Sweaty and getting a bit tired Noelani nonetheless got to directing the group of wild pokemon that had been left with him. Having been inside Octy was great help in giving them suggestions on where they should focus on when dousing the flames with either water attacks or the odd mud related ones. The priestess had also moved back towards him and was currently inspecting the pile of items he had managed to drag out of the temple.

Picking up the book next to him he stretched out his arms and called out “I suppose you are looking for this?”

The moment he said that the girl quickly turned and then swiped the old tome out of his hand before hugging it possessively and muttering a “Thank God”. He couldn’t resist the chuckle before saying “So I was right on it being valuable eh?”

He only got a nod in answer but that didn’t deter the alolan and instead he continued “Well we’ve taken out most things and the flames won’t last very long so hey look on the bright side. The temple is saved.”

Noticing the pooling of tears in the girl’s eyes and quite sniffles that began to escape her Noelani could only awkwardly pat her shoulder in assurance. Not being comfortable in comforting crying people he could only awkwardly ramble on “It shouldn’t be too hard to repair the temple afterwards. It even seemed pretty abandoned so this will insure not only funds for repair but some popularity as well. Win, Win I say.”

It had the opposite effect of calming the priestess and her crying grew stronger only making the alolan grimace as they watched the flames finally get taken care of. Not wanting to stay too long after that less he also got hugged for his efforts Noelani shuffled away to giver space to the girl and to check on the kid. It was not an excuse to get away, no sir.

Moving towards the other trainer he could only throw out “Nice job kid.” Before stopping next to him and giving the boy a once over to see if he was alright. Turning his attention away and back to the temple Noelani spoke up “Well that should take care of things. I’ll be honest I’m surprised how well you kept your cool as well. We did pretty well overall thanks to that and it’ll only need repairs instead of it burning down complete.”

Pausing Noelani used the moment to rub his chin in thought before speaking once more “Shame we don’t know who did it though. Probably some punks or a wild fire type but I aint no detective and the urge to find out isn’t too big. You think you’ll be looking into this kid?”

It seemed the wait was over as their customer finally arrived. Putting on his customer service expression of polite acceptance and a relaxed smile on his face Noelani waved at the approaching woman. He had to resist the snort of amusement as he saw Haku lean in the touch of the woman as she pet him, that little suck up. Still, he waved off her thanks and corrected her “Don’t worry about it sweetheart. We are from the city so it wasn’t much of a trip to get here.”

Still, gesturing with his head for her to follow Noelani moved a bit to the side where a contraption that resembled a miniature cab without the wheels sat and gathered looks from nearby people. Unlike its galar variant the booth/cab had more of a sleek look to it with smooth lines and over all appearing somewhat more rounded. Moving to it’s back he opened its compact trunk and gestured towards it. “We can put the baggage here.”

Of course, he also moved back and offered to take her bags and put them in himself as he probably should. In the meantime, Haku with a short flap of his wings had moved on the stand on top of the cab and was making himself comfortable. Noelani turned his attention towards the woman once more and asked “Alright then I need to finishing setting up Haku up there and you could get in and take a seat but before that and the required safety lecture, why don’t tell me where we’ll be heading to?”

While he waited for her answer Noelani went through the required safety check before moving on setting the saddle onto his Corviknight.

Having left behind most of possessions when coming to Hoenn meant that Noelani found himself doing the oddest jobs and just grabbing opportunities in general as well. Not what he usually liked to do but at least most things ended up amusing and interesting enough to not distract him too much. Hell, he had even gone as far to make cards that had “Odd Job Workers” printed on them that he had started hanging out to people. The company wasn’t exactly made yet and well all four employees it had were technically all him under various disguises but he was liking the idea of it. He knew an abandoned building he could claim for the company hq that and well it could serve as good front and alibi later on.

Of course, the reason Noelani was thinking about that more because he had taken a job and was currently waiting for a customer. It was actually the card paying dividends already as he had been contacted by a local pokemon taxi services to help. The owner only had a few pokemon good enough to ferry people and one of the corviknights had fallen ill. Now that wouldn’t have been a problem but only having three dedicated flyers it meant they couldn’t cover for the ill pokemon. That’s where he came in and why he had been called. It would be up to him and Haku his corviknight to carry the client.

Noelani had flown extensively before and had also made sure to study the map of Hoenn but the weather was a mystery to him and well sometimes you need a trial by fire so to speak.

Standing before Slateport gym Noelani gave a small stretch before speaking to his partner “I know we talked about it but you ready for today Wikolia?”

The Vulpix immediately responded with an offended bark prompting him to only chuckle, yeah she was ready. Ever since coming to Hoenn the gym circuit had been on his mind and after getting acquainted with the city he decided it was time to try and challenge the local gym. He heard rumors it had been closed for period of time but after a call Noelani had been able to sign up well enough so maybe that period had ended or at least they were open to some challenges.

