dahlia's curry entry

thread summary: head scientist Eva Morales confronts dahlia goode about her government's decision to warp the meteoroid to sea hoenn. in the process, eva is given clearance to investigate another method of dealing with the meteoroid.

why is it important?: short but sweet, the thread is a good demonstration of conflict within a faction itself. although dahlia holds eva close to her heart compared to other officials working in the league, there is still room for tension, conflicting ideals, and more. furthermore, it was a nice opportunity to convey a little bit of dahlia's feelings towards meteoroid issue.

i also wanted to exercise the "yes and-" for roleplay here, not just as an admin, but as a player collaborating with another. \o/ thank you bd for the fun!

a buzzer rings, rippling through the boiling sea of tension. the receptionist is quick to press their finger against a flashing button on her terminal as if they were breaching for breath. leaning across their desk, the receptionist calls for MATIAS SILPH and Melody Miro; on icy cue, a mr. rime opens the door to the commissioner's office.[break][break]

dahlia is behind her desk, phone clicking into its holder. even through make up, fatigue seeps through the shadowy crescents under her eyes.[break][break]

"hello! melody. matias. take a seat." dahlia says, the mr. rime holding the heavy door frame obediently. "what can i do for you two today?"[break][break]

by force, her voice springs high at the end of her inquiry.

But in this tumultuous ever-changing present, where constants are few and far between, Dahlia's decision is determined by the clock and what little is confirmed within its face.[break][break]

dread travels up her legs as if it grew through her shoes from the very earth they stood upon. the way paxton keeps his cool. it's something to marvel at. although dahlia is used to maintaining fronts in front of cameras and audiences, such composure was grown in what one may call a political lab. not a battlefield.

"n-no," dahlia says, her hands fumbling through her pokeballs. unable to remember which capsule was for which pokemon, her blank mind soon realizes she has none that can teleport, "do you?!"

the casing clatters on the ground near her bayleef.

"why is it targeting us? we're not avatars..." she sucks in breath sharp, lips puckered in shock as if they had touched smoliv oil, "the water!"

the surface of the water is disturbed in violent ripples as the assassin manifests once more.

dahlia sighs. despite her obdurate stance, she can not help but sympathize with morales' conviction. it shows in the slow fall of her hands to her sides. the relaxing row of fingers like flaorama stems tucking away into moonlight.[break][break]

"by all means, then. try." the commissioner says. "i will give you and anyone else within your department until september to attempt this. understood?"[break][break]

her arms return to their stern crossing.[break][break]

"you may ask John Sullivan for assistance. the primal shard that was in his pocket is contained beneath rustboro. report to councilman GABRIEL BLACK should you make any headway. understood?"

the analogy is apt; however, she worries that the field of excessive danger has already been trespassed. it is more of a quagmire, she supposes. one that has had its murky waters seep into melody's mind.[break][break]

"lionel, i must confess. i worry that she has been infected by nihilego toxins." dahlia says quietly. "i would know."

hauled behind cover, dahlia can feel her heartbeat clobber her chest. every strike spreads across sternum like flame. it is the same alarm she felt when Cillian Quinn revealed himself within the fleur tea atelier; a gasp leaves her lips.

"paxton!" dahlia shouts, fumbling together concern and bewilderment within his name.

as he takes control of the situation, dahlia's hand scrambles for a pokeball. a bayleef is summoned.

"REFLECT, yasmin. cover for our friend here." she says, voice thinned beneath her breath.

for now, the unown assassin can not be seen. silence pervades their standstill. an untouched water's surface waiting for tension to be loosed across its serene edge.

"who is it?" dahlia whispers.

somewhere, the assassin takes aim.

quietly, the commissioner wonders where the spoink's innards have been teleported to. she frowns. arms crossed in strict lines across her chest, she continues across her bodily barricade.[break][break]

"i hardly believe sea hoenn would allow their rayquaza-should one exist-to save us." dahlia shakes her head, the blond curl she tucks behind her ear unfurling toward her cheek. "if sea-kyogre was able to succeed in raising the sea there, would it not follow that sea-rayquaza and sea-groudon failed?"[break][break]

someone who's out of her depth. she says to herself psychically; whether it is true or not, she's unsure. but she dare not say it out loud. even with trusted colleagues, utterances of weakness shift from staves to snakes.

"oh, well," she's caught off-guard by the question, wreathed in the steam of it, "someone who has lived on one track all her life. attended all the right schools. met all the right people- well, save for one, i suppose."

she taps a finger against her apple red lips.

"someone who is lucky enough to have things fall into her lap," dahlia breathes out, "whether i like it or not."
