Maybe, if the multiverse exists, there is a universe out there where Lia and Ana are the sweetest sisters. One where they like spending time together, are loving, caring, and there are countless memories of good moments shared throughout their lives.

But that universe isn’t this one, and no matter how much Ana may say she cares, the words that follow contradict that.

Still, Lia sighs, once more pushing his anger aside and choosing to try.

Rolling her eyes in a way that’s purposefully not subtle at all, Lia grabs the tarp that’s supposed to go at the very bottom of the tent, heading over to the spot where she plans to set it up and then pushing aside any large pebbles and pinecones with her foot just as the WikiHow page had taught her to do. She even finds herself pushing away a fallen Apricorn.

Once she’s satisfied with the way the ground looks and is sure that there’s nothing that will poke them during the night, she lays down the tarp, and then turns to look at Lance.

She smirks, because considering both their cooking skills (or lack thereof) that’s an important question.

What is a scoff going to do except piss Lia off even more? How is she supposed to come out of this not thinking that Ana can’t stand her and that she herself can’t stand Ana?

”All you do is ask questions, why can’t you just tell me how you feel like a normal fuckin’ person?”

Her own words are blunt and sharp, and there’s nothing but anger in her stare.

So far, there’s nothing nice about spending time with Ana again: no happiness, no familiar comfort, no nostalgia. None of the things that should perhaps be there when spending time with a sibling again after a long time. It’s all absent.

What the Decidueye finds is another of its kind, friendly hooting being met with a matching sound. Juniper has grown used to the presence of other pokémon of his evolution line thanks to Lia’s own fondness for such species, but he can tell well that this is no Decidueye he has met before – nor has he ever met its trainer.

Perching himself on a high branch, the Decidueye stares at @hermes with a bright orange gaze that lies obscured beneath a leafy hood, his stare only shifting away when the rustling of leaves indicates the presence of his own trainer. It’s then when he hoots once again.

Following the sound, what Lia finds are not rambunctious pokémon but a trainer, her head tilting slightly while thinking of how glad she is that she decided not to have an arrow readied. ”Hey there, nice Decidueye.” She offers a polite and friendly smile, her gaze scanning their surroundings. ”Have you seen any pokémon acting weird around here, by any chance?”

Over four hundred kilograms of food, to be exact, and they can eat just about everything out there.

With a slight smirk, Lia reaches for one of the smaller boxes, opening it up only for the delightful scent of cheesy garlic bread to fill the air. ”I’m hoping that the smell of the pizzas and everything else will wake it and lure it away from the path, so we should put them close-by but not close enough for it to just go right back to sleep where it’s now.” The explanation comes easily – too easily, perhaps. Almost as if she knows exactly what she’s doing and not like this is a plan she came up with in the spur of the moment.

Confirming stereotypes much?

Not like Lia has ever cared much for those. In her eyes, whoever decided to put pumpkin spice in lattes is a genius, and there’s nothing quite like a warm cup on an Autumn night like this one.

As they walk through the forest, it’s with interest that she listens to his explanation, paying close attention up until the inevitable moment he asks her about her own time as a ranger. Inevitable because she brought it upon herself, really.

”A few weeks? Hmm… Let’s see… I’d say it’s been a little over a month now?”

Time flies, but while she should be shocked at her own words, Lia finds herself to be too distracted by the sight before her eyes. The dancing Ledyba and Ledian, unmistakable melodic cries of Kricketune, the sparkling dust shimmering in the air under Volbeat’s light. It really is a wonderful sight, and for a moment, it’s awe that overtakes her expression.

”Wow, I’ve never seen anything like this.”

If anything, it makes her feel glad to have become a ranger, because it’s not like she would have ever bothered to come into the forest in the middle of the night otherwise. She would have never seen this with her own eyes.