Deciding he had wasted enough time with stray thoughts the alolan just gave a nod to his pokemon before entering the gym proper. Looking around the lobby his eyes quickly zeroed onto the receptionist desk and the woman standing behind it. Seeing as the gym required proper identification, he had come without gumming it up with weird disguises and eye-catching clothes. He was even using his proper name and id, which was squeaky clean despite his past.

Walking confidently Noelani removed the sunglasses from his face before leaning on the counter and smiling at the woman behind it. “Hi there, I’m here for the gym challenge. My sign up should be under Noelani Kekoa.” He finished by taking out his id so she would be able to check it. All that was left was to get a confirmation and then get on to the challenge proper. Anticipation was already starting to build inside him at the prospect.

Humming Noelani continued to pick discarded bottles of soda a part of him wondering why so many of them were buried in the sand when there was a trashcan not so far away. Though in a way he also shouldn’t after all he was pretty sure part of it was laziness. Not wanting to get bogged down in that train of thought he instead listened to what the other man was saying.

Nodding his head in understanding Noelani just said “You are lucky and should be thankfully of your guide. A lot of tourists get swindled out of everything was even a bigger problem a few years back but it’s been better. Unfortune about the robbery though I am curious did the robbers get away or leave any marks?”

Returning briefly to pick out a few buds of cigarettes he quickly continued “Anyways I would agree it is surreal if not even a bit creepy. Though since you are interested in this type of things, I’ll give you a suggestion if you ever go visit again. A few kilometers off Poni Island is a smallish island. Not a lot on it but most interesting thing is the cave system it has and the hand carved murals on the walls.”

Noelani was still catching his breath but he made sure to keep an eye on Aloha just in case. Thankfully the Bewear was being accommodating and listening to the directions he was being given, not that he was rowdy or anything just acted odd sometimes. Slicking his soaked hair back the alolan released a breath and prepared himself for one more trip inside the temple.

Constant Soaks were being dropped on him as he moved through the burning structure until he reached one of the personal rooms that was relatively untouched from the fire still. Looking around to see what he would need to take Noelani was thankful for his experience as a thief. The reason being that it allowed him to pick out the things with the most value either monetary or sentimental.

Grabbing a near by bag he filled it with all he could before picking the rest of them in his arms even Octy stretched out one of his tentacles to hold a small book. The Octillery did have to hold it out a bit so it didn’t get hit by the Soaks. Lost of breath and struggling to not just cough out his lungs Noelani finally made it outside. Swiftly dropping the bag, he greedily took gulps of fresh air. He would probably need to have Morry apply a few Life Dews after this and also see a doctor in case of damages but he should be alright.

Not too soon after that from the trees returned Kala and it seemed the Bellossom had been successful in her endeavor to gather help from some wild pokemon. The group that followed her consisted from a Golduck, two Poliwhirl, a Quagsire and a Ludicolo leading a few Lombre and Lotad. Widening his eyes at the sheer amount of pokemon Noelani hoped his starter hadn’t offered too much for their help.

The wild pokemon would also need steering though and with grunt the alolan straightened himself and approached the group “Alright as my partner has no doubt shared, we need help in putting out the fire but to be most effective in that it might be best to split up. I would ask at least half to go towards the two other humans and help the trainer out.”

Noelani made sure to point towards the kid to accent his point of who the trainer was. Nodding their head in understanding a Quagsire and the Ludicolo with its group split off and headed off to the other side to join the kid. Hopefully the other trainer would be able to handle them. All that was left was handling the flames and maybe dragging a few more things from the outside of the temple.

It seemed steering it towards the Golisopod had worked pretty well making Noelani release a satisfied hum. The bug type pretty much went to town after that ensuring that the fight wouldn’t be lasting much longer. Giving a nod towards Lulu in agreement he would then command Wikolia “You heard the lady, let’s finish this.”

With a bark of agreement, the Vulpix charged the injured Talonflame. Noticing another attacker, the bird shifted its attention and attempted to use Acrobatics. It managed to clip the Vulpix but in response she only blasted it with Fire Blast. The force of the attack knocked the bird on the ground momentarily but before it could get back up Wikolia had pounced on it’s back. With a cry she unleashed Inferno on to the Talonflame. While it didn’t do as much damage due to it’s typing the attack did succeed on keeping the other pokemon on the ground.

On the third Inferno from the Vulpix the Talonflame slumped in surrender stopping it’s struggling and letting out a cry of defeat. That prompted Wikolia to triumphantly bark and puff out her chest even as the pokeball Noelani threw hit the other fire type. It made her stumble as the body it disappeared which prompted a chuckle out of the alolan as he waited for the capture to complete.

Once it was done and if successful Noelani would stretch a bit and mutter “Well that was fun.” Once he and Lulu were both done wrapping up things and preparing to part, he would throw a two-finger salute towards the woman “See ya around. Hopefully next time we meet it’s not in a dark and creepy place eh?”

“Hey it’s not a conspiracy when they are really out to get you.” was Noelani own response accompanied by a brief chuckle. Though he was pretty sure the saying went with paranoia but whatever the meaning was clear enough.

