OPEN DUO WILD: STEEL / ELECTRIC

they passed by the night market on a dimly lit street, eventually cutting down an alleyway to nowhere in particular, in search of pokemon. lulu had her hood over her head, the cherry of her cigarette glowing in the dark like the red eyes of the solrock which followed over her shoulder.

once upon a time, she had taken this same walk with weezing, in search of steel-types. she passed by the same trash can, recalling the scolding she'd given it. she gritted her teeth and kept walking, staring more at her feet than at the urban path in front of her, dropping her alertness for just a moment.

He had gone out tonight to see the sights and what the lower district of Slateport could offer. Though he couldn’t help himself and had pickpocketed the wallets and money of a few snooty people that had turned their nose at him. Though they could have done so because of his currently obviously dyed white hair and the fact that he was wearing sunglasses out at night.

If that was the case it would mean they wore working as he had intended and drawing attention away from his actual facial feature. So maybe he shouldn’t have robbed those people due to his disguise working. Mah too late now.

Running a hand through his hair he stepped into an alley as it was better to get off the main streets for a while and well alleys were fun to explore. A huff and a few motes of embers escaped Wikolia as she walked next to him the Vulpix clearly knowing what he was thinking and just having a general displeasure at having to walk in back alley filth.

Chuckling Noelani got out from his pocket the stolen wallets and started emptying them of useful content before throwing them away. That meant he wasn’t paying exact attention to where he was going and since his partner decided to not warn him he collided with a person. Stumbling a bit his elbow would fall on a trash can making a dull sound.

Focusing his eyes on the person in a hoodie he would be quick to speak “Whoa, Sorry about that.”

while solrock typically would have saved lulu from such an impact, it seemed distracted by something in the corner of the alley. everything happening at the right moment, and boom.

it was enough to knock the breath out of her for a moment. a hand came up to hold her shoulder briefly—one which had suffered a bullet-wound two months prior. she gritted her teeth, a momentary fire rising in her, but smoothing over as quickly as it came.

“it’s fine.” she said sharply, jerking away from the stranger. she had never been one to apologize for things like this. she wouldn’t start now, no matter how mellowed out she’d seemed to have become lately. still the same, cold lulu where it counted.

before she could turn and walk off, the source of her solrock’s distraction became clear. a pachirisu was growing an ELECTRO BALL, staring menacingly at the small group seeming to have gathered where it wanted to be. lulu’s toes turned towards the electric-type and she placed herself between it and the rest, reaching to her belt to grab blaziken’s pokeball, and releasing the blaze pokemon.

just as the pachirisu’s attack was sailing towards them, blaziken used COUNTER to send it back, knocking the rodent into the wall behind it, where it sat for a moment, unable to move.

lulu reached into a pocket and threw a pokeball.

While their collision had made him stumble it wasn’t that forceful so Noelani’s eyebrow did twitch a bit upwards when he saw the woman reach for her shoulder, how intriguing. Not to be deterred by her demeanor and response he was quick to grin and say “Mahhh maybe but now I feel bad about it and want to make up for it.”

He was gumming it up a bit though not that he had the chance to layer more on before they were interrupted by an angry pachirisu. An appreciative whistle escaped him when the hooded woman released a Blaziken and he did notice Wikolia perk up a bit at seeing the other fire type.

His attention was briefly grabbed by noise coming from the side and near the trash can he had hit so Noelani briefly turned his head that way to see what was causing the noise. Seeing the alolan Sandshrew was a surprise but he didn’t feel like catching it so he made a shooing motion with his hand while his Vulpix let out a warning growl, clearly displeased at having to divert her attention. The wild Pokémon didn’t need more of incentive to run away after that.

Turning back the alolan caught the tail end of the fight seeing the pachirisu get knocked back by its own attack. Once everything was resolved he would turn to woman and address her before she decided to walk off on her own. “Now about me making it up to you, I doubt you’ll agree to me treating you something so how about instead we go on an adventure and explore the alleys together!”

He made sure to wiggle his eyebrows a bit after saying that though he doubted it would have been seen too clearly. Well to be fair even if she said no Noelani would follow after her to pester her in general, after all he had nothing better to do and she seemed interesting enough.

what a joker. who bumped into someone in a dark alleyway and then introduced themselves? what was visible of her face beneath her shadowy hood made no effort to conceal her bewilderment.

she gave a moment’s pause and then shook her head. “what makes you think i don’t have somewhere to be?” she then turned, her boots clacking on the ground again as she walked in the other direction. “kinda creepy, innit?”

her voice echoed back to him. she was hardly intimidated, however, and to prove it, she recalled the blaziken back to its pokeball.

a klang then appeared out of the corner of her eye, the sheen of its metal catching her attention in the dark. it seemed nonthreatening, its gears turning as it stared at the group. with great aim, she threw a pokeball at it, the steel-type disappearing into it and rolling on the ground. she waited, a bit excitedly.

A gasp escaped Noelani as he clutched at his heart with both hands “Creepy? That hurts to be called as such. My poor, poor self-esteem might never recover from the blow.” ever being the straight man his Vulpix flicked her tails at his leg as soon as he said that before wandering a bit off to the side.

