everything happened in a moment, but time slowed down for kyle during the few seconds of risk he took.

sacred fire seared from entei's mouth, accompanied by his own that had been fueled by the blood dripping down a long cut across his arm. while his was normally destructive by nature, entei's mastery over these flames allows to tap into its properties for healing.

he allows the legend's flames to infect his own, swallowing embers of red as fuel to burn through the kyogre's own corruption. the mysterious nature of ho-oh's fire permeates through. it was there that kyle feels that kyogre manages a moment of clarity.

but what was one cell to an entire body?

the next thing he sees is him with entei on an island formed by his smeargle's z-move. navy's voice rings as he gets himself up from lying down. he draws his arm in front of him, noticing the scars have been cauterized and healed by the fire, before turning to the sheriff.

"you asked me to go, and i cooked."

his response was nonchalant, but the subsequent smirk on his lips betrays the act.

"when games describe something as sacred, what properties do you usually associate it with?" he quizzes navy.

"i woke up with this." he takes out a knife, dark as the night, and uses it to chip away at the shield embedded on the stone and ice.

he continues to chip away at it as he answers the question.

"they could've since we haven't seen anything like the darkest day since then," he answers. "but even if they weren't, i don't think it's right to blame the strong for not doing the work for the weak."

he strikes the knife from necrozma's crystalline body deep into the stone, his attempt more forceful than the last.

"you definitely should understand out of all people. that's why i vouched for you to get in on aqua despite not being an avatar."

another harsh one strikes. it finally chips away from the shape, cracking away the edges of the shield. the only thing left to do was to take it out of the mold, which kyle invites navy to do himself with a flick of his head.

"if you cannot trust to have a hero save you, just be the hero yourself! childish, i know, but hey, if it works, it works."

it was the creed of kyle during his reign as the king of motostoke, as well as gabriel navidson.

slowly, she clues him in on her place in the region with her words. these were surface level information, but they allow someone to relate to her with just a few words.

whatever she shares was taken in by kyle with great interest.

"so that's why i've never seen you around before!" her being new to rangering at that time was then news to him. "usually, people who volunteer for that kind of work who have always done so, and you get to see the same faces over time."

but if she stepped up in ranks since then, it makes the conversation easier. kyle, however, wasn't sure how to railroad the topic, though yuina does give him a convenient excuse to slide it in with her question.

"something like that. have you heard of aqua?" he asks.

he guesses she's from another region who went to hoenn for something else entirely, only to get swept up by the thrill of the supernatural happening all over the region. this was common occurrence for most of the region's visitors after all.

with the open portal, kyle releases each captured jumpluff back. there would be two that would eventually remain in the room, forgotten until the silvally plays with them later, but that was background detail that wasn't meant to be important.

"y-yeah." he responds to noah as the last of the jumpluff was released. "who knows if it came back with kyurem or not, but..."

kyle grabs the sygna suit that sat with coats and scarves on the basement couch, empowering the smeargle's control over the portal. it grows larger in size, enough for him to jump into the hole.

wrapped around his arm, he takes his smeargle along. with his free hand, he offers to pull noah with him for an adventure.

"wanna see if there's anything exciting over this side?" he asks noah with the invitation. "it'll be like a date! i have chrom with me as always for a quick trip back anyways."

his solgaleo never leaves his person ever since he acquired it as a cosmog. perhaps it was one of the reasons why it took him a while to get the actual gifts from ho-oh's avatarship.

seeing what happens in front of him forces his brows to furrow, baiting his fingers to pinch the bridge of his nose. he could offer sympathy for Navy, but he is reminded that logic was neither his nor matias' strong suit.

personality alone, there would be no backing down from both of them once the spark was ignited.

"i'm guessing you told him your reason too, and he didn't listen back."

he lets matias handle the illusions of the past while situating himself between the core and matias, minimizing the effects of the radiation to the volatile.

"was there something he could have done that could have gotten you to stop?" he asks matias. "just so we can avoid these kinds of things happening again."

after testing best buddy ol' pal Navy for aqua with a multitude of interrogations disguised as friendly banter and talks, he made his way to give Isaac Merlo an impromptu one after finding out his suicune friend during resurfaced treasures. the offers were simply shortcuts for the directions they already took off to, speeding up the course to whatever finish line they wanted to reach.

"i'm talking answering for yourself." kyle puts it bluntly for josh.

"gym leaders are usually busier than elite four, believe it or not. that's why a lot of them take extra responsibilities even if they don't have to."

on its core, the elite four were really just glorified soldiers that were decorated as the regions best of the best. they get to influence the region with invitations to important meetings as privilege, sure, but at the end of the day, the decision doesn't end with them.

"unfortunately, unlike them, you aren't sure how to have a healthy balance between work and personal life. you'll likely overwork yourself, become a detriment, then frustrate yourself and it'll all just spiral down from that, but that's just my take."

kyle takes the clutter from the packaging that came with josh's gifts and neatly folds it away.

