And he is clumsy with the sword, swinging and hacking but not quite cutting his enemies down. Force will compensate what he lacks in skill, his will still the mightiest blade he wields on this maddening battlefield. And she watches him closely, her dagger pointing in the direction of those that try to sneak up on Navy from his blind spots as she commands lightning to strike them down without mercy.[break][break]

"Follow him!"[break][break]

At her behest, Reiner dares to venture into the folds of battle, a Rising Voltage lights the area as he charges, slams and sinks his claws into whatever manages to slip past the warrior. Slowly but surely, they will carve their way back to the surface together.

It's heavy. Far heavier than what her mother had made it out to be. Whatever those adventurers in those stories were on, she needed some of it. Yet, the power that dwells within sings against her fingertips, a kindly warmth reminiscent of a mother's guiding hand taking ahold of her own.[break][break]

"The myths wove you into their own?" That is the only real explanation she has to the way he conjures those objects like pieces of candy in a street magic show. "Of course you would choose a dragon slayer."[break][break]

Of all the monsters that threatened them, Eternatus was the biggest dragon in his life. No one cared about this beast as much as Navy did, and no one would fight as hard as he would to keep it from consuming them all.[break][break]

For a moment, she contemplates the stars upon her sash, the little fragments of light she has dragged down into this dark with her. They protect her with an energy that pulses within all life, a stronger form that Navy now possesses in his own veins.[break][break]

"Don't be reckless." She chides him, reaffirming her grip on the staff with one hand as she hooks her other arm around it. And she'll balance it against her shoulder, carefully pointing her dagger at him with the limited motions of her free hand. "Reiner and I still got fight in us."[break][break]

The Luxray snorts, a smug smile tugging at his lips as he stretches out. And her blade glints, then sparks with a light current.[break][break]

"We'll watch your back."

[attr="class","eris109"]Having spent as much time as she does around him, Eris has come to realise that there is a difference between his grins. There are those that simply prelude the corniest of lines and there are those that signal the beginning of him doing something stupid.[break][break]

Manifesting a staff out of thin air most certainly doesn't fall under her scope of expectations. Much less one that somehow nearly knocks him off balance.[break][break]

And with its appearance comes the grand reveal of the area, the unnerving mist dispelled and exposing the true monsters that lie below. Her first instinct is to reel back, her skin prickling with chills as she watches the withered bones shamble towards them.[break][break]

"A- are you sure?"[break][break]

Everything is hitting all at once, and in the moment, her mind focuses on the only real thing she can grasp: Navy's safety. Her hands are outstretched for the staff, ready to take it and find out just how heavy those fairytales must be. Reiner too, seems interested by the sudden creation, his tail swaying from side to side as he leans against her.[break][break]

If she falls, he falls with her. Such is their bond, the main source of power behind the sygna connection that protects them both.[break][break]

But perhaps the dim light hides her discomfort, the way she drops her gaze to the dagger in her palms makes sure that she can force her hands to be still.[break][break]

"My favourite -" There is a moment of pause. One where Eris seems unconfident in her answer, and perhaps, even a tad confused on why he's asked that question to begin with.[break][break]

"There was a magical stave that anyone could use... It's said that when you carried it, you'd never lose your way in storms or bad weather, even if you didn't know the way."[break][break]

Magical runes. A compass. A self-mending rope. A feather plume. There are many many tools that her favourite heroes have used, none of them truly considered a weapon by conventional standards. Hell, if anything, most of them weaponised their wits to make the best of a situation.[break][break]

Lightning pierces the shadows, illuminating the dark as yet another Nihilego is struck down. Empowered by their bond, Reiner simply overflows with energy, bright blue sparks intermittently crackling off his mane. And though that electricity seems to coil around Eris' hand, it never seems to harm her or make her draw back.[break][break]

And he huffs, turning his gaze away as he begins to tug Eris in the opposite direction. Mesprit, however, who'd once held no interest in the Pheromosa, now finds their attention thoroughly ensnared when Uxie tries to talk to it.[break][break]

Perhaps, it's a childish jealousy. But now the pixie of emotions chatters endlessly at the ultra beast, as if attempting to grab its attention and befriend it. And they keep glancing towards Uxie, a smug grin on their face whenever they get a response.[break][break]

"Just... don't let it kick us." A brief reminder tossed over at the legends who are far hardier than them, Eris offers Reiner a comforting scratch behind the ears. "Don't think Reiner or Rocky would appreciate having to haul us back home."

And she dares to look it in the eyes. That monster that lunges towards her. That creature that passed judgement for her actions. Defining features swim in a murky, distorted pool, leaving nothing but an unrecognisable amalgamate that writhes and squirms.[break][break]

And perhaps, her own face writhes and squirms with a hungering fear.[break][break]

"You, you’ve, you’ve proven you’re good enough.”

