The last time he'd been on a mission with MATIAS SILPH, they'd been trying to capture a DRK Triad agent. No, among many other barely avoided disasters, he was to be an escort. But unlike dahlia goode, this isn't for protection. He's supposed to supervise the Elite 4. As much as a man with a rifle could supervise a man representing a titan.

His feelings are mixed on the matter. Mostly negative. The report PENELOPE LIVY showed him from her meeting with the Council had solidified it after ignoring the rumblings from AQUA. Any trust he'd wanted to put into the man by virtue of his rank and his past are soured by the entanglement with Elisabeth Fiorelli. Most of his bitterness had been teased out by Penny already. Even so it lingered, festered. Not another fucking Rocket digging its claws into one of their own.

So he sticks to the mission. He puts his focus on something he knows he can do well. “The site up ahead came out of some sinkhole that appeared shortly after Aqua's last meeting.” Infested with tera crystals and revealing a cool new site all at once. “Small chance of looters.”

He nodded looking up at the gray skies above. “Sure. Get your ride ready.” He said as he directed the boat closer to the small spits of land available on the route. He wonders if they're sandbar islands but then ignores it and pushes forward. Ironically, the close they got to anchoring down, the stronger the sudden downpour. [break][break]

He jumps onto wet sand as a horrifying roar echoes through the short cliffs around them. And not far, between the cliffs, Kyogre surfaces raising waves and smacking into the rocks before angrily blasting debris away with ORIGIN PULSE. [break][break]

“There! Let's see if we can get a tracker on it.” The most delicate instruments were left on the boat. Now it's just getting the beast to turn around and head back out into deep sea and away from the isles and the coast. Joules begins to set up as defense, whirring loudly as they moved behind and aimed a bright ZAP CANNON. They were betting a fight would lure it out further than make it turn tail. Paxton gets his flier ready and gives a thumbs up to Annalise. “Don't get reckless out there.” He warned before preparing to do what he did best: shoot shit.

He takes a seat, reorganizing something in his lap before beginning to speak. "I apologize for accepting the meeting so late. I didn't see this before my leave." he explained, not particularly annoyed he was jumping right back into it. [break][break]

"On that note as we have yet to formally speak, I'd like to offer formal congratulations on your new position." he nods and offered a small smile to her before adding, "I hope this run of it treats you better than the last time." he said, already knowing about her record. [break][break]

"By all means, let us know if you need to make any statements to the public regarding your return. Though, considering the disaster on Route 105, I doubt many in the public has noticed." Still, it's always good to have something prepared just in case. He settled into his seat, Hopper hovering over him glancing at his notes before floating its way around the office.

Luckily, Paxton is surrounded by talented, wherever their strengths may have come from. The blue beams crash against their barriers and he watching the shields ripple and crack against the weight. But somehow it all succeeds and the trio isn't blasted backwards. "HQ, this is Officer Concordas. Team is engaging Kyogre and beginning push back into the deeper ocean." He relayed, pressing his hand to an earpiece in his left ear. [break][break]

As the pokemon moved to position, Joules whirred preparing a MIRROR COAT as the Kyogre erratically began to smash limbs through the water and roar angrily. DRAGON DARTS piece flesh, and the strange SHADOW BOLT arcs over one of it's flippers and down the beast goes into the water to shake off the pin pricks of damage. A fly is a fly, but a swarm? Much more difficult to manage. [break][break]

The sea titan surfaces again, this time eerily silent as it casts AQUA RING on itself, pulsing with energy as it prepared for combat. Perhaps taking this a smidge more seriously than before. Or perhaps just instinctual at receiving any kind of pain, minor or not. [break][break]

It opens it's mouth, water draining into its giant maw. Paxton stares back at the void before Joules beeps a warning that's cut off by an explosion of cold as it blasts forth an ICE BEAM cutting a frozen line across the beach with enough speed to give him whiplash. It's all Joules can do to MIRROR COAT a portion of it back, deflecting ice in their own small line across the legendary's face. Paxton calls Arber to the scene. Joules can't focus on attack right now, too busy trying to keep the trio of humans alive. [break][break]

A blue Florges floats by Paxton's shoulders dusting him off flecks of ice off him that may have fallen before quietly floating in front of Joules and letting out a warning cry to her compatriots before blasting a wave of MAGICAL LEAF to further deter the beast from continuing it's attack. [break][break]

Comms crackle with static but the update is clear as day. "We'll endure, and hopefully this speaker they're dropping into the water to lure it back with Groudon's recordings will convince it to abandon the beach-" he yelled before Kyogre blasts a second ICE BEAM, this time at the water around itself aiming for the pokemon not on the beach, pestering it.

