Lounging around Noelani had given up on fishing at this point and instead settled for sitting around and entertaining Kala and giving out suggestion while she tried out a dancing routine that involved actively using Leaf Blade. The Bellossom had a frankly obsessive like for the move ever since she had learned it and tried to use it as much as possible. Oh, you need help with carrying things better try Leaf Blade. The list went on but well it’s not like he tried to stop her.

His musing was interrupted when a Slowking wandered into their spot, gathering the looks of everyone present. It simply stared back serenely and after a few minutes of not doing anything most of Noelani’s pokemon returned to doing their own thing. Well, Wikolia was still keeping an eye on him but that was just in the Vulpix’s nature to do so.

His starter was also keeping an eye on the wild pokemon in her own way. Which meant that she approached the now sat Slowking and roped him in as both a judge and helper in her Leaf Blade routine. It was this strange scene that both of his flying types returned to from their race. Not that he could blame them though after all currently the water type was using Swagger to demonstrate confident strutting to Kala that she then tried to mimic as best she could.

Chuckling Noelani just absentmindedly shrugged “Don’t think too hard about it.” And that was that. Soon the Slowking had just blended into their day of relaxation. It fished with Aloha, stared at Wikolia and then even played some cards with the Noelani to help him kill time. All in all, it proved to be a refreshing day.

Eventually the sun started to set and it was time to go though as Noelani was gathering his things he turned towards the Slowking and asked “Hey want to come with me? “

The psychic type pondered the question for a while till it finally shrugged its shoulders and made a thumbs up as best as it could with its claw. A chuckle escaped Noelani at the gestures before he approached the pokemon and touched it with an empty pokeball and that was that.

Networking was showing results that and just doing actual odd jobs to spread the name of the startup company Noelani had thought up and started both for the hell of it and also as a stable and legal source of income. Thieving can be fun but steady it was not. The alolan also wanted to stay off radar and not get involved by picking up smuggling again. This was also supposed to be a fresh start and a clean slate for him so why not go straight, totally not because nothing had caught his fancy that he wanted to take, nope.

Noelani was brought from his thoughts when the guy he was doing the current job with spoke up. Leaning on a tree bit further away the alolan simply glanced at Kala as the Bellossom idly spun and basked in the sun before answering “Yep Noelani Kekoa. As for what brought me here well a bit of the same as you. Needed somewhat of a fresh start and brake from home that and the thrill of exploring calling to me.”

Shrugging his shoulders his gaze moved towards the lake to watch a few magikarp move close to the surface of the water before continuing “Had to leave the family boat behind though, would have been useful around these parts.” Pausing he rubbed at his chin for a moment “By the way you having an inkling on what has been targeting the pool? I used to be good at connecting behavior to clues but well different region different habits of the Pokemon.”

He had seen some weird stuff while here that none of the pokemon back home would have done and also observed the opposite, pokemon he was used to doing one thing doing something completely different. Of course, Noelani was simply asking more so to kill time while they waited to see if the intruder would appear and target the pool again.

Noelani was surprised to see someone already in the hotel but he took it in stride and only blinked in response. Humming he turned to the other man “Ah you can say that yeah.” In a way he was just exploring even if there was a large goal to it of scouting out the building to see if he could repurpose it and use it for himself. There was no need to share that though especially with a complete stranger.

Of course, being personable as he was the alolan grinned as he moved towards the window “Thanks for the warning as well. Would have been a pain to enter if not for it, waste time as well.” despite speaking Noelani made sure to not get distracted as he moved towards and through the window. Aloha imitated his carefulness though the Bewear exaggerated his movements when he crossed the window, making for an amusing sight.

Noelani gave his pokemon an amused huff before turning towards the other man and asking “So what brings you here, just exploring? No offense because if so, it is a bit rare to see someone like you around these parts. Folks that roam here are usually more forlorn or shady looking.”

