The burning is familiar.[break][break]

Yet Calliope does not end up the twisted wreck of flesh and metal that the golem's owner did. Her already scarred body only bleeds as new blisters crack over damaged skin. Panting, the sword fading in fae mist from her hand, Callie slumps and watches as blood leaks from her face and dribbles into pits of muddy slush on the ground.[break][break]

It doesn't hurt. That is something they don't tell you about third degree burns. It burns out the nerve endings. Feeling a burn was a very lucky thing.[break][break]

Her Beedrill lays at her side, crumpled and curled up. Her wings do not move, eyes reflecting the sunrise blankly. Half burned, half frozen.[break][break]

She does not want to move. Pushes herself to her feet anyway in wobbling steps.[break][break]

Calliope does not know Isaac Merlo, but she stands nearby and watches soundlessly as he works magic to heal the murderer's wounds. She doesn't make a peep when body is handed over. Only watches with exhaustion from her one working eye as he is passed along.[break][break]

Callie isn't sure what she feels in that moment. Whatever it is, it's not good.[break][break]

She stares down at Isaac and Navy with a flat, stern judgment before backing away slowly. Her body screams at her.[break][break]

"Softhearted fools."[break][break]

Callie comes across Eduardo Hisakawa in her retreat. She claps a hand on his shoulder, digs the nails in a bit too tightly by happenstance.[break][break]

"You. Your pokemon are well trained. Assist me in finding stragglers in the wreckage." Her tone brokers no argument. No rest for the wicked and all that.

A countdown starts.[break][break]

A sword slams into the dirt between her feet.[break][break]

Calliope watches as the ice monster starts to take in energy. It makes her hair stand on it, a feeling like static electricity crackling over her from the pure pull of power.[break][break]

People like @howard or Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki or perhaps even Navy will stare at this creature, at the destruction it was about to unleash, and perhaps feel fear or regret or some other meddling mix of emotions. Maybe the bandaged Rocket (Shred) would mourn. Perhaps the guy in the cool shirt (Eduardo Hisakawa) would dissolve a moment after herself.[break][break]

Calliope only feels pure adrenaline. Pure rage.[break][break]

Callie has always been a warrior first. Even as her Beedrill is repelled, the wings starting to frost despite the speed and crystal, she lets out a desperate, angry cry and rips the sword from the ground. Doubled edged, much like herself, her Gladius. There was no flight, only fight.[break][break]

Ever the martyr, she charges at the beast herself. She slices at the creatures that swarm, spirit from Navy's gift almost seeming to pulse with her. Her Beedrill, frigid and frosted, stays at her side. As trained; a good dog will perish with it's master.[break][break]

Twin Needled gleam as it lifts it's stingers with Calliope, the burning tera glowing brightly.

There is another wet noise as the Beedrill attacks one of it's wasp brethren, the Nargandel finding it's thorax filled with holes. It buzzes angerly, the speed from it's previous Agility helping it dip and dart out of the poison attacks being aimed at it. Milky white tentacles are slashed away when they reach to grasp.[break][break]

On the ground, Calliope watches as reality splits. It spits out Navy and a man she does not know, the two of them standing as one. A large blue canine holding sword in jaws slices through the barriers of the ice titan. She is ignorant of the weight of what this means, a lack of understanding at what stands before her.[break][break]

No matter.[break][break]

Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki offers her body, in a way, to keep the golem from crushing them with frozen fist. Frost hisses in the air from the force as it lands, ruffling her hair. She raises her arm to block debris from her eye.[break][break]

Sees a beating heart when she lowers it.[break][break]

"The hearty is exposed!" She calls out over the din of battle, to anyone who cares to listen. "Beedrill!" Callie calls to her pokemon, next. The insect, crystal coated, zips downwards suddenly. It understands intrinsically what it's trainer wants.

Joining in on the onslaught, Beedrill brings it's two stingers together and aims itself at the 'heart' of the ice monster. Her body ripples with Tera energy, boosting her power and her Fell Stinger as she tries to land it.

