such a thing with a Starmie and a Huntail.

Deciding it was time to announce himself Noelani cleared his throat before speaking up “Need some help with that?” knowing that would have caught her attention he quickly went on “Yes you did in fact allow me on here yesterday and promised me a ride. We agreed on it over drinks. It was on your sixth or seventh shot you told me I could crash on the ship for the night.”

“Small time or upstarts don’t usually bother with planning or thinking things out. The ones that do and the truly terrifying ones usually don’t bother with such things or have other interests” was Noelani’s quick reply before he returned to picking up the last few bits of thrash around him.

Once he was done, he checked on the progress Aloha was making and could see that the bear was finished as well and was currently poking a Krabby that was angrily waving a claw at the normal type. Recalling his pokemon he turned towards where his starter was. She also had managed to clear a considerable part and was currently waving at the departing wild pokemon. Whistling to get her attention Noelani waved a hand for her to come over.

Stretching a bit, he gave an answer to the request the other man had posed “Sure I can do that no problem. After all it would be cruel to just tease you like that with the story and then leave you dry.” It had been sometime since he was on the island and there were a couple of other ones spread in the area as well but the alolan was still sure he could accurately pinpoint Juju Island.

Noelani quirked an eyebrow in interest “Ho, been to Hoenn before then? Has the city really changed that much? I’ve only recently come here so all I’ve seen of the city is how it is currently and can compare it only to the cities back in Alola.”

Rolling his shoulders a bit he couldn’t help to think that it was different here then Hau'oli City yet very much the same in some ways. Noelani eyed the Golbat that was hanging a bit away from them but since it didn’t make any moves, he decided to not bother it as long as it continued to ignore them.

“I can respect getting new companions. I’ve also been surprised by just how wide the variety has been and I haven’t even explored all that much yet the region. Don’t ask me why there are so many invasive species but it’s been a blessing to some degree.” said the alolan. He himself had gotten a few new ones since getting to Hoenn that had proved invaluable so far to him.

Aloha tried to imitate the game of pushing fingers into each other’s face but Noelani dissuade him with an amused shake of his head. The Bewear was trained well and nice but that didn’t mean he still didn’t forget his strength sometimes.

Patting the arm of the bear Noelani once more turned towards the older man “So want to go in and see what this place has to offer, should be interesting enough?”

Clearly, she wasn’t impressed with what Noelani had droned about but he wasn’t bothered by that and was ready to accept that some of his conclusion could be wrong. He wasn’t really going to apologize though since it that’s what he had seen so far from her. Her question though did make him snort in amusement and add a quick “Maybe.” he was after all a bit strange.

Noelani couldn’t deny that it was suspicious what he was doing but really, he didn’t have some grand goal when he had decided to follow her. It had been a whim that remained after she had proven interesting enough in his eyes. He did also look youthful but Noelani hadn’t actually been confused for a teenager before and was insure if he should be insulted or flattered by that.

“I can take care of myself pretty well and I’m confident enough to get out of any bind I could get into. I am also no less suspicious than you are. Also, I’ll be real with you I’ve been called creepy and overbearing before for being open and pushy. So, getting called suspicious is a new one. It has a gravitas to it that I can’t say I dislike.” He finished his rambling with an amused tone of voice but despite everything he was still taking things seriously and keeping an eye on the woman.

There was a slight shift in his posture as he observed her movements resulting in his back straightening and losing its relaxed slouch completely. It has been a hot minute since he had to shift into his shady work attitude but it seemed he couldn’t escape it. The alolan had wanted to take it easy a bit more but well she did decide to draw a gun on him, even if she hadn’t brandished it out yet.

Noelani simply shrugged his shoulders at her while his hands went to his pockets to preserve his relaxed image though one of said hands was hovering over a pokeball in preparation to release it. He did rise an eyebrow at her question before replying “I never said you weren’t dangerous. In fact, it was obvious that you were so no need to say it.”

The smirk that followed was all edges and teeth as the alolan added on “It seems you’ve dismissed me as not being dangerous though. So, I gotta ask as well. What makes you think Wikolia here hasn’t been gathering energy already and can bath the entire alley in fire before you could aim? This aint my first standoff ya know.”

As if to demonstrate the point he was trying to make a few flames escaped from the corners of the Vulpix’s mouth almost as a huff that dared them to test her.

A combo of the two works. Maybe a mesh of both suggestions of her team contacting him about the idea and then giving him some contact info after giving a preliminary agreement. Only briefly talking online or through messages before deciding a meeting in person would work out better for him and her to judge things.

The Cinderace was confidence as it dribbled the Pyro Ball towards the goal sure that Aloha his Bewear wouldn’t be able to stop it from scoring. Noelani had found himself into this impromptu match almost halftime ago while passing through Fiery Path. By now he was already sweaty tired and his leg singed despite the copious amounts of Soak and Life Dew both Octy and Morry had been applying.

He made for a sorry sight and it was probably why the Cinderace had dismissed him as a threat while moving pass him. That would be it’s undoing though because with his last bit of energy Noelani pulled of a magnificent sliding tackle. He would treasure the face of the rabbit forever as the young Scorbunny got the ball and managed to score.

Looking at it’s still fallen form Noelani threw the pokeball with a vindictive chuckle.

