A monster’s coming to Dewford. Luckily, the League took precautions. Civilians are asked to hide in the same bunkers they used last year. Sealed in tight, rescue teams will be able to get them out if Kyogre destroys the town. Even if the civilians are safe, that doesn’t make the prospect of what they’re about to do any less insane.[break][break]
Two of the finest operatives in the region have been sent to support AQUA’S newest inductee. With so much going on across the region, it’s all that could be mustered to repel Kyogre. With just the three of them, the chances that they can capture or kill the beast is slim. The name of the game is simple: endure. Endure until it gets bored, annoy it until it decides to go somewhere else.[break][break]
Let Kyogre know Dewford isn’t easy prey. Simple, right?[break][break]
Navy hates waiting. He can take a punch, but he hates the anticipation before the blow. He’d rather just get it over with, take his lick, go home. It reminds him of the last time they were together like this. That day, two of them had almost been killed by tera crystals. Navy himself had been forced to take a plunge into a bottomless pit.[break][break]
“Told you guys that Dewford had good doughnuts.” He wears a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes while he chews. Those eyes scan the horizon. His fliers soar the skies, searching for signs of the impending storm. Beneath the waves, his swimmers brave its territory. This is their home, and they’ll die before the let someone take it without a fight.[break][break]
“The old timers ‘round town are rich. One of ‘em fell in love with this Unovan doughnut chain. Decided he wanted to eat ‘em every day. Godspeed, I hope he doesn’t die of diabetes.”[break][break]
The wind almost blows his hat off his head. Standing on a pier so close to the sea, the wind is strong. Navy’s accepted what the media’s started to call him. He dresses the part of a cowboy. Building a brand isn’t so bad.[break][break]
“No sign of Dross’s buddy yet, by the way. Hope he gets here soon.”

Knowing the kind of task set ahead of him that day, Gunner opted out of partaking in doughnuts. If he survived this encounter, he would bring some home to celebrate.[break][break]

But that required surviving first.[break][break]

He peered through a pair of tactical binoculars brought for the occasion. The side was wide, and the sooner they spotted Kyogre on the horizon, the more time they had to act.[break][break]

"So what's the plan when it gets here, Navidson?" Gunner asked, keeping his gaze focused on the ocean.[break][break]

At his side, Enid, his black-furred Raichu, sat back on her haunches. His other Pokémon swam in the water below them or flew above alongside Navy's.

“Mmm. Maple bacon is better than I thought.” He said, finishing off a warm cakey donut and wiping his licked clean fingers. His philosophy opposite of Gunner after too many close counters. And if he crossed over to the Border today then all the better. [break][break]

He doesn't tell them he still dreams of the best sleep of his life. [break][break]

Joules beeps at the trio and their pokemon comrades. She sees nothing as of yet, and Paxton's borrowed instruments report nothing. The sea is violent, churning and moving erratically. All of it seemed to react to Kyogre's strange mood. The behemoth hidden in the depths of the sea.[break][break]

He turns over that day- the exercise with Kyogre in his mind. What the fuck went wrong? “Our intel said it was moving through here and the way the sea is acting seems to co firm it…just wish we knew what it was looking for.” He said to the other two. [break][break]

“Wonder what and think of this. Been so busy I haven't been able to confer with them.” [break][break]

Joules beeps again, this time faster and Paxton looks up at her. Waves begin to swell and the skies grow darker. Rain pours in sheets out of nowhere a d he shivers. Something primal grips his heart in ice as she gives a direction which he relays. “3 o'clock something-” he stops mid sentence as in the distance with the pitch of a wave comes the glowing, giant yellow eye. [break][break]

And he knows- he knows that this monster isn't looking at them. They don't matter in the grand scheme of things except to be proxies of its will when the time comes but- [break][break]

Gods above.

Does he feel such an instinctual, deep urge to run away as it surfaces partly before letting off a terrible roar and a violent ORIGIN PULSE. “Joules-” but she's already dropped in front of him and his compatriots with a PROTECT.

