THE WALKING WAKE

THE HYDRO STEAM GUSHES FROM THE WALKING WAKE'S MAW. The scalding geyser surges toward those carrying the book; however, the beam of water is contested by illeana reyes's SHINY GOLURK. Searing droplets scatter onto their clothes and the floor; however, any BURNS are repelled by Greyson Connors's COMFEY'S SAFEGUARD.[break][break]

As the GOLURK'S Z-MOVE: NEVER-ENDING NIGHTMARE clashes against the unrelenting brine, kyle lopez's SMEARGLE is quick to move into position thanks to its trainer's JOLLY nature. Just in time, the dog waves its brush-like tail. An IMPRISON forces the HYDRO STEAM to fail, the spout reducing to a pathetic squirt dribbling from the creature's jaw.[break][break]

A horrible yowl announces the WALKING WAKE'S TERASTALLIZATION. Melody Miro is quick to decipher its FIRE TERA TYPE. The FLAMETHROWER swings toward the group, their sightlines blurred by an intense heat shimmer. Immediately, ollie morales's WYDREER uses its Z-MOVE: STARRY SHIELD. A protective dome materializes, its shape made celestial by shimmering stars. Those inside (Eva Morales, illeana reyes, Greyson Connors, PENELOPE LIVY) are healed.[break][break]

As the cave chamber is submerged in shimmering lights, skyler dross and her URSHIFU press the offensive. She summons AQUA RINGS around the cerulean theropod. Several pop, their duty fulfilled as they interfere with the creature's attack. Above, Eva Morales's RAYQUAZA nullifies the SUNNY DAY with its AIR LOCK.[break][break]

John Sullivan's HEALING SCALES heal as he calls upon his ORBEETLE. The PSYCHIC-TYPE is wreathed in the PSYCHIC TERRAIN the man exudes as it provides PROTECTion for The Commissioner. She utters thanks and summons her DRAGONITE.[break][break]

"do we believe this to be the only one of its kind, or do more live here?" She says as her Pokemon conjures a SAFEGUARD too.[break][break][break][break][break][break]

Michael Navidson's URSHIFU, Callan Young's SLAKING, Melody Miro

The FLAMETHROWER dispels a shield of ILLUMINA ENERGY from Callan Young's SLAKING; however, the Elite Four purposefully allows his partner to incur a BURN. Furthermore, the area is doused in a WATER ZONE from kyle lopez's SYGNA SUIT. Empowered by the element, the WATER TERA TYPE DRAGAPULT angelo vestri commands looses a devastating HYDRO CANNON on the WALKING WAKE. It courses by several of skyler dross's AIR RINGS[break][break]

As the WALKING WAKE stubbornly pushes forth, Michael Navidson's URSHIFU uses its Z-MOVE RAPID-STRIKE: COMBO HIT. Through the flames the brazen bear incurs burns; however, its fists collide with the WALKING WAKE continuously in rapid succession, the thwack of knuckles against tough hide loud enough for the entire chamber to hear.[break][break]

Melody Miro's RAGE surges into her bonded PRIMARINA. The ILLUMINA ENERGY connecting them both protects the PRIMARINA from being felled by the FLAMETHROWER thanks to the SPECIAL SHIELD; however, it endures a terrible BURN.[break][break]

However, the PRIMARINA'S SPARKLING ARIA crashes into the WALKING WAKE with a powerful impact thanks to kyle lopez's WATER ZONE. The subsequent splash sprays healing droplets around the chamber, curing both PRIMARINA and Michael Navidson's URSHIFU of the BURN STATUS CONDITION as Laurence Anderson's SILVALLY lunges in with a WATER-TYPE MULTI-ATTACK. Briefly, the creature stumbles while its primal cords resonate violent cries.[break][break]

As the WALKING WAKE prepares to attack again, freya morningstar's ROARING MOON and MATIAS SILPH's CHARIZARD summon HURRICANES. The latter's HURRICANE glimmers with the power of TERASTALLIZATION, lifting the heavy creature for Eva Morales's RAYQUAZA to rain DRACO METEORS upon.[break][break]

As the WALKING WAKE slams back to the cavern floor, it is struck by PENELOPE LIVY's CHI-YU. Its DARK PULSE crashes with its malevolent magic, striking and FLINCHING FERNANDO SILPH's KECLEON to unintentionally leave it open for Eva Morales's DRACO METEORS.[break][break]