Good enough? For what? Being good had never brought anything good for her. Even in this moment, he isn't here for her when she needs him.[break][break]

There is no bracing for what comes. The attack had never hit her. No, back then, it had been the shockwave that had caught her off guard, this time a sudden blast that seeks to throw her off Reiner's back. But this time, less harsh in its shove, forcing her to lean down and cling tight to him as he splays his feet to keep his balance.

Some yell a battle cry, others check in on their closest companions, but one catches her attention. oscar clayton, yelling about a weak spot up above. One brief glance through sweeping sands is all that it takes for her to put it together. If they want to exploit that weakness, Baba is going to need all the help he can get reaching it.[break][break]

The little copycat catches her drift like a kitten snatches a laser pointer, taking a leaf out of howard slayte's book and lending a Helping Hand to Baba.[break][break]

"Miss Freya... I- well..." She starts but quickly stops, ensnared in the honeyed glow of that gaze. "I fight because... well, the reasons aren't really important right now... but I know what my limits are."[break][break]

Many eyes keep a lookout for when she sneaks onto the stage. Many would not hesitate to lend her aid if she so asked, even if disapproval sat upon their tongue.[break][break]

"More than anything, Miss Freya. The real fight I face-" Her eyes drop to the ground. "The whole... abandoning my family in Rocket, so now they're mad and want to kill me. And if people like me make a single mistake in the League, we're on the chopping block... And people that... think that all Rockets should just die in a ditch or something."[break][break]

Labelled as more than just a child. Walking a tightrope where despair is all that awaits her if she falls. Her words begin to fail her, her mind twisted in knots as she clumsily broaches this subject.[break][break]

Reaching over to Reiner, she receives the satchel he's been carrying in her stead and begins rummaging through. "I could probably check what they are and see if the florists around these parts have them."[break][break]

Good time to see if they have any new flowers or plants she can add to her own garden.[break][break]

"Probably something about kids at a war council." She briefly explains to Cass. "It'd be pretty weird to get us involved in super dangerous stuff considering our age. Quite a lot of people don't really think we should be doing what we do." Finally, her fingers latch onto a leatherbound journal, carefully pulling it out until she can rest it upon her knees. "What we do being uhh... I guess running headfirst into battles against Rocket or the flavour legend of the month."[break][break]

Never once have they truly been stopped though.[break][break]

"At some point, lotsa them kinda accepted that we're gonna do stupid things."[break][break]

At some point, they had to, given Hideo and Eris' uncanny ability to waltz into danger. Or well, her uncanny ability. Nowadays, Hideo was technically certified to be on the battlefield with his whole gym leader position.[break][break]

Click. Click. Click. The soft clicking of Uxie's every attempt blends with Hideo's description of how he'd channeled his power, Mesprit's soft snickers alerting her to some form of ongoing shenanigans. With a brief peek over, she sees just what the pixie has done.[break][break]

It is a small key. Oh so carefully hidden behind their back.[break][break]

But all hell breaks loose when something suddenly drops from the ceiling, smacking Hideo right in the face and screeching bloody murder as it squirms and flails on the table right beside her. And just like a cat, she launches from her seat, tension through her entire body as if readying to bolt right out of the room.[break][break]

A Joltik. Wrapped in a red chain...?[break][break]

There is a sinking hole that forms in her chest, a yawning chasm from which dread begins to overflow. And in the moment, all she can do is take a deep breath, hands pressing up against her temples as she closes her eyes to reality.

The ground begins to rumble, the chorus of Unown getting louder and louder as the earth cracks. And from the first faultline emerges a root, then another, and another. Wood pierces and churns the dirt, a sprout growing into a sapling, then a tree. Larger and larger seemingly without an end to its growth. And the clearing darkens as the new formed branches of the gargantuan tree form a sprawling canopy that eats the sky.[break][break]

Crystalline blossoms begin to bloom around them, an eerie glow offsetting the shadows that seep in. Though it's been gone for more than a year, a sense of familiarity might greet the duo as they recognise the Tree of Life that once graced Sootopolis' shore. A large, murky figure slowly melts into existence, features slowly chiseled from memory as the edges begin to sharpen with time.[break][break]

Necrozma stares down a helpless Yveltal. The tips of its claws are hooked around the crimson specter, its grip growing ever tighter as it begins to dive. And it drags the bird right down into the ground, smashing its head repeatedly until the pokemon goes limp.[break][break]

Then it turns its attention to the three of them. It stares for a moment before lunging straight at them, an eighteen wheeler sized appendage reaching out for its next victim.