“Plan? We bloody Kyogre’s nose until it decides to go somewhere else.” As far as plans go, it’s simple. There’s no arrogance in his tone, he does not think their victory is a sure thing. All he knows is that it’s three of them versus a monster worshipped as a god. It’s a prospect that churns his stomach. At least the doughnuts help quell the fear.[break][break]
Matias’s name makes him bristle. A flash of anger shoots across the sheriff’s face, gone as quick as it’s appeared. A rematch between Groudon and Kyogre would destroy Dewford. Somehow, he doubts the Volatile would care. Anything to shake up the balance of power.[break][break]
Moments before the attack, after Joules’s beeping hitches, a Palafin surfaces. Toshinori frantically signals his trainer, trying to give the man a sign of his own. Kyogre is here. Rain starts to fall.[break][break]
“Help the fish Pokemon get away.” He orders the Palafin, “we’ll handle things up here.”[break][break]
From out of nowhere, a ghostly dragon materializes. Fafnir flashes the agents and Kyogre a malevolent grin. He’s Navy’s fastest flier. Today, they need all the speed they can get.[break][break]
Fafnir spreads a light screen out, augmenting Joules’s protective barrier with his own. Thin, beady eyes lock onto the god of the depths. Calculations rush through the dragon’s mind. Locked and loaded, he fires off a pair of Dreepy. The twin dragon darts trail across the sky, right towards the beast.[break][break]
The battle’s started.

Between the LIGHT SCREEN and the PROTECT, the three men and their Pokémon had enough defenses. Gunner was a shield, but sometimes defense meant drawing a sword instead.[break][break]

After the ORIGIN PULSE smashed against their barriers, causing him to flinch and duck away despite knowing they were safe, he stood straightened and gave his commands.[break][break]

"Go now, Enid, Viviane! Trompowsky Attack!"[break][break]

The Raichu leaped forward and off the pier completely. As she hit the raging ocean, Gunner's Wailord surfaced, catching the mouse on the tip of her enormous nose. The pair surged toward the rampaging Kyogre, Enid's yellow cheeks bristling with electricity.[break][break]

As soon as they neared, the Raichu retreated to the Wailord's blowhole. A WATER SPOUT launched her into the air, which she SURFED to close the gap between her and Kyogre. Viviane pulled back, but not too far.[break][break]

Then, without warning, a crackling SHADOW BOLT arced between the small mouse and the massive leviathan.

Luckily, Paxton is surrounded by talented, wherever their strengths may have come from. The blue beams crash against their barriers and he watching the shields ripple and crack against the weight. But somehow it all succeeds and the trio isn't blasted backwards. "HQ, this is Officer Concordas. Team is engaging Kyogre and beginning push back into the deeper ocean." He relayed, pressing his hand to an earpiece in his left ear. [break][break]

As the pokemon moved to position, Joules whirred preparing a MIRROR COAT as the Kyogre erratically began to smash limbs through the water and roar angrily. DRAGON DARTS piece flesh, and the strange SHADOW BOLT arcs over one of it's flippers and down the beast goes into the water to shake off the pin pricks of damage. A fly is a fly, but a swarm? Much more difficult to manage. [break][break]

The sea titan surfaces again, this time eerily silent as it casts AQUA RING on itself, pulsing with energy as it prepared for combat. Perhaps taking this a smidge more seriously than before. Or perhaps just instinctual at receiving any kind of pain, minor or not. [break][break]

It opens it's mouth, water draining into its giant maw. Paxton stares back at the void before Joules beeps a warning that's cut off by an explosion of cold as it blasts forth an ICE BEAM cutting a frozen line across the beach with enough speed to give him whiplash. It's all Joules can do to MIRROR COAT a portion of it back, deflecting ice in their own small line across the legendary's face. Paxton calls Arber to the scene. Joules can't focus on attack right now, too busy trying to keep the trio of humans alive. [break][break]

A blue Florges floats by Paxton's shoulders dusting him off flecks of ice off him that may have fallen before quietly floating in front of Joules and letting out a warning cry to her compatriots before blasting a wave of MAGICAL LEAF to further deter the beast from continuing it's attack. [break][break]

Comms crackle with static but the update is clear as day. "We'll endure, and hopefully this speaker they're dropping into the water to lure it back with Groudon's recordings will convince it to abandon the beach-" he yelled before Kyogre blasts a second ICE BEAM, this time at the water around itself aiming for the pokemon not on the beach, pestering it.