Not to be deterred though the Alolan continued with a shrug of his shoulders and answered the woman’s question even if she didn’t expect a response “Well people that have somewhere to be don’t usually roam dark alleys…. Unless they are up to something unsavory.”

He made sure to pause and gasp dramatically again while putting a hand to his mouth before adding “Should I be fearing for my chastity right now?”

Noelani was going a bit more ham then usual but it was good to test out the boundaries of how far he could push it that and maybe a tiny bit of him wanted to annoy the hooded woman a bit.

He was once more distracted though when the alley was somewhat bathed in orange light. With an amused sigh Noelani turned his head only to see Wikolia firing a Flamethrower up in the sky. It wasn’t aimless though because it clipped and at the same time illuminated a Corviknight. Of course, she managed to pick a fight in such a short amount of time Noelani wasn’t keeping an eye on her.

Diving the Corviknight opened its beak and warbled out a Metal Sound making both the Vulpix and Noelani himself wince at the screech. Once it was close enough the bird’s wing glowed white while it aimed to hit Wikolia with Steel Wing which prompted the vulpix to spit out a Fire Spin making the other pokemon stop in its tracks.

Noelani didn’t have to tell his pokemon to be on guard trusting her to know better, she always has been one of his more battle orientated pokemon. They didn’t have to wait long before the Corviknight bust from the wall of flames with the telltale signs of Brave Bird only to be met with a Fire Blast to its’ face. The confined space of the alley worked in their favor having not allowed the steel type to gather speed meaning the hit it had just eaten was enough to knock it off from its attack.

Not wasting time Wikolia spat out a Flamethrower at the bird and as soon as she cut off the attack Noelani threw a pokeball in order to try and capture the Corviknight.

If he managed to get it, he would then quickly make to catch up to the hooded woman his amused voice piping up once more “Also Miss Hoody with your get up and the Solrock ominously hovering behind you are by far the creepier looking from the two of us. It does have its charm though.”

“keep at it and i’ll make you fear for something.” she called back, still not turning, and even shoving her hands in her pockets casually after she’d stowed away her catch in her backpack.

she’d expected the corviknight to take care of him, but lo and behold, the screeching eventually stopped, and they’d caught up with her again. the vulpix caught an intrigued glance from over her shoulder, but they received little else in terms of recognition.

she was bristling a little. an aron ahead occupied most of her attention, however. it, like the last, did not look extremely threatening, but still looked to have a bit more bite. ‘help me with this one.’ her inner thoughts compelled the solrock to deliver HYPNOSIS to the aron, rising and looking into its eyes, sending it into a slumber. lulu tossed another pokeball at it.

“i lose my charm quickly.” she assured.

Her responses before he had to deal with the corviknight were amusing but Noelani was also an old hand at getting people riled up and annoying them. It’s why he knew he was pushing it a bit but hey at least she hadn’t pulled a knife on him yet, man that had been one weird date. Shaking off the memory he instead turned to see Wikolia ominously glaring at an Electrike.

It had obviously seen the previous fight the vulpix had with the corviknight because as soon as she released a few embers from her mouth the electric type was booking it away from them. Snorting in amusement in sync with his pokemon Noelani once more turned his attention towards Lulu.

His face settled into a small grin before he spoke “Well so far you haven’t and I doubt you will. Though getting a name wouldn’t be the worst thing. It might be a bit rude to call you Hoody or other appearance related Nicknames all the time after all.”

lulu had made a step towards the elektrike before the vulpix scared it off around a corner. she blew air out of her nose haughtily and reached for a cigarette from her pocket.

“i’m not telling you my name. we’re not friends.”

she swiped a match, which illuminated her face in a momentary glow and then died down. after giving herself a light, she shook it out and tossed it to the side of the alley. “feels rude of you to call me anything.” she countered.

it was then that a ferroseed appeared in front of her. she tossed another pokeball at it, watching it rock on the ground. her haul was growing quickly today.

Noelani simply gasped and put a hand to his mouth to exaggerate his surprise even more. The scene was made odder by the Emolga that had landed on his shoulder and was busy mimicking the alolan by putting its paw to its mouth and squeaking in surprise as well. Quickly he added “But we’ve been through so much already. Braved dark alleys, fought off scores of wild pokemon. We are even having banter that includes one of us being mean to the other. How could we not be friends or at the very least acquaintances by now.”

From his shoulder the Emolga simply nodded along as if it had been with them from the start and witnessed all of that as well. Something that made Noelani amused. The same amusement had also been evident in his tone when he had spoken to the woman making it obvious, he was just messing with her for the most part.

“Well yeah that’s why a name wouldn’t be as rude. Besides at this point It’s already too late for me to keep quiet so might as well double down on trying to engage you in conversation and win some of your favor.” was his other response to what she had said.

In that time the Emolga had still remained on his shoulder and due to that Noelani briefly switched his attention on it. Looking at the electric type he saw something and it was why he simply asked while bringing out a pokeball “Do you want a battle before I try and capture you or nah?"

It seemed the pokemon had seen something it liked as well because it just nodded before tapping the pokeball itself. Nodding his head if the capture was successful, he would then turn back towards his companion for the night.