The mission is important, but not very difficult. It's easy to do guard duty, even better when you're out with a good partner. He tightened the scarf tied around his neck, burying his face into Gunner's gift. The mission is a balm to him. Back out in nature, outside of a stifling office and mounds of overdue paperwork. A break for his eyes, and his thoughts. [break][break]

He breathes out slow, watching pale clouds form from his breath and flow out before fading away. If he listened intently, he thought he could hear the crashing water at Meteor Falls. [break][break]

Paxton break the seal on the box of donuts, glancing over at Gunner before back at them. He decided to go for a vanilla frosted, eyeing the Christmas tree sprinkles before taking a bite. His eyes rove over the consecrated site before he swallows and asks, "How've you been?" there's a small pause as he offers his colleague a small smile. "Shrine mood getting to you? You don't cut me as the religious type."

Paxton is used to going to 'fun' work events he'd rather skip out. Mandatory fun was often tiresome, but arguably necessary event he had once organized and participated in. This year is no different, though it's minor things since the bulk of it is delegated from the council. He is, after all, at PENELOPE LIVY 's beck and call. He almost makes it out of not going when he impresses upon her and ollie morales that he couldn't possibly when he doesn't own a suit. Much less know where to get one on such short notice. [break][break]

"Thank you, mila alexopoulos ." he had said, sullen and through grit teeth as he looked at himself in the white, three piece suit. Golden accents and accessories added by suggestion. Very winter, very white. Bridal almost. He sours further, sighing through his nose. luciano fisk was too busy to show. Understandable, the holiday season was very busy. All kinds of important parties were happening. annalise henderson had vetoed the event for risk of breaking someone's nose in public. [break][break]

Things with Gunner Graves were a little...weird. And Paxton is giving it proper time to breath before he decided to broach the subject again. Better for the both of them. [break][break]

And Penelope? Playing hostess with Ollie and a fucking terrorist. Sorry Remiel Calcifet , ex-terrorist. Allegedly. He didn't blame his friend for ditching in the slightest. He turns the schedule in his head, trying to figure out the optimum moment to dip out of the observatory without a word. His cat Olly, a fluffy little Galarian Meowth, follows at his steps, jingling loudly. A golden bell had been attached to his neck. A merry addition one would say. At least he somebody was feeling the Yuletide spirit. "Don't make yourself sick tonight." he warned as the cat skittered after him while he went to grab a bubbly flute and look for his boss.

The catch goes through and he smiles before continuing to trek through the rocky terrain. Eventually he decided to take a break to drink a bit of water. While resting, a golden Larvesta crawls by him, ignoring Paxton as it moved through. Paxton clicked his tongue at the bug, which caught its attention. In the time they stared at each other, he slowly dropped his last pokeball on the Larvesta before beginning to head back to the TINSEL decorated lobby.

The screeching of a bird made him look up as a bright colored glided over his head. He perked up immediately, happy to finally catch sight of his target. Paxton waits for it to slow a bit, landing slowly on on a boulder and preening. He steps toward it quiet as he could before throwing at its back a safari ball as hard as he could.

Paxton shakes his head at the ship rocks. "No. Me neither." he said, letting the silence sit untouched. After a moment he decides to just give his brief. "We're near where Kyogre's exercise took place. Along with keeping the titan from drawing too close to the coast, we want to collect data on it." he said looking at the churning waters, dark blue with growing white foam.[break][break]

"More importantly, we want to know if and when it changes from using infinity energy to primal. Kyogre is big enough has it is without the influence of it's primal form." he said. [break][break]

"We also are trying to pinpoint a pattern." For what? He couldn't say, but its belter to know its habits now that it was awake and unleashed. "Though, I've heard, most places see the ocean churning with or without the whale popping up."

The concept of rest is foreign to him. Even with mandatory couple of days off, all he'd done was roll around in bed and take pain killers. He didn't like sitting with his thoughts too often and his lack of therapist was starting to get to him. When was his appointment with marcus kotov again? He needed to get on that schedule but first time appointments were always so hard to schedule. [break][break]

He makes it back to the office in one piece though. After the third day, the work has piled on his desk. A lot was take or delegated, but a lot is stuff he needed to read or organize or archive for Penelope and the council. A lot of it is logistical, simple procedures. At some point, as he's running through the insane backlog of email in his account, he finds the schedule meeting with freya morningstar , unaccepted. He stares at the time, pauses to see if he could still make it, and then accepts. [break][break]

"15 minutes...still on time." he murmured as he read over the office number before grabbing an arm full of of files and bringing them with him. He's out the door, Hopper, his beloved Porygon, chirped after him opening and closing doors as he went. [break][break]