Fighting alongside these men makes him wish he’d pursued a career in the HBIC. Paxton and Gunner both know how to party. Standing still, he watches the battle play out. Five well-trained Pokemon do battle against a god. Five Pokemon dance on the edge of death.[break][break]
He has seen what this monster’s mortal enemy can do to Pokemon. Even as a confident smile graces his face, he knows this battle could turn against them at the drop of a dime.[break][break]
“Sneak.” He commands Fafnir, who really needs no instruction. Giggling, the dark dragon simply fades out of existence. His phantom force keeps Fafnir away from the inevitable retaliation by Kyogre. Let other valiant heroes weather those blows.[break][break]
“Looks like it’s showtime, Roland.” Navy’s second Pokemon emerges from its ball. There are many Iron Valiants in League custody after the two battles in Dewford. Navy wonders how many of them are solid chrome like Roland, or missing an arm.[break][break]
Roland emerges in a rosepetal bloom of electric crystals. A crown of lightning adorns his head. Before the knight of the dark future is a bridge made of ice, put there by Kyogre himself. Blade in hand, the knight skips across the ice like a stone. Step by step he runs where the brave dare not go.[break][break]
With a downward cut of his blade, the knight summons the heaven’s fury. A thunderbolt strikes the rogue god of the depths.

The ocean, already a tumult of crashing waves as a result of Kyogre's mere presence, boiled and frothed with the energy of battle. Gunner could barely see what was going on from his vantage point, let alone shout commands.[break][break]

All he could do was put his trust in his Pokémon and their rigorous training.[break][break]

Out in the middle of the sea, Viviane made her move. Using the momentum of the waves around her, she BOUNCED into the air. The enormous Wailord suspended above the rogue Kyogre, poised to crash down upon it, was truly a sight to behold.[break][break]

Gunner would remember it for a long time.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Enid SURFED with expert skill across the churning water, dodging beams of ice. As soon as she found an opening, she retaliated with another SHADOW BOLT.

Joules whirrs, magnets swirling about them as they try to heard the humans back further from the edge of the shore. They leave Arber at the edge amongst ice and foam as the little fairy type adds her power to the team at sea. With strange power, little blooms glow and dot around the turbulent oceans as she summoned a GRASS TERRAIN. Coating the ocean, the strange blooms and their aroma would hopefully keep her team standing. [break][break]

Joules puts to work while the Kyogre is being battered by electricity from both fronts. They beep giving warning, one which Paxton heeds by taking very obvious steps away from his partner. The Magnezone charged up before letting off a ZAP CANON. Under the storm, Kyogre screeches indignantly slamming flippers down and causing sudden waves to jump up leaving WHIRLPOOLS in its wake. [break][break]

As it does the fucking Wailord slams down onto the Kyogre pushing it underwater mid tantrum. “Nice.” Paxton uttered, turning his eyes as water surged the beach.

“Damn!” Like so many other curses of their language, damn can carry many meanings. Navy says it like a cheer. Watching their Pokemon go is like being in the nosebleed seats at a rock concert, right above a mosh pit.[break][break]
“We should do this more often.” Navy glances back at his town. The farther they push Kyogre back, the more his enthusiasm grows.[break][break]
Far off, beneath the waves, a recording of a growl plays. Kyogre’s ancient rival challenges the god of the sea. Sailors have their siren song. Kyogre has Groudon’s cry. Their enmity began when humanity did not yet exist. Their feud will outlive all three of these men and their Pokemon.[break][break]
He can get in a few licks before Kyogre takes off, at least. Roland seems to bounce up onto the Wailord. Poised on the massive Pokemon’s back, his logic engine calculates the best way to fall. They depart amicably, both falling towards the monster below. Roland dives into the whirlpool like they’re the gates of hell itself.[break][break]
Adorned by lightning, he sees a world ruled by thunderclouds. In that world, they call him the thunder god. Lightning gathers upon the edge of his blade. Plunging down, the world feels as if it is in perfect balance.[break][break]
Striking Kyogre, he feels the scales tip. Lightning explodes from his blade like steam from a high-pressure valve, accentuating the Wailord’s fall. Whirlpools rise up to take him. Roland is no creature of the sea.[break][break]
Luckily, Fafnir is there to rescue him. Reflective barriers gather along the edge of the sea. It gives Roland a platform to stand on. He jumps onto the ghostly dragon’s back.[break][break]
Not much longer now and the battle will be over. Back to the doldrum of everyday minutia for all of them.

