She smiled, happy to be the nice company.

Then, prompted to realize her thirst, she shrugged off a bug and reached into it.

“Oh! I'm good, yeah. I actually um… brought some tea! It’s Mago berry, with some herbs. I make it myself from my garden.”

She offered him a reused glass jar. It was filled with cold, sweet pink tea, some ice still sloshing about.

“Want to try some?”

Nearly tripping, she was saved by his attentiveness. Her gaze had been lingering on a bird in the trees.

Cutiefly and Ribombee buzzed about, interested in the new surroundings and higher elevation. Typically, Ellie didn’t leave the beach and surrounding businesses. If she did, it was to head to another beach.

The higher up they got, the more impressive the view was below.

“And thanks for bringing me! I don’t leave the beach much. This is really beautiful.”

Was it a little strange for a doctor to introduce himself by his first name? She wasn’t too sure. He was probably just friendly.

At coffee, she thought a moment. Ellie didn’t typically drink coffee. It was much too bitter. She was a tea drinker—but, if the doctor said it might help, then she’d drink it.

“Alright.”

A pause.

“Lots of cream and sugar?”

She’d assumed she would spend the rest of the evening wandering the beach alone. Now, an adventure awaited closely.

With a grin, she nodded.

“Okay. Um...” Looked back to her house in the distance. “I’ll go get some things to take with us! Snacks; drinks or something.”

Drinks meant iced tea.

She left on her Milotic to fetch said supplies.

Eliora’s smile wavered a little as she processed. “Oh…” she nodded. After a moment, her eyes cut a little. What did that mean, exactly? People were dying a lot?
She didn’t ask.

“Yeah! Thanks.”

Rose-colored eyes peered back up at the ghosts in the water.

“I don’t know. I just… got the urge to come, I guess.” She thought another moment. “I don’t usually like aquariums—but they seem to be doing good work here.”

“What about you, Sam?” She wondered who watched over Mt. Pyre while he was away.

The way Sam handled the Toxel was sweet, and she regarded it with a further warmth in her smile despite the lingering shock of her new Spheal’s assault.

“Oh, I’m okay—I’ll dry.” She giggled, wringing a bit of hair. “But, if you'd like some company heading back to the festival, I’d gladly tag along! Maybe you could tell me some ghost stories.”

Slowbro looked up at Sam, eyes set so wide apart that their pupils seemed to go in different directions. ’Bro…’ A paw slowly raised to wave ‘hello’.

“Good to see you here.”

Ellie smiled too, eyes following his to the marine life swimming about in front of them. She wished momentarily that she was in the water, too. Perhaps an evening swim would be in order afterwards.

“I’ve been well!” The watched the jellyfish and thought. Except for the Tentacool attack, and the hospital visit—but she didn’t mention it. “And you?”

Rosy eyes hung idly on the pen a moment as he clicked it, blinking as the sound echoed a little louder in her head.

’Does that sound good to you?’

“Hm?” Realizing she’d slipped into a daze, she shook her head at first, and then corrected to a nod. “Oh. Yes, that sounds fine. Thank you… Rory?”

Realizing he was smiling at her, she did the same back, naturally, despite her lingering pain.

An audience clapped, and Ellie turned towards it, pressing her lips in a line that still curled at the edges and shaking her head. A small laugh gave, soon enough, only tickled further by the way the Whimsicott was treating its new trainer. Like him, it most certainly did.

“Maybe so. I like to believe they know more about us than we often realize.”

There was the bark of a Spheal behind her, and then, a WATER GUN hit her square in the back of the head. She gave a yelp and ducked. Then, Popplio came to her defense. Another BUBBLE BEAM popped on the nose of the rotund seal, and it rolled in the sand.

Feeling at the back of her soaked head, she gently combed hair and then went to attend to the Popplio’s second victim. It looked to Toxel and Whimsicott for a second round of applause.

“Oh, dear…”

A pokeball collected the deflated beachball of a pokemon.

The Spritzee still hovering close was collected into a pokeball. It seemed the two moon fairies were getting along as well, chattering and gesturing with their small hands as if in a very interesting and lively conversation.

Ellie smiled warmly back at the woman’s grin, and nodded.

“Sure. Yup, all good here.” She gave a small tilt of her head, wondering if she’d seemed as though she were in danger before. “Well, I hope you enjoy Hoenn. Don’t let them overwork you.”

Eliora didn’t frequent aquariums too often, but the conservation efforts made by Slateport’s Oceanic Museum had drawn her to pay the occasional visit. Slowbro waddled at her side as they made their way along the tanks. While her eyes followed around schools of fish, the lizard's own stared off to nowhere in particular.

They slowed, and Ellie spoke softly as though Slowbro might pay attention enough to follow. “Oh, look at that poor Frillish…”

Then, they were beside someone else. She peered over with a smile to engage about the lack of fins, since he also seemed interested. Then, she realized: “Sam!”

During a swim that morning, Eliora hadn’t noticed a small group of Tentacool in the water before they’d managed to get wrapped around her leg in a small bunch, stinging with poisonous acid. It’d be painful, and scary, but Slowbro had not been far off on the beach, and a HEAL PULSE had recovered her, mostly, burned skin returning to its previous smoothness.

However, she’d still collapsed from the poison.


“Hm?”

She was still in a bit of a pained daze, but had come to, and been mostly filled in on the details. There was a touch of fear, but mostly she’d been quiet and gracious to staff before resting a bit as tests were run.

Her stare fell onto a man named Rory, who she assumed to be a doctor.

“I’m okay, I think. Feeling better.”

“I’m glad you liked it! You did great. Sorry to cut it short, I just… want to be safe.” She smiled, and head towards the rocky shore. Once there, she went to look for her small treasure, stowing it away.

She looked out at the water, then, just in time to catch Gyarados’ scales disappear under the horizon.

“Hm… I guess I haven’t been around many ghost types myself.”

His hand gestured towards Popplio, who was still poking its nose out of the water timidly nearby.

“I’d say that’s true.”

An Aromatisse walked past, its AROMATIC MIST drawing the Popplio closer to shore again. BABY DOLL EYES struck the fairy type from a small distance, and the two suddenly locked and gravitated towards one another.

“Like this one…”

As if on cue, the Aromatisse suddenly swung. FLAIL hit the Popplio with a yelp and flung it back into the water with a splash. Giving a huff of bubbles, it AQUA JET back out of the surface, and shot a BUBBLE BEAM at the fairy type. How rude of it!

“Uh-oh! Hm...” She excused herself to collect the fallen Aromatisse with a pokeball. “Looks like we’ll be going to the Pokemon Center this afternoon.”

She looked out towards the waves. “Popplio! Do you want to come too?”