Callie snarls at Shred for the rough handling. Her hands curl into fists at her side, ready to strike back- but they have bigger fish to fry right now. She can beat the man's face into a mangled pulp later. After Dewford is rid of this menace.[break][break]

The tera crystals shine, the Tera Orb at her hip shiny a deep green. Her Beedrill, who didn't even have any tera shards, started to crystallize and get that boost of power. With the danger of frost absent, the Bug type uses it's improved speed to fly up into the air after a quick order.[break][break]

"It doesn't matter how strong it is; we kill it!" She calls out to Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki and Eduardo Hisakawa, shooting a nasty glance at Shred once more. Power gathers and lasers fire, whipping the air into a chilly frenzy. The Nargandel and Nihilego circle, ready to dip down to aide their current master.[break][break]

"I'll take care of the lackeys!" She calls out, again, voice ringing both in person and over the comms. The Beedrill zooms at the closest Nargandel, stabbing it with a Fell Stinger. A Nihilego goes close, thin body pierced on sharp pointed knives.

When Calliope was four, her mother had a stillbirth. The umbilical cord was wrapped around her baby brother's neck, tightening as he tried to gasp for his first breath. It was too late by the time the doctors realized. Callie doesn't remember much from that time; only how her mother's once round stomach sagged much like the sadness in her face. Her and her sister stayed with their grandparents that summer, playing in the lush fields of Pallet and eating watermelon. Her parents never tried to have another child after.[break][break]

This what she is struck by when she watches this monster force itself from the earth.[break][break]

Something that should not be alive being coaxed into the living world. It spreads the very ground around it to claw outwards and be free. Here in Dewford, so far away from that place lost to memory, she will be the noose that hangs this beast.[break][break]

Hot breath mists around Callie, misting in the air.[break][break]

This is followed by frost starting to gather on her pokemon's wings. The Pidgeot wobbles from the force of power emanating from this icy creature, the sudden drop in temperature followed by large chunks of ice and hail raining from the sky. They knock into her pokemon, who cries out and wobbles in the air.[break][break]

"Hold!" Is ordered, rough, and the Pidgeot is physically pulled back by her own hands when it starts to spin into a nosedive. The landing is rough, only her physically tugging pinfeathers out into her hands as her and her pokemon slide into a messy heap next to Shred of all people. The Pidgeot coos, ice spreading further on it's body.[break][break]

"You!" Surging to her feet, she grasps for the bandaged man's collar, tries to physically pull him to meet her face. "Call that thing off! It's going to kill us all!"[break][break]

A frustrated noise leaves her, pulling away suddenly to grasp at the pokeballs at her side. A Beedrill pops into the air, wings fluttering fast and hard the only thing keeping the ice at bay. It quickens itself, body gleaming as it readies for orders.

"Get back here! I'll kill you!" Calliope roars at the back of Shred. She pants and huffs from their short skirmish, pushing herself to chase.[break][break]

Then Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki's voice rings in her ear. Calliope growls as she runs out of the building. It's cold. Freezing suddenly. What the fuck?[break][break]

"Heard. A Rocket is on route to the cavern." She speaks into the comms herself, quick.[break][break]

A pokeball is tossed out, her Pidgeot, which she hops onto. The flying type takes off, circling as it rises into the chilly air. When they're high enough, Callie squints into the wind. She can see the retreating back of the Rocket, fleeing straggler citizens who did not evacuate in time, the warship in the distance.[break][break]

But most importantly she sees ice.[break][break]

A crawling, crackling rash that spreads from the caverns. She sucks a sharp breath through her teeth.[break][break]

"What the fuck?"

She speaks as if she is different, as if she didn't choose to live here despite knowing what kind of place that Hoenn was. There is not disdain in her tone, though; at least not for the Region and people within it.[break][break]

Calliope Marks looks down her nose at Shred. A snarl of disgust planted on scarred lips.[break][break]

"Vermin." Is muttered. A pokeball is tossed out, a massive Tangrowth materializing into the cramped room. It seems to smile from inside the mass of vines.

The Ponyta stomps a hoof-beat into the floor, scratching it from the force. She shakes herself off as they break between the rounds of heat then shape.[break][break]

When the timer sounds again, she unleashes a hell-storm with the other Fire types around her.

Hoof beats and wheels whir. It's like something out of the movies she watched as a kid. Her and her sister curled under warm blankets, fantasy worlds dancing on the screen. Later, they would whisper in the dark about how they would change it, to make it more magical, what they would be when they went there.[break][break]

Callie quashes that line of thought down, forcefully focusing on the magnetic swim as her horse kicks in the air. A waterless swim.[break][break]

Dust puffs up around the Ponyta's hooves when it reaches the cliff-side. Callie glances around to regain her bearings.[break][break]

"It's unnatural. What's wrong with this place?"
