Whatever the psychics behind it may be, the fact of the matter is that taking off and landing are definitely the worst parts of flying on any plane. Or, at least that’s what Lia’s opinion of it is. An opinion that soon finds itself proved to be right once again when hearing Angelo’s comment.

”Oh for fuck’s sake…” An exclamation not made in annoyance, but in a mixture of exasperation and concern, a soft chuckle even escaping her lips as she reaches for something to hold onto when they begin their descent.

Rumbling.

A splash of ocean water.

And then, stillness.

”...You’re a menace, flyboy.”

Still, she grins despite her own words, a glance being spared for the small group of Castform to make sure they’re okay. A little shaken, but all in all, doing fine in the care of Angelo’s Togekiss. If anything, they look restless and ready to get out of the plane… and so is she.

Sure enough, in the distance, at the highest point of the small island, stands the small building that must be the base her superiors were being ever so secretive about. It all seems silly now, but at least knowing that the base is actually here means that they can finally get their job done…

The Castform are quick to scatter all over the island once left to their own devices, and as she takes a moment to watch them, Lia comes to the conclusion that as nice as Angelo might be, she sure isn’t looking forward to flying back to Lilycove. Not yet, at least.

The ranger doesn’t bother with thinking too deeply about the scientist’s story, for most of her attention remains on the Wailord as it moves to deeper water, soon being nowhere to be seen – underwater, swimming away. She smiles, glad to know the pokémon is safe and no longer in distress.

”Ah… You’re welcome. Hope it helped somehow.”

Her smile remains as she looks at the man, only to then approach the Steelix that lowers its head enough for her to gently pet it. Under her loving touch, pokémon closes its eyes, its huge golden body glowing as it devolves back to its usual form.

”Good job, Helix. You too, Lei.”

The Comfey twirls in the air at her praise.

Just like that, another mission successfully completed, even if with a somewhat strange audience.

The Steelix, larger and heavier in its mega evolved form, also happens to be much stronger, and moving something like a Wailord proves to be an easy enough task. Despite the latter’s weak movement, it’s pushed into the water, the waves soon gently crashing against its side.

Meanwhile, Lia frowns as she supervises the process, for Dr. Lloyd Kvar’s story seems like a strange one.

”Lost in the woods for years? Damn, that sounds tough…”
[break][break]
And also highly unlikely, but who is she to judge?

With the Wailord now in the shallow water, the Steelix begins to emerge from under the sand.
[break][break]
”Lei, heal the Wailord so it can leave.”
[break][break]
The command is given to her Comfey this time, the pokémon letting go of her arm in order to approach the Water type. In a gentle breeze, the petals of the Comfey’s FLORAL HEALING surround it, restoring its health and energy.

”Hmm…From the looks of it, the Wailord should be fine as long as it’s returned to the water soon, and I trust that Helix can perform the job gently. I’ll also have my Comfey with me to provide healing if needed.” It’s as she says this that she releases a Comfey from its pokéball, the Posy Picker Pokémon being quick to wrap its flowers around her forearm.

”You’re not? Huh… I figured most scientists in Hoenn were, given how common things like those are here.”

And also given the recent rumours of even wild pokémon mega evolving.

Lia glances at the Lucario then, wondering exactly what the pokémon is doing, but she reminds herself that she shouldn’t get distracted from the mission at hand.

”I don’t really know much of the science behind it, but people say a bond between trainer and pokémon is needed for it to mega evolve. Although, if you believe some of Hoenn’s own legends, Rayquaza may have just been the first pokémon to do it. So, who knows really…”

She muses with a faint smile, history definitely being her forte over science.

The earth itself shakes for a moment, the glow of Helix’s MEGA EVOLUTION coming from underground, and slowly, the Wailord begins to move closer to the water, as if something were carrying it towards it from beneath.

Gold-coloured eyes fall upon the man when he steps closer, but she doesn’t bother with questioning his explanation. If the officer approved of it, then it should be fine, right?

She smiles politely, even if her attention soon returns to the Wailord because she’s all too aware that time is of the essence in this sort of situation. It’s why she also calls her Pidgeot back, in its place releasing a golden Steelix that sternly stares down at Raphael Pryde.

”I was planning on having my Steelix dig under it and push it into the water. If he mega evolves, he’ll hopefully be able to do it with little effort and without causing more stress to the Wailord.”

The explanation is given with ease, both for the man’s sake and as instruction to the pokémon that dutifully goes underground moments after hearing her.

There had once been a time when Lia had had to wake a sleeping Snorlax and get it to move, and she had done so by appealing to the pokémon’s infamous hunger and luring it with food. Most Wailord weighed much less than a full-grown Snorlax, and yet she had a feeling getting these ones back into the water would be far more difficult to do without simple brute force.

Still, she smiled at the officer present when her Pidgeot touched down upon Dewford’s beach, swiftly jumping off the pokémon’s back and flashing her ranger badge despite being in the ever too recognizable uniform.

”If you can make sure that everyone stays off the beach, that’d be great. My pokémon can take care of the Wailord, but it may take a moment.”
[break][break]
With that said, her attention turned to the gigantic Water type in question.

Poor thing… It probably hated this.

Lia has always been the sort of person who favours comfort and practicality over style, her clothes being ones that fit well but never in a manner that might annoy her (nothing too tight, no itchy fabrics, etc.). But, Lia also knows well that appearances matter in life, and that an outfit can sure say a lot about a person.

That’s a difficult question to answer, and one she finds herself pondering on when noticing someone who somehow looks even more lost than her. Someone she recognizes.

One by one, the names were registered just as golden eyes wandered from the young trainer to her pokémon, the etymology of each playfully popping up in her mind just as it often happened whenever meeting someone new. Did she care too much about all of that? Yes, and Lia knew as much, which was why she also knew not to bother the girl with asking why she chose said nicknames even if it may have sparked her interest.

She simply jumped down from Strike’s back instead, lovingly patting the Zebstrika’s side before going to take a seat by the campfire. ”Those are cute names. It’s nice to meet you, Cat… I’m Amelia, but most people call me Lia. The Zebstrika is Strike and the Decidueye perched over there is Juniper.”

Juniper, as in one of the likely root words of Junaiper. The same convention followed when naming all of her pokémon.

Or, at least that’s the answer that comes to the ranger’s mind when overhearing the angered manager loudly ask said question, the security guard’s discomfort being obvious even from a distance.

She had come to the mall to do some Christmas shopping, but watching the scene, the ranger can’t help but feel duty-bound to help out.

So, it’s with a sigh that she approaches, offering a smile to the security guard just as he explains what’s going on to someone who seemed to have a similar idea.

”I’ve never been.” Admittance comes with a soft laugh, because truly, despite all her knowledge concerning languages and history, Lia isn’t nearly as well-travelled as she’d like. One day she might be, hopefully. ”I did study Kalosian history and linguistics when I was in university, though. History and Linguistics double major. Guess you could call me a nerd.”

A faint yet playful smirk tugs at her lips, for she has never really minded if people decide to call her things like those.

Luka doesn’t seem like she would, and that thought lingers in Lia’s mind as she watches the younger woman talk about the springs at her home (and the lack thereof).

”I'll, um, I'll try my best to give you a good time, then.”

Cute.

Even if lightly, she can’t help but chuckle. ”Sorry… You’re doing fine, Luka. Doesn’t being nervous kind of defeat the purpose of a sauna? Relax, I’d feel guilty if you didn’t also have a great time.”