He didn’t want to be mean to those few normal people that made their home or passed through the outskirts but it was also true that it was more common to see the type he had mentioned instead. A tag on the wall caught the alolan’s attention briefly but he hadn’t seen it anywhere else so it was just some street artist trying things out then something darker. The messy scribble next to it that tried to imitate it clearly also spoke of a pokemon trying to paint. Noelani knew sometimes wild pokemon that lived in the city picked onto that habit.

Noelani spared a glance towards his starter noticing the Bellossom imperiously standing on top of Kingler as she directed wild pokemon in collecting all the trash they could see. She was getting frighteningly good at persuading other pokemon to help and the alolan wasn’t sure if he should be proud at how effective she was or worried.

Shaking the thought away Noelani instead focused on what his cleaning companion had said. It spoke of rich blood which would have made sense as to why their hotel was robbed but the fact there were no marks left after the robbery spoke volumes to him. It did also make him cringe inwardly because he was pretty sure he could remember Hanau bragging about readying up a big job and if he wanted in. He had declined at the time having got another focus but well now he knew what it was.

Still, what were the odds of meeting someone connected to that, chance could be weird like that sometimes. He made sure to reassure though “Well It’s good that it was just thieves at the very least. If it was some up start team they could’ve resorted to kidnapping or just tried cause more damage in general.”

Eyeing a bag of chips Noelani leaned down and put it away in the trash bag before speaking “Noelani Kekoa, a pleasure.” Pausing to rub at his chin in thought he would continue “As for the island it doesn’t really have an official name. Mostly because of superstition and having been left nameless on purpose. The hearsay is that supposedly the island carries some bad juju due to having been used to exile people on it leaving them to waste away. Some even say the murals were crafted by such a person yet no remains were found in the cave system. Funny enough though some of us do call it Juju Island due to that.”

Ah a bit of thrill seeker she was then. That was a good thing for Noelani since it meant chances were, she would leave a favorable review or at the very least not speak badly about the service. That would only benefit him in the long run in regards to the old man that had requested him and just spread his influence on the market so to speak.

Noelani totally wasn’t just distracting himself with such stray thoughts because he was worried about the flock of Skarmory passing next to the cab, nuh uh. If things weren’t already bad for his nerves then the frankly giant specimen of a Skarmory that emerged soundlessly next to him and Haku sure did a number on said nerves. The fact it just hovered in place next to them was not helping or the fact that Oya had closed in and was looking at the steel type with a glint Noelani recognized.

The Skarmory eyed them for a few more moments before giving a shriek that sounded like nails scraping on metal before continuing on and more importantly away from them. From all of that Chloe would have seen the bottom of the giant steel type and of course the noise it had made.

Not long after that the taxi would finally exit the ash cloud and reach the clear skies once more. It was only then after recovering a bit from his shock that Noelani would respond back to Chloe “You are right, it could have been way worse. Should be clear skies from here on. Which means in around half an hour we’ll be there.”

Realistically they could have been there way sooner but Noelani decided on a more sedate pace after the last bit of excitement they had. The ride after that would be indeed smooth with the only other thing in the sky besides the taxi and his Talonflame being scattered flying types passing on a respectable distance.

After the said half an hour passed Rustboro would indeed become visible. Circling above the city Noelani would finally pick up a good spot where to land. It was a park close enough to the pokemon center that didn’t have as many people so it shouldn’t be a problem to land. It might catch a bit of attention but that was okay with the alolan.

Once they were on land Noelani would dismount Haku and move to open the door of the taxi. The somewhat ash covered appearance of the woman did make his lips twitch into a grin but before it could take over his face he quickly gestured with flourish and spoke “Welcome to Rustboro, Hope you enjoyed the ride.”

Before they could part ways Noelani made sure to slip Chloe both his and the business card of the taxi company. He did also remain long enough for some small talk but soon he would need to fly back, after all there were a few more trips he had to make so his time was limited.

Noelani had no idea how he had managed to find himself in the current position. He had been just exploring the town not even wearing a disguise or something eye-catching when he had somehow been caught in the whirlwind of insanity and dragged along. He had walked along almost in a daze and in the chaos of it had just blended in, no one giving him more than a glance at best. Somehow a grumpy old lady had seen him not doing anything and then threw a rag at his head while pointing at the window.