The Councilman is quick to swap the KECLEON for his GLALIE. Suddenly, INFINITY ENERGY begins to coalesce visibly between FERNANDO SILPH, kyle lopez, and Melody Miro (LEAGUE THEME). Another FLAMETHROWER blasts from the WALKING WAKE'S MAW in retaliation.[break][break]

As the GLALIE PROTECTS against incoming flames alongside MATIAS SILPH who shields himself behind a barricade of earth, Razz Kingsman's RESHIRAM fires a DRAGON PULSE to contest it.[break][break]

Simultaneously, Callan Young's SLAKING uses its Z-MOVE: HYPERADAPT. A powerful AURA manifests as the SLAKING barrels forward. Its FACADE attack—now empowered by the BURN it has maintained—pins the WALKING WAKE to the cavern floor. The FIRE TERA CROWN SHATTERS. As the WALKING WAKE shrieks, brilliant lights scatter about the cave.[break][break]

Though it may seem like the fight is over, the WALKING WAKE will FIGHT TO DEATH. It will resist all attempts to capture as its tendril-like tails sweep around, its jaw open to futilely attempt IMPRISONED HYDRO STEAMS or launch FLAMETHROWERS. This creature must be killed, lest it take one of you down with it.

PROMPT

THE HIGHEST ROLL will determine the FINISHING BLOW on the WALKING WAKE. Those in SYGNA SUITS have ADVANTAGE ON THEIR ROLLS.[break][break]

The following MOD POST may not go into detail about how everyone's attacks finish the Pokemon off.

THE SCARLET BOOK

AFTER THE BEAST IS FELLED, the Commissioner breathes a sigh of relief. There is a period of time in which the WALKING WAKE'S BODY IS EXAMINABLE; however, in a few moments, unbeknownst to the A.Q.U.A. Initiative, the body will disperse into light.[break][break]

Sometime during the chaos, kyle lopez's SMEARGLE uses ROAR OF TIME on the smoldering chunk of book in Eva Morales's hands. Time is reversed briefly in limited space... The book reconstructs itself. Whatever can be seen seems to possess memories of the events of GOODBYE GALAR... A drawing of a DYNAMAX POWER SPOT... Eventually, time corrects itself, but the FRONT COVER, a thick scarlet case as heavy as a seal stone, remains.[break][break]

On it, a peculiar creature's design is inscribed in its center. Curiously, Michael Navidson would notice that the cover did not previously contain this lizard-like design. Rather, its appearance is new and strikingly familiar to his CYCLIZAR. However, what remains the same are the four, never-before-seen symbols on the book cover's corners...[break][break][break]

There is only one way out through the other end of the chamber.

CAVE CRYSTALS

KYLE: "but isn't this one of the pokemon that appeared on that game?"

"i think you're right. this pokemon did appear, if we can call it one." The Commissioner says to kyle lopez. Though she did not play the game herself, reports of Dr. Holo's Rondez-view of Luv route describe a creature that matches the grisly visage of the one that opposes them now.[break][break]

Quickly, it is apparent that the phone screen did no justice to this creature, for the WALKING WAKE is a staggering beast in person. It towers above with primal claws. Every roar is as loud as an erupting geyser.[break][break]

SEVERAL ATTEMPT TO RECOVER THE MYSTERIOUS BOOK. On the gales of Melody Miro's TAILWIND, Michael Navidson rushes forth on his SHIFT GEARED CYCLIZAR. He slides beneath the behemoth with his vehicular lizard and his hand thrusts outward for the book.[break][break]

In a matter of seconds, several things occur.

The TERA CRYSTALS grow from their barnacle-like podium. As if attempting to seize the tome for themselves, the crystals crawl to keep it stuck. Still, the book is splayed open by the emerging MAGMA BUBBLE and EARTH SPIKE. Michael Navidson manages to grasp a page, tearing a raggedy patch of it from the spine as he skids away.[break][break]

Immediately, the intense heat that emanates from PENELOPE LIVY's MAGMA BUBBLE sets the tome aflame. The EARTH SPIKE surges from the ground. From its shadow, Callan Young's MARSHADOW lunges out to grab a burning piece of the page, unable to take the entire book in time.[break][break]

MATIAS SILPH commands his CHARIZARD to use its Z-MOVE. A vortex of flames spirals outward toward the book as it is bored through by the spike; however, illeana reyes's MEW manages to PSYCHIC the tome out of the fire's initial reach. Nevertheless, the flames are quick to catch up, but a PETAL BLIZZARD from ollie morales's VENUSAUR grants the book enough aerial lift to bring the smoldering book to Eva Morales and the rest of the party before more damage could be incurred.[break][break]

Thankfully, kyle lopez's ENTEI manages to protect the HEAD PROFESSOR when it contests the swinging tails.[break][break]

Michael Navidson's page fragment reads:

...the power to dynamax,[break]
Harnessing cosmic energy, one birthed from the primordial past.