Gunner could not help but echo Navy's sentiments as he watched their Pokémon drive back Kyogre. Laughing, he said to the gym leader in jest, "I don't think Kyogre will want a regular beating if it's from the three of us." [break][break]

But he was not opposed to the idea of spending more time with Navy. Paxton, on the other hand… [break][break]

Gunner had not yet talked with Paxton about the recent revelation of his tryst with . The HBIC kept both men busy with work, and even if that wasn't the case, Gunner did not trust himself to approach the subject without first beating the shit out of Paxton. [break][break]

So he said nothing. [break][break]

Meanwhile, his Pokémon continued to fight. But Kyogre seemed less interested in Dewford now, distracted by something deep underwater.

"Repel a giant whale's primal tantrums?" Paxton asked, arching an eyebrow as he saw the yellow beacons Kyogre had for eyes disappear under the waves. Hopefully, 's Wailord was ok. His ear piece comms to life. They're dropping the speaker, and blasting Groudon's call. [break][break]

The sky flashes with light from the Iron Valiant, and Paxton waits for both whales to resurface. Thunder and lightning crash down as the Kyogre resurfaces, letting out an angry war cry and turning its soul sucking, bright yellow eyes out to sea once more. Even leaving, it causes chaos, moving so quickly the sea rises and falls around it. The rain keeps pouring in sheets. Paxton is soaked through his wet weather gear but at least with wet hair it's easier to slick back and keep out of his face. He sees Gunner's Raichu and he sees Arber as well, blasting wave after wave of MAGICAL LEAF to make Dewford's shore as unappealing as she can. The blooms that still glow on the rough seas adding their healing power to the pokemon in direct combat. [break][break]

With less need for defense, Joules swaps to offense as well, adding her own fire power as she floated above the humans and began to fire up a massive ZAP CANNON against the beast, hoping to continue encouraging it to leave. Irritated as it may be, it's overtaken by its urges to respond to Groudon's challenge, somewhere in the middle of the ocean. Kyogre is taunted, lured away from Dewford with intermittent blasting of Groudon in the water, but it's rain storm continues a bit after its gone. [break][break]

"What the fuck happened to it?" he said in disbelief. All he knew from 's report was...something had corrupted the BLUE ORB? He mulled over how that was possible. Eventually Joules hovers above him, acting as a pseudo umbrella. "Thanks, bud." he said before the dual type beeped twice in response. [break][break]

He turned to after a moment of silence, enjoying the respite of the rain now that the threat was gone. "Hopefully, your beach tide isn't fucked for too long." he said, looking at the mess of ice and ocean debris left unnaturally deep into the shore. "Maybe you'll find something worth your while. Just need a metal detector." Joules imitates one, and he snorts.

He’s just a white blood cell in the grand scheme of things.[break][break]

Holding up an umbrella, the Greninja protects Dewford’s greatest treasure: its doughnuts. Perhaps now, with the fighting done, Gunner will help himself to a doughnut.[break][break]
“Come on down to Dewford anytime.” When Navy looks to Paxton, the agent is afforded a sight few ever see from Navy: fear. True fear. “But uh…leave the paperwork at HQ. Gunner breathed a sigh of relief when Kyogre finally disappeared. He looked at the helpful Greninja before breaking out into a grateful smile and taking a doughnut from the box. It was a little soggy when he took a bite, but the flavor was incredible. [break][break]

"You're right, these are really good," Gunner said to Navy after chewing and swallowing that first mouthful. [break][break]

After finishing the treat and brushing the crumbs from his hands, he recalled his Pokémon. Then he turned to his friends, for one did not face a terrifying levitation of the sea together without forging that bond. [break][break]

"I'm ready to go when you two are."

"Sure." he said before looking over at Navy, arching an eyebrow before scoffing at him. "Aren't you a cop? You should know better Navidson. It protects you as much as it does others." is his response as strains the rain from his hair and begins to retie it. [break][break]

Joules beeps as shaky couple of beeps, as if laughing at their trainer. Paxton gives a nod at Gunner. "Let's go see 'em then. They'll be relieved we're past it all." For now.