That’s how he currently found himself wiping the window alongside his starter. The Bellossom was diligently working on the lower side while he handled the higher parts. It was too late to back out now though so he would just clean the windows and then get out of here. Yeah, that was what he would do. Wasn’t going to pass through the kitchen though for sure, it had been giving out an ominous feeling for a while now and walking there spelt nothing good.

Not that where he was in the living room was any better. Noelani swore he could actually feel the math calculations coming from the table where a bunch of weirdos were playing some sort of game. It was so intense he was actually breaking into sweat and had the weird desire to issue duels and banish people to the shadow realm for some reason.

Focus on cleaning the windows, just focus and it would be done was being chanted like a mantra in his head. Now if that freaking black mold would actually come off it would be perfect. Frustration was building as he increased the pace of his scrubbing at it. Kala was having a similar problem as well with her corner so he quietly muttered to her “Unfortunately you can’t Leaf Blade the window to remove it.”

That just made the Bellossom grumble in displeasure and him nod in understanding as they returned to cleaning the windows.

So far Noelani wasn’t having luck fishing anything out though he wasn’t in a hurry and well the day was more for relaxation then seriously trying to fish. It seemed Aloha had more luck as something got caught on his rod. The Bewear pulled but whatever was stuck refused to budge and strained the fishing rod.

Obviously his pokemon didn’t like that and while it didn’t show on his face Noelani could tell Aloha had taken that as a challenged and began channeling his great strength in trying to pull out what ever had been caught. He heaved once, then again and on the third time Noelani could see the Bewear was also using Strength to augment himself when pulling.

That proved to be overkill though as with a splash a pokemon rocketed from the water and into the air while the rod Aloha was using broke at the base. What landed on the ground next to them was revealed to be a Mareanie. It seemed the hook had wedged on its spikes and it was obviously angry at being pulled out of the water. Though its rage quickly bled out once it took stock of its surrounding.

A rather large spread-out group of pokemon eyeing one would do that to a pokemon. Taking pity on it Noelani took out a bit of food and placed it a few feet away from him as a peace offering. The Mareanie eventually took it while grumbling before walking away from the group, no doubt planning to enter the water as far away from them as possible.

Noelani had to resist the urge to respond that it was his first time flying a taxi as well but while it could have been a bit amusing it was far more likely to panic the woman. It just wasn’t worth it in the end and instead he gave out his name in response to her introduction “I’m Noelani Kekoa your designated driver for this hopefully smooth ride.”

After that they would begin the flight in earnest, making good time though it seemed the alolan might have jinxed them somewhat with his previous statement. The wind had been steadily building in strength but oddly only in one direction, appearing unnaturally focused. Noelani could also spot in the distance a cloud though it was too grey and considering there were no other clouds in the sky he assumed it must be ash from the nearby volcano.

From the way it was moving Noelani could guess it would intercept them. That meant he could either take a massive detour, land and wait it out or pass through it. Pondering for a short moment he decided that it was probably worth the risk to just brave it. Adjusting the goggles on his face he talked into his walky-talky. “Alright we’ll have to pass through the ash cloud so don’t open any windows and make sure to sit tight, it’ll probably get a bit bumpy as we fly through.”

As soon he was done saying that he would adjust the scarf that he wore until it was covering his mouth and nose after that he would warn Haku of his plan. Not too long after that they would reach and enter the ash cloud. The winds were a bit stronger there forcing the ash to hit the cab and as result the contraption shook a bit back and forth.

Now that would have been fine and all but sadly Noelani could also currently see for shit. Before he signaled the corviknight that they had to indeed land after all Oya came through for them. The embers that constantly emitted from her feathers sprang into actual flames making the whole Talonflame come alight. Her orange glow turned her into a beacon and allowed Noelani to see her amidst the grey cloud of ash.

With a shriek Oya flapped her wings and flew towards their destination. Grinning under his scarf Noelani simply muttered “Atta girl” before taping Haku on his back and making him follow his other pokemon.