Callan Young's page fragment reads:

bringing hellish flame...

The remainder of the book's main, surviving text:

The remaining pages of the book are burned or torn apart. However, inspecting through the remaining cinders, one can see pieces of drawings, including one that appears to be a bastardized rendition of the drawing of SUICUNE on Rowan Wrynn's napkin a long time ago...[break][break]

Upon the book being touched, freya morningstar's suspicions prove to be correct. To mess with a dragon's hoard in its own lair is a sure recipe for enraging it.

THE WALKING WAKE

Callan Young'S MARSHADOW PROTECTS dahlia goode and Laurence Anderson from the HYDRO STEAM. While some are able to dodge on their own like John Sullivan and Greyson Connors, others dodge the scalding strike thanks to angelo vestri's own TAILWIND. The bestowed powers of LATIAS billow throughout the chamber as steam hangs in the air.[break][break]

The BREAKING SWIPE swings, colliding with Razz Kingsman and/or his Pokemon, John Sullivan and/or his TAPU LELE. Though the island guardian is able to execute its NATURE'S MADNESS due to the MEOWSTIC'S HELPING HAND, it underestimates the sheer strength of this PARADOX POKEMON.[break][break]

The TERA CRYSTALS remain resolute, though shards chip from the expanding shockwave. Together, alongside a strategic THUNDER channeled through the HYDRO STREAM from Eva Morales's RAYQUAZA, they force the WALKING WAKE back as it NOBLE ROARS in pain.[break][break]

Laurence Anderson's ICE SHARDS, though weakened by the deteriorated bond between himself, clash against the stumbling WALKING WAKE'S SCALES. As it screeches, freya morningstar's ROARING MOON fires a DRACO METEOR, landing upon the creature with potent effect. Thus, the DRAGON-TYPING is seemingly affirmed.[break][break]

After an EXTREME SPEED, kyle lopez's ENTEI can determine that the WALKING WAKE is indeed remarkably similar to a SUICUNE. However, the similarities end with its appearance. Nothing else about this creature suggests that its origins are connected with the real life SUICUNE that once breathed and lived in this universe.[break][break]

As Melody Miro's CHATOT returns with a PARTING SHOT, the creature contends with vortex of flames from MATIAS SILPH's CHARIZARD and the ghostly kelp of skyler dross's DHELMISE'S Z-MOVE. The SPIRIT SHACKLE from Greyson Connors's DECIDUEYE and TELEKINESIS from angelo vestri's LATIOS assists with pinning it in place.[break][break]

FERNANDO SILPH's KECLEON emerges from its elongated shadow. The chameleon SHADOW SNEAK slams into the paradoxical monster with a loud thwack. The combined attacks are enough for the WALKING WAKE to decide that it has been pushed into a corner...[break][break]

As a SAFEGUARD is erected by COMFEY, the WALKING WAKE is quick to summon a SUNNY DAY. The cave chamber grows humid and hot. The muggy air is thick as it is sucked into the lungs, but the WALKING WAKE is unphased. Instead, it appears to empower itself significantly. Though HEALING is disabled by skyler dross's DHELMISE, everyone can see the beast is still hardy.[break][break]

The dragon evades MATIAS SILPH attempts to kill the creature. As Michael Navidson and Melody Miro shift partners, the creature launches its next attack.[break][break]

Haphazardly, the WALKING WAKE charges toward everyone, first chasing Eva Morales, illeana reyes, and ollie morales (who may possess the remains of the book) and those closest to them. A HYDRO STEAM is loosed from its terrible jaws— and although one may suspect its strength to be weakened, the beam of boiling water is thicker and stronger than ever before.[break][break]

Swiftly, before it can be retaliated against, the dragon leaps onto a nearby TERA CRYSTAL FORMATION chipped away by John Sullivan's TAPU LELE. Its claws scratch the glimmering deposit as it suddenly becomes encased in crystalline light. A CHANDELIER-LIKE GEM FORMATION sprouts from its head.[break][break]

Like a dragon, it breathes a FLAMETHROWER to burn everyone to a crisp.

