[break][break] not that callie really knows anything about them. she'd only been to a festival like this maybe once or twice in her life, and that had been when she was too young to remember. before astra had taken her in her care again.

[break][break] this time, danny doesn't miss — though he must be distracted or something because his axe doesn't quite make it's mark. it makes it easy for callie to beat him — her axe lodging just slightly left of his, in the inner circle. ten more points.

[break][break] she smirks, meeting his gaze. normally, callie would not dare to stare at a superior so boldly, but thanks to their friendship and banter, she has no problem doing so. the only other person she would dare to do it was with her old captain paxton concordas, but that was an entirely different matter.

[break][break] still, she's the one to break gaze first. "you know," she says with a short laugh. "people say you're stiff but you're pretty funny, you know."

[break][break] when his arcanine appears before them, callie tries not to be too excited. she does really like dogs.

she watches with a pair of keen eyes as he preps himself for his throw, with certainly better form than she. it's a surprise — considering that she didn't think a boy like him would have it in him.

like someone feels in the aftermath of a horrible event, like a car accident, there had first only been a surge &mdadsh; of shock, surprise, relief. but then, once the adrenaline dies down, so does everything fall with it.

[break][break] "you know what i mean!" she says - no snaps. she lets @sole wriggle out of her grip, because callie's now not staring at her with all the love and relief of a friendship thought to be lost. no, she's accusing now.

callie releases her grip on DANNY HALL when they near the booth. this time, her eyes glimmer with excitement and a bit of fire. as @sole would surely know, callie was quite competitive at times.

[break][break] she smirks, once, and then turns her full attention to the game at hand.

[break][break] callie picks up one of the rubber axes even before the booth's patron has begun to explain the mechanics of the game, or try to teach her how to hold an axe. sure, she had never wielded one but that didn't mean she wanted anyone else to teach her.

[break][break] though, to be honest, it was a bit surprising that someone as normally stoic and serious as Mireille Wynter would entertain a romantic thought such as that.

[break][break] as the two pokemon take to the sky, callie decides that they should start the search on the ground. she leads the other's through the crowd, towards the boardwalk area where there are undoubtedly more people to view. perhaps one of the dopplegangers would reveal their true forms if they just kept at it.

[break][break] she laughs. "yes, paperwork definitely isn't my favorite of our tasks, but unfortunately necessary." fortunately for her, she could sometimes be a little lax and paxton concordas would take care of the rest.

callie wasn't always a gamer. she didn't used to be — that was the thing about growing up poor, it didn't give you much opportunity to have stuff and stuff is exactly what you needed in order to be a grade-a gamer.

[break][break] in her youth, she'd spent much of her time either hanging out with @sole or Alexandra Briarwood but that didn't mean that was how she spent her whole time. sometimes the best thing to block out astra's belligerence was to shove on a pair of headphones and blast my chemical romance to full volume while she watched youtube videos on how to fight gacha game bosses on her phone.

[break][break] as an adult, it was much easier to be a gamer, especially when paxton concordas had just signed her recent check.

[break][break] "unfortunately not," callie sighs. there were a few cases back in kanto when rockets would use zorua pokemon to try and infiltrate the base — always cases that were a pain in the ass to deal with. "some say that they can't transform as perfectly, though that might be a select few. at the very least, i doubt they can speak."

[break][break] now wouldn't that be hilarious? a pokemon that could talk?

[break][break] she tosses a pokeball into the air, releasing her fletchinder. "gunner, go scout the area — come back if you see anything suspicious."

[break][break] as the bird flew off, callie glances back at the other. "so, how are you liking your new job?"

[break][break] she smirked; as if callie didn't already know how mirri's job was going. she had been a part of her recruitment, after all.
