Duraludon ran into trouble right away. A fish lunging at it from the falls, with quite the attitude. The thing introduced itself with a Psywave, a wave meant to disorient. Despite being ineffective, it did quite a bit of damage. Duraludon responded with Metal Burst, shedding its damaged outer skin and launching the hot metal as a projectile.

“It’s strawberry. I have a blackberry one with me too, if the coil dies on that one.”

He said, tilting his head and watching Theo accept it, so close to the water. He wasn’t concerned or anything… but Casey walked away for a second. He didn’t bring swim trunks, but he wanted to lay in the water. Without exposing himself. He resolved this by sitting closer to the falls, hoping the mist glancing off the surface of the water would obscure his body.

”I used to come here all the time, when I got all worked up and didn’t know what to do. Used to see Salamance take flight for the first time.”

Maybe I love to leave, come and go until I die, scared of the future, no.
I'd rather settle than try.

The stairwell slowly wound down. Stones smoothed by time acted as paved steps. As they drew closer to the temple’s chamber, an odd humidity crept up on them, being that it was tied to the god of the Sea. Casey was still putting two and two together with his question.

“I’ve read bits and pieces, but that’s it. Melody doesn’t really tell me any of this.”

With the tableau infront of them, it looked to be the end of the road. A print of people gathered under Kyogre, the Sea itself. But with the temple being carved rock, he put his hand right atop Kyogre’s head and pushed inward. The wall groaned, before parting from the other walls as if it were a door. He then gestured for Theo to follow, as he moved through the path laid out before them.

”I was just guessing here. But it’s safe to say that they wanted us to imagine Kyogre returning, and the land giving way to the sea.”

The long hall ended in a stairwell. Decidueye going first and being crushed by a falling Duraludon wasn’t ideal, so Casey had to tuck his pet back in a ball for now. The three slowly made their way down a set of stone steps, so weathered that they may as well be polished.

“I guess it makes sense for forces of nature themselves to be gods. For them to be just that unaccountable to people.”

With an outstretched hand, Casey declined the cigarette and kept walking down the steps. Unsure of where to put his hands when he was this unnerved by his surroundings, both made their way to his sceptilite pendant.

”I’m… open to the idea but have yet to meet one.”

Casey laid beside her. His eyes lit up, watching her have the strength to sit upright and eat. While he didn’t express it with any tact earlier, he really was concerned for her. But that concern was replaced with a gentle smile.

He nodded, leaning back in bed a little. His arms folded up to cradle his head, the fins and scales marked on them bowing and flexing. Casey blinked, and tried again. “I didn’t think you were the type to go to that sort of thing by yourself. And that you maybe… already had someone. But it had to be us.”

She then reminisced about that day with him. Contentedly, Casey folded his arms over his stomach and turned his head to face her. “And we both got what we wanted… eventually.”

The baby. A stable home. Her father no longer haunting them. Casey eventually pushed off with his arms, sitting upright with his back against the wall, so she wouldn’t have to crane her neck to look at him. He bit his lip, and started again.

”…I dunno. I guess I’ll have to get in touch with him again. Kind of a weird guy, if we’re being honest. But he’s cool.”

She leaned into his hand, loosening her grip on his hair. He then leaned down, scarlet hair pooling around her shoulders. Casey peered into her eyes, as if he was looking for something. He then bowed his head, planting a small kiss on her forehead.

He was torn. But he couldn’t be mad about that anymore. Not when he’d more or less made plans incase this thing between the two of them didn’t work out. When he’d just gifted his jewelry out to whoever, including a few women her age.

He balanced on his elbows and knees, trying to lower himself enough that she’d get more of the heat radiating off of him that led her to lean into his hand. “...”

She then gave him a small kiss, leading Casey to lean back and look down at her with a little smile. He then pushed off to one side, to lay beside Summer. “I still think about that day at the observatory. We were drinking a lot and crying. I was vaping until the coil burnt out, just working up the nerve to get in there and talk to you.”

She then took one of his hands, laying it across her abdomen. Casey reached up with his free hand, peeling his necklace off and casting it aside, not even concerned that the Sceptilite pendant would get lost in her home at the moment. He looked to her and bit his lip.

”And I still think about that vision you saw. Us settled in together. And all of my friends happier than they were in that moment. …It’s been a while since I checked on DANNY HALL. He got in a fight with one of his friends. His girlfriend and I just… let it happen.”

Another long drag from Casey. He was then met with a blinking light, letting him know that he needed to charge his pen. He then winced, putting it back in his pocket.

“Guess there’s still perks to going analog.”

With Decidueye at the head of the pack, Casey motioned for Duraludon to follow. Casey then slowly jogged behind the two, keeping an eye out for some kind of indentation in the wall, at the very least.

”Do you know anything beyond the stairwell, and the promise of treasure?”