CAVE CRYSTALS

"not your fault, callan. i don't think anyone could have foreseen this." The Commissioner says. She recalls her Dragonite before approaching John Sullivan and his Tapu. "i appreciate the help, doug. it's unfortunate that you had to disrupt your leave for a matter like this."[break][break]

The accidental arrival of Gym Leader Michael Navidson alarms her with guilt. It isn't fair for one to be thrown into catastrophe like this; however, she's comforted in part by the man's proven capabilities. After all, she had tasked kyle lopez and the former Elite Four Katherine Fairburne to find promising candidates for AQUA. It seems as if the Top Champion has found one in Dewford's finest.[break][break]

"welcome to the meeting, navidson! are... are you okay? are we all okay?" She echoes illeana reyes, acknowledging her kindness with a nod. "matias, are you able to lift us back up?"[break][break]

And should MATIAS SILPH try to feel the earth, his grudges crust with the stubborn soil. He is able to use his powers indeed; however, the TERA CRYSTALS present in the ground make any manipulation of it more difficult. As if sensing MATIAS SILPH's thoughts too, TERA CRYSTALS surge above them with a sharp, icy noise, creating a ceiling of kaleidoscope crystal. No way out. Just forward.[break][break]

As the smokey scent of his fires fade, Razz Kingsman's observation of the area aligns with kyle lopez's explanation of the terastal tunnels and the new cave systems under ROUTE 120.[break][break]

Greyson Connors and FERNANDO SILPH prepare their defenses with KECLEON and DECIDUEYE as the residual TAILWINDS billow deeper into the cave. However, the threat does not approach them... Instead, they protect the group from GLIMMORA & GLIMMET that curiously seem to reside here. In time, the TERA CRYSTALS proliferate behind them. Their sharp jutting points grow toward their backs, forcing the group further into the crystalline catacombs.

WITHIN THIS CAVE, YOU ARE ABLE TO TERASTALLIZE WITHOUT A TERA ORB.

EVENTUALLY, THE TUNNEL OPENS TO A WIDER CHAMBER. On the other side, the cave continues, but the party's eyes may be drawn to the absolute abundance of Tera Crystals here. They glisten and gleam despite the absence of other sources of light. In the room's center, an odd sight: a hardcover book with red cover.[break][break]

SUDDENLY, FROM THE OPPOSITE TUNNEL, ANOTHER CRY RATTLES THE RIBS. THeavy footfalls approach and quake the cave. A gigantic creature barrels toward them. Its eyes are a bloodthirsty red blaring from yellow sclerae. Its aurora borealis mane flows around its diamond-marked hide, ending in six horn-like tips of red-orange hair. It snarls, raising its heavy, cerulean blue crest.[break][break]

Oddly, this creature looks like a SUICUNE...
[break][break]

A pillar of boiling water (HYDRO STEAM) blasts from its maw at the group before the theropod leaps forth. Upon landing, the clawed cave dweller swings both of its thick, turgid tails at the trainers for a devastating BREAKING SWIPE.

- She has also met with an Interpol agent, Yujin Ha, as they survey a remote waystation. from her pokeball, dahlia's DRAGONITE springs forth. in midst the chaos, the dragon catches her with its back. though TAPU LELE is swift to approach, the safe commissioner delivers a quick wave of gratitude toward it and John Sullivan.[break][break]

meanwhile, the dragonite's verdant wings keep them afloat before meeting the verdant scales of Eva Morales's RAYQUAZA, allowing the commissioner and her pokemon a safe ride down on the serpent's long body.[break][break]

while dahlia whispers thanks to the rayquaza, her dragonite stays behind her. it shields her body with its larger size, shielding her from any possible debris that may be falling from above.[break][break]

as everyone assesses their conditions, the commissioner holds her hand to her own chest. her heart beats rapidly; though this is no chien-pao, she almost wishes it was, for this is unknown territory undocumented by simulation or foresight. illeana reyes's check-in is met with a quick nod of reassurance.[break][break]

Laurence Anderson approaches her with a question and she answers, still in the process of catching her breath.[break][break]

"lars, why do you think there is another way of attempting to assist avatars and their patrons other than the highly specialized program that has been designed for such a thing?" she huffs as her hands pat down her coat. "if your connection is so important to you that you keep things in secret and do not seek the resources we provide in excess, then it may be a good idea to reevaluate your station as head ranger and focus on recuperating said bond instead." a serious suggestion: one that may very well come to fruition by this meeting's end.[break][break]

after all, the heavens only know what slithers here with them. without articuno, the horrible cry that echoes from the deep's bowels adopts perverse tones orchestrated by the shape of this crystalline laybrinthe. [break][break]

shoal cave would not be unfamiliar to such sounds, such shining from unnatural crystal lights.