They almost came under another danger when a Skarmory flying through the cloud as well scraped the cab. Thankfully it was a young one and it only left a scratch instead of shredding the taxi. Soon the reason to why it was flying through the cloud became obvious as more and more Skarmory became visible due to passing close enough to the taxi. It seemed a flock of them had gathered alongside their young and were using the cloud as cover while flying.

He was back here on route 103 but this time Noelani wasn’t exploring the forest part of the area though he did plan to visit the temple and see what the priestess was up to and if repairs were underway already. Instead, today the alolan had decided to just relax by the coastline as far away from the conventual spots and where the people were and do some fishing. It was fun pastime he indulged sometimes and seeing as he wouldn’t be doing much, he had also released the pokemon that he had on him as well so they could join in the relaxation.

They were all spread around him. Haku and Oya were both currently busy circling above him and clearly about to fly off for an impromptu race. Noelani trusted them enough that they wouldn’t go too far away or at the very least will be quick in returning. Aloha his Bewear was next to him also with simple fishing pole which made for an amusing sight. Not far from Noelani was also Kala his starter and Wikolia longing in the grass. The vulpix was clearly keeping an eye on the water though just in case some Lotad decided to prank her again, much like one had attempted to do half an hour ago.

Knowing how to handle a customer and in general currently not minding holding a conversation Noelani simply nodded his head and went into a brief explanation “Yeah from what I hear they are all the rage in Galar and with recent relaxation of exchange people have been trying to bring them over here. It’s still a start up business at least this variant on its own. Usually, they try to combine methods with the Alolan variant and a few homebrew saddles or methods of transporting.”

Having done brief research on the matter had definitely helped Noelani and it also gave him things to drone about just in case so there wasn’t awkward silence. More so because he did have to maintain some professionalism and not be too much of himself at least for now. Getting their destination, the alolan just gave a hum of confirmation before he busied himself with the final touches of preparing.

Once done he made his way to the door and leaned in to explain a few things “Alright this is the mandatory safety lecture. Try to keep yourself in the cabin at all times, don’t lower the windows too much or stick your hands out. Moving is also not advised as it would shake the cabin and make it harder on Haku to hold on to it and fly correctly. There is also chance we might have to land if we encounter a freak storm or something but those should be rare enough. That’s should be all. If you don’t have any questions I’ll go and get on Haku and we can take off.”

Noelani would wait for a few moments to get a response and if there were no questions climb the cabin and then mount his Corviknight. Before they could take off the alolan took out a pokeball and released Oya his Talonflame as well. She would act as an extra guide and protection should things go sideways. It never hurt to be prepared after all.

Having talked to his pokemon before hand he just needed to nod after releasing her before signaling for Haku to take off. Steadily they began to rise in the air at a slow pace with the city turning smaller and smaller under them. Couldn’t go too high though and after a few moments Haku would start heading in the direction of Rustboro City.

In case they needed to communicate while in the air though there was a walky-talky in the cabin with the woman that connected to a headset one Noelani had on. That way if she had questions or wanted to make small talk, he would be able to respond.

Walking along the street Noelani rubbed his chin in thought as he considered his options. People around were giving him the odd glance though probably because of the pink T-shirt, the sunglasses and glaringly fake mustache on his face. That or the Beware that was trudging behind him, one of the two really. What he was thinking about though was which one of the two abandoned buildings not far from here he should visit.

One of them was a small two-story hotel and the other was bar with strip club though it was only one story high so he wondered where they put said strip club. Well, both of them where down this alley so he did have some time to decide towards which one he would head. To be fair though he was leaning towards the bar for now.

With a shrug he turned and headed right into the alley. He saw a few pokemon skitter away but nothing exactly caught his eyes so he soldiered on. Before long he was standing in front of the hotel and idly eyed it. It wasn’t that rundown but it definitely gave out the creepy feeling with a few broken windows and the graffiti on the walls. He doubted anything beyond pokemon made its home and who knew how bad it was inside as well but the place did have potential. Maybe he should check out this hotel instead of the bar. There was always next time for it after all.