Casey took another long drag. Before he spoke again, ribbons of smoke trailed out of his nostrils, as his mouth was shut. Between that and the tattoos, he was taking this dragon thing seriously.

“The flavor is the point. If they had cigarettes that atleast smelled like fruit, I’d be all over em.”

His eyes widened at the question. Casey made a gesture for him to follow, as he and his Duraludon moved to walk as they talked.

”I’m not familiar with this temple. I know someone at the Weather Institute, and he’d never mentioned something like this on the outskirts of Fortree.”

Duraludon stalked the hills inside the cave. Between that and the roar of the falls, Casey was nearly rocked to sleep. He always came here when under pressure. Bathing nude in the pool at the bottom of the lake had him as close as he could be to the innocence of being a newborn. So when a shadow in the door, an unmistakable shape stood there, he hastily swam ashore and started to put his jewelry and basketball shorts on.

“Are you here to kick back too, or is this work?”

He said with a smirk, before moving to approach him. To approach the mature, stoic Theo. He peered into those eyes, those eyes that made him look every one of his thirty-six years. Casey offered him from one pocket that strawberry nicotine vaporizer he’d seen earlier, pinched between two fingers in an outstretched hand as if it were a cigarette.

Maybe I love to leave, come and go until I die, scared of the future, no.
I'd rather settle than try.

She cupped her hands around his face, pulling it up to face her. Not to let himself get totally dragged along for the ride, Casey slowly lowered his hands, before putting them on either side of her hips. She was the first to cave, to tell him to settle down. What a feeling.

He was torn. Casey slowly pushed his hands together, fingers curling around her waist. They were always like this together. Should he drag her out of bed for the rings, or give her what she wanted earlier?

He kind of sat there, peering into her eyes. Those amber eyes that softened for him, from the glare she turned at others. “...”

He got along well enough with her family, it’d be fine. Maybe a little too well. Frankly, he’d said too much to Knox, all the while enabling him. Was this what anyone had in mind when Casey said he was gonna “talk to him” and sort it out?

When she grabbed a fistful of his hair and commanded his attention, she wanted him closer. So he crawled forward, knees on either side of her and a hand to hold himself up. Casey’s other hand drifted down, trying to sit just under the back of her head, so that they held eachother.

”Not what I meant either. But while we’re here… It finally feels like how it used to be. I missed us.”

She dug her heels in again, having another big outburst. But she still reaffirmed her commitment to him, in that moment. Maybe it was a mental block on his part, thinking about his own parents parting ways. About how there’s a million other ways to say I love you.

He had to hide a smile when he got exactly what he wanted. For her to just let it all out, and break their silence. Casey started to stand up on the bed on his knees. He then moved down to all fours, before eventually bowing his head. He raised his voice too, but in the way you would if you had nothing but good news to share, and were just overcome with emotions. “THAT SETTLES IT THEN. SUMMER PRESCOTT WILL YOU MARRY ME.”

As she got all fired up working out the specifics, he had to listen, and his posture shifted. As if he was trying to look smaller. “We’ll go after your nap, as soon as we know you can hold anything in your stomach too. But we can do it today if you want.”

Casey sat there, eventually craning his neck up to look at her.If she put her hands on him he wouldn’t behave himself. He wanted her to be with him, and for them to make their every move together. But at her mention of a surprise, he couldn’t help but have a hand reach out, tracing a finger over her stomach.

”You already have a little surprise from me. I just thought… it’d be romantic if we like… put our lives together in this way.”

Casey watched as Knox colored. As his hand flicked back and forth, with what looked to be the rigor of a cat lunging, biting a hand that mere moments ago rested on it. He was caught in this. In this fickle, cat-like man and his little game. “Honestly, dude? I just worry for her safety when she drinks. And I want her to be in good shape when she gets all worked up like she always does.”

Because it really… excites him. Casey couldn’t say that part, even with the acid slowly breaking down the barrier between subconscious thoughts and conscious ones. But… something else came up.

He couldn’t help but look down at his hands. Saw them slowly wiggle, even as they stood still. Closed and opened his fists a couple of times. Maybe even looked like claws if he squinted. Maybe that’s what he was. Some kind of monster. Didn’t help that he tattooed fish fins and scales on his arms. “Honestly, dude? I feel like… I’m kind of a freak sometimes. Do you ever feel like that?”

Casey then watched him dismiss the red one. No problem. They could still build a palette with orange and gold. Casey offered him a rust color, something between orange and brown, but decidedly darker than the pumpkin orange. He then picked up a silver one and giggled as he drew a little knife in her hand.

His next attempt to relate to Knox was every bit as weird as the last. ”We play with fire every day. The sun’s right there. Bigass ball of fire. Cooking us. Like we’re in a pot on a stove. How do you feel about the birds. Do you want to bring one inside? Give it a place to cool off?”