Their noses almost kiss. The cold air bites the skin pink, while the adrenaline trickles away.[break][break]

"you are so right." Dahlia says, her own embarrassment still cradled in her modest grin. "leave it up to the dark and our primeape brains to make us kids again."[break][break]

As they tread through the darkness, hidden stones and dried twigs crunch and crack beneath their shoes. Though the moon is bright, it almost feels as if the light can barely breach the charcoal wood before them.[break][break]

Yujin's phone light is their only guide.[break][break]

"do you ever think about wanting to be a kid again?" She asks. "i miss going to school, frankly."[break][break]

She laughs to herself and does not notice the discrepancies between the forest they walk through now and the forest they walked through before.

Laurence Anderson'S NON-RESPONSE TO THE DISCUSSION INVOLVING HIM, ARTICUNO, AND HIS LACK OF TRANSPARENCY HAS BEEN GRAVELY NOTED BY dahlia goode.

"we can afford more time for this operation's planning. utilizing our rangers, nautica's generous assistance, research and intel, we can ensure that this operation is a careful one."[break][break]

The multitude of ideas have already been typed. Like the city's crater, the various approaches and concerns surrounding Sootopolis begin to clarify the shape of the League's future operation. Evacuation routes can be revisited, redrawn by Rangers. Water routes can be surveyed and defended by Nautica. Politics and sciences can investigate deals and dynamax, while disaster is feigned and pulsed, depending on which of the two options Councilman FERNANDO SILPH has provided are chosen.[break][break]

"we can offer a negotiation, but with the understanding that it would likely be a symbolic gesture. we should not aim to raze sootopolis no. in the end, if we can strengthen the league's presence within sootopolis, i will be happy."[break][break]

Her gaze falls upon freya morningstar, Razz Kingsman, and Melody Miro: past residents of that beautiful seabound city silently weeping for its abandoned estate, home and gym.[break][break]

"we already have officers stationed there. regardless, an embassy or consulate will be needed for sootopolis citizens for visas, administrative duties... and emergency situations."[break][break]

Dahlia's fingers hover over to her laptop's trackpad and the cursor swipes off screen. As she looks for the next document, she speaks, still distracted by her searching on the screen:[break][break]

"there are a few other matters i need to discuss with you all, one involving the rad—"

THE MEETING COLLAPSES

SUDDENLY, the entire chamber quakes. There is no time to react. No time to prepare. TERASTAL CRYSTALS erupt from the ground and spike up the walls with violent speed. The bodyguards present within the room are lanced through by these sharp crystals, instantaneously killing them. Their limp bodies hang from glittering peaks.[break][break]

dahlia goode and her roundtable feel their platform tilt and crumble as crystals crawl up its structure like a surging explosion. If your characters are not tossed from the platform by the force of this Trastal eruption, they willingly take the jump off the crumbling platform to the depths of this chamber...[break][break]

Curiously, the fall continues past where the ground should be, much to Callan Young's surprise.[break][break]

MEANWHILE, THE TERASTAL CRYSTALS surge throughout the rest of the building. Outside the chamber, crystals narrowly impale Gunner Graves and paxton concordas; however, Michael Navidson is walled off from the two by the sudden Terastal formations. The floor gives way underneath him, forcing him into the same dive as the AQUA Initiative members.

NOTE: Michael Navidson may participate in the following rounds by fighting alongside the AQUA Initiative if their player would like to. Please select AT LEAST ONE POKEMON to participate with and include their information in AQUA ASSEMBLY PT 4 SIGN-UPS or in their post.[break][break]

paxton concordas and Gunner Graves are allowed to make a post in this round as a reaction.

IT TAKES AWHILE FOR EVERYONE TO LAND, but when they do, they are quick to realize that they are within a TERASTAL CAVERN: one of many that have fantastically appeared within Hoenn's earth. Bright crystals provide their own light, casting an eerie bluish glow on cave walls. There is some time to recuperate. Some time to gather their bearings.[break][break]