Still, it was time for action so the alolan simple nodded his head in agreement after all it would indeed be better to take out the talonflame first. Speaking of it after the brief clash with Lulu’s Golisopod it was now flying high above them. Which only annoyed his Vulpix and since due to being a fire type herself she knew how prideful they could get that’s why she launched a Fire Blast towards the bird despite knowing that the chance to hit were low.

The talonflame indeed didn’t need to move too much to dodge it but the attack had done its job as a challenge. With a shriek and powerful flaps of its wings to gather more height the Talonflame was then enveloped in energy before diving down towards Wikolia. It became rapidly apparent it was using Brave Bird.

The collision with his Vulpix was imminent but Noelani only grinned as he uttered his command “Use Disable.” And with a vindictive bark Wikolia fired off the beam of energy hitting the talonflame and bringing it out of its attack. The bird still slammed into the vulpix but was nowhere near as damaging as it would have been otherwise. Rolling away from the hit the Wikolia fired off a Flamethrower but it wasn’t aimed directly at the other pokemon instead trying to redirect it and have it move closer towards Lulu’s Golisopod.

Damn crazy woman, it was the Akale island thing all over again. What sane person thinks setting the building on fire makes for nice date, probably the same kind that also thinks going back to retrieve measly relics from a burning temple is a normal thing. Noelani swore he had the worst luck sometimes.

Grumbling and swearing a bit under his breath the alolan returned to the temple his pokemon with him. Octy had started reapplying Soak more frequently now and breathing was starting to get a chore but no had to save the relics so the crazy girl doesn’t go and die. Pointing towards a statue Noelani ordered Aloha to pick it up and drag it outside while he himself took a few charms and a smaller statue in hand.

On his second trip back, he delved a bit further inside coughing and waving smoke away from his face. Looking around he found a compact shrine like box with a crystal sitting inside of it. It looked valuable enough but Noelani was currently more pissed and concerned with other thoughts to even think about taking it for himself even if might have been tempting to do so. Octy hit him with another wave of Soak as he bent down to pick it up. It was getting too hot to hold thing but thankfully his Octillery was resourceful enough and fire off a low powered Ice Beam that grazed it. It lowered its temperature and even didn’t damage it too much, hopefully.

Spitting at the ground and scrunching his face he turned to see how the kid was progressing. So far it seemed the crazy woman was directing him well enough. The fire was still picking up speed meaning they need more back up but if people hadn’t come yet that meant they were none close enough. Clicking his tongue in displeasure he quickly released his starter “Kala start heading towards the water while using Sweet Scent and try to gather and talk into helping us as many of the wild pokemon you can. Promises them food or whatever as long as they help.”

Seeing the situation at hand and not need much prompting the Bellossom just saluted and dashed into the trees with a sweet aroma already emitting from her.

Catching his breath for a few moments Noelani returned to the temple and him and the Bewear managed to save a few more valuables. Upon his third run it was starting to get almost unbearable inside the building so once he was outside the alolan spent a few moments just coughing and resting his hands on his knees. “Go help the kid with lifting stuff Aloha while I rest up a bit, Okay?”

The Bewear made a rumble of agreement and trudged off to offer help with the heavier stuff. Still Noelani shouted out a warning “Hey kid my Bewear is coming to help out. Just point him and he’ll listen.”

Though it seemed she grew annoyed when he mentioned relocating the nests themselves but that’s what he had been told so Noelani just shrugged his shoulder before speaking “It’s what the job said not that I care too much. Mostly cause between you and me I think someone just lifted the job from the ranger center and didn’t bother to have it be adjusted. Probably want to one up the rangers or just looking for the cred of doing said job without putting any real work.”

Nodding absentmindedly towards Lulu due to not wanting to take his eyes off the nest guardian he said “Sure I don’t mind, their selling price isn’t too bad, pretty popular in Galar in recent years, Unova too.”

Wikolia was already stepping confidently forward and let out a challenging cry making the talonflame shriek back in response and spread its wings and take off from its position. Taking that as acceptance the Vulpix fired off a Flamethrower though the flying type easily evaded the attack. The battle was about to start in earnest so before it did Noelani threw in towards Lulu “Want to tag team it or should I distract it while you go get the eggs?”

Depending on her answer he would decide how the approach the fight in the meantime his own pokemon was doing a good enough job of distracting the talonflame and trading attacks with it.

Her responses before he had to deal with the corviknight were amusing but Noelani was also an old hand at getting people riled up and annoying them. It’s why he knew he was pushing it a bit but hey at least she hadn’t pulled a knife on him yet, man that had been one weird date. Shaking off the memory he instead turned to see Wikolia ominously glaring at an Electrike.

It had obviously seen the previous fight the vulpix had with the corviknight because as soon as she released a few embers from her mouth the electric type was booking it away from them. Snorting in amusement in sync with his pokemon Noelani once more turned his attention towards Lulu.

His face settled into a small grin before he spoke “Well so far you haven’t and I doubt you will. Though getting a name wouldn’t be the worst thing. It might be a bit rude to call you Hoody or other appearance related Nicknames all the time after all.”