Ah it seemed Noelani had hit the threshold of tolerance and for the first time since they had met the woman turned towards him. Despite that he still couldn’t get a clear look at her face due to how dark it was. He still maintained his relaxed demeanor in spite of everything though that didn’t mean he wasn’t considering her question seriously.

Sensing that the atmosphere was shifting a bit Wikolia did return to stand next to the alolan eyeing the floating Solrock with disinterest but the message that displayed was clear. Noelani showed no reaction to that despite having an urge to grin at the sign of loyalty. She was one of his longest companions and the bond they shared was strong.

It was a serious moment and Noelani acknowledged it as such by taking his sunglasses off. He ran a hand through his currently white hair before finally locking his eyes with where he assumed hers were and speaking “Why? Because I want to and had nothing better to do when I walked into a random alley.”

He knew that was a dissatisfying answer but he wasn’t finished yet and as he prepared to continue his expression turned sharper and the grin in on his face took a more intense edge “But more importantly because of the way you walk with confidence and a purpose. Because you didn’t hesitate to head into such an alley, not only that but you actually feel at home in it. Because of the chip on your shoulder. Because with every movement I can see a story there. Because you did actually entertain talking with me and are fun to needle on so far. Because you are a mystery but most importantly when you combine all those things YOU. ARE. INTERESTING.”

Shrugging his shoulders, the shine of his eyes remained as he finished “And I do have a weakness for interesting things.”

Noelani simply gasped and put a hand to his mouth to exaggerate his surprise even more. The scene was made odder by the Emolga that had landed on his shoulder and was busy mimicking the alolan by putting its paw to its mouth and squeaking in surprise as well. Quickly he added “But we’ve been through so much already. Braved dark alleys, fought off scores of wild pokemon. We are even having banter that includes one of us being mean to the other. How could we not be friends or at the very least acquaintances by now.”

From his shoulder the Emolga simply nodded along as if it had been with them from the start and witnessed all of that as well. Something that made Noelani amused. The same amusement had also been evident in his tone when he had spoken to the woman making it obvious, he was just messing with her for the most part.

“Well yeah that’s why a name wouldn’t be as rude. Besides at this point It’s already too late for me to keep quiet so might as well double down on trying to engage you in conversation and win some of your favor.” was his other response to what she had said.

In that time the Emolga had still remained on his shoulder and due to that Noelani briefly switched his attention on it. Looking at the electric type he saw something and it was why he simply asked while bringing out a pokeball “Do you want a battle before I try and capture you or nah?"

It seemed the pokemon had seen something it liked as well because it just nodded before tapping the pokeball itself. Nodding his head if the capture was successful, he would then turn back towards his companion for the night.

Noelani gave an agreeable hum before saying “So far I can say that it has been. Though I’m also fresh as they can come, been only here for around a month or two so you could say I missed all the “excitement”. “

It was bit surreal to hear about all that had gone down but the alolan was nothing if flexible and rolled with it. Until it hit him in the face and forced him to do something, he was content with his position for now.

Hearing that there has been an influx of invasive of species and even normally it would be hard to guess did also reassure the alolan. It was good to hear that it wasn’t just his skills failing but things being a general mess. The info certainly helped with the dots too making Noelani nod in agreement “It would make sense if it wasn’t a local one. Not impossible but certainly much lower possibility then a new one moving in. Kinda reminds of the time my island got an influx of the Axew line.”

The new insight would definitely be helpful in shifting his outlook going forwards. It seemed things were picking up though as his temporary partner and his pokemon shifted towards the water. Maybe they were about to see what was targeting the pool.

Thankfully Noelani had already came prepared and with him were the pokemon he was planning to use so to there would be no need to use the PC. Still, he made sure to listen attentively to the receptionist and after she was done the alolan just nodded in understanding before speaking “Thank you sweetheart.”

Giving her a parting wink and small salute Noelani turned on his heel and walked towards the hall with his Vulpix hot on his heels. He gave his surroundings a glance but they appeared rather bland so there wasn’t much to see or get distracted with. The battlefield he found himself on was also very much the same. Maybe the gym leader just liked the sort of style.

Not caring too much about that Noelani gestured with his head towards the field. Giving a bark of confirmation Wikolia moved towards the center of it. She wasn’t left alone there and just as she arrived another pokemon materialized next to her from the pokeball the alolan had thrown. Stretching Makani looked around before turning to give Noelani a grin.

Rolling his eyes good naturally trainer could only say “Yeah, Yeah. I did promise after all.” making the Dragapult release a rasping chuckle before settling in. They were ready and now was left was for the challenge to start.

I’m interested in them meeting. Noelani is flexible enough as a meeting between them can range from a social thread, to capture thread or a mission. Location doesn’t matter too much but currently he is staying mostly at Slateport. Depending on what circles she runs in and how much she does for Silph a possible social thread could be a somewhat formal event/opening that would have required her presence or just interest on her part.

I do like the idea. Noelani is also in a very much noncommittal phase for now so it would fit and he would definitely find the scheme amusing. Garnering too much attention would probably grate on him somewhat but he can roll without it showing and it would be offset I figure by their interactions as well.

If we were to go ahead with it would we start off with them running into each other for the first time or leave it vague and go straight into a meeting of them trying to hash out a deal? He is based in Slateport and since picking up odd jobs and trying to set up a company tied around that he has spread around the city and surroundings areas, not famous but the possibility of running into him is there.