"you like these people. they may not have the same level of ambition as you, but they're still important to keep hoenn running. maybe it's when you shift your priorities to something general, like being helpful for the region and its people, from something specific, like getting to elite four, that maybe you can understand yourself what was missing."

he walks over to where the trash was and crams the box in.

"minor league leader josh had a better chance of passing the screening," he informs him. ironic, given that the past josh aimed low and only cared about raikou. "you definitely have a shot."

"i don't think you get the metaphor if i'm the sugar." as far as the dynamic between them goes, he's certain that matias was the one who goes out of his way to be affectionate.

as he watches his manectric grit its teeth into a snarl with sands forming a shell over its electricity, kyle goes for the safer play between the options he has to escape the predicament.

"rain dance, cormag." he instructs from behind.

rain clouds form overhead with a carol-like song from the manectric, forcing precipitation within the gym's enclosure. it starts drizzling all over the battlefield before they rumble and darken in response to matias' manectric's thunder.

kyle supposed it was a nice side effect, since he mostly wanted it to free his own manectric from the sand tomb by loosening each grain of sand by weighing it down with water.

"works for me," was his jovial, yet nonchalant, response.

making it up to him doesn't come up for kyle since most of his encounters are one-offs, though he supposed if this person were to get involved on hoenn's playground, he'd eventually run to him again.

the trail back is easy to spot with the broken branches and trampled shrubs. at some point on the trail, signs of smack down can be ascertained, perhaps used by terrakion to drop the poachers and their pokemon from the trees.

"well, a rush was certainly the right move, but..."

when they eventually reached the destination, the poachers have fallen back to their camp. cages filled with sedated pokemon were stacked on top of each other while a temporary settlement was formed around a clearing. a fainted zoroark in the plain view suggested it was hidden by an illusion.

his terrakion, after suggestively taking out the dark-type, seemed to have been cornered by reinforcements from the other side. a brute bonnet, a hisuian decidueye and a kartana have placed the pokemon on its back foot.

time shifts, and seamlessly transitions the current scene to the next event.

the sound of war and battle sings in kyle's ears as he subconsciously finds himself smiling at the surprisingly nostalgic scene. he was told he was a king once upon a time, and at the moment, he felt it.

"i'm... i'm back?"

the words take him by surprise. the feeling was there, but the mind does not comprehend. having been one of the people who barely remember galar, confusion strikes kyle. he doesn't seem perturbed at the moment, however.

"zamazenta!" words subconsciously spew out of his mouth at this point, alongside a reactionary turn. he finds nothing but a shield that resembles the one it carried."oh."

he points at it for his ninetales to freeze the rocks surrounding it in an attempt to dislodge it. a strike from his heel displays a pitiful attempt to free the shield from its confinement.

"you were in galar too, right?" kyle asks navy as he attacks the weakened integrity of the stone. "do you feel a sense of nostalgia too, like being here just puts you on the same high as being in a dream? or is it just me?"

kyle has always been the type to get sentimental, like a child on christmas eve. he rarely shows it, but at this moment, an enthusiastic smile on his expression was almost out of character.

despite all the whining and complaining he does, kyle stays. he clicks his tongue, but even under these circumstances, navy's opening provides him with enough ideas on how to approach the situation.

"smeargle, z-move!"

amid the howl of the raikou and the tailwind from the suicune, the smeargle performs its role. despite being over the water, the ground shakes from underneath.

a z-move tectonic rage that spawned from precipice blades adds another layer of novelty with the interaction. earth spikes from underneath cement the kyogre in place, doubling up on the dhelmise's effort.

it wouldn't be the crux of kyle's show, however.

a whistle follows, and then a shout. "up top!"

a blur zooms past everyone, snatching kyle up with the speed of the northern winds and strength of lightning that barely breaks the tension of the water's surface with each stride. the next moment shows the champion and entei fighting against the momentum to stay atop the target. the glint of a knife shines even amid the heavy rains.

"let's go!"

crimson stains the kyogre before entei engulfs the area with sacred fire. kyle's own contribution comes sooner, smiting the god with the same story that ho-oh's legend foretells.

when in a pinch, close to death, or when killed, kyle can SUMMON A CALAMITY (an cataclysmic field of flame, thunder and rain) that scorches a large area around him. those caught in the area may become BURNED, PARALYZED, or FROZEN (up to moderator discretion or discussion with thread partners)

"oi. i'm actually as low maintenance as it can get," he'd retort to evelyn silph. "i feel bad sometimes, but you can really only blame yourself if you agreed to get on it with me, right?"

in the midst of defending himself, he forgets to name noah faber for eve, but he supposed he can always learn about it from her siblings later.

his eyes manage to see a crowd forming in front of stone tablets that were supposedly draconid equivalent of zodiac signs. he never cared about them, but he supposed he finds himself curious on what she thinks about the sibling that she didn't come into the party with.

"do you want to go check out our readings?" kyle doesn't believe in them, but they are pretty fun. "i have a friend from blackthorn that was into superstitious stuff like those. you're into romantic stuff like that, right?"

he fixes the santa hat on his head and then offers his arm to her, as if to escort her to that part of the room. what he wears isn't befitting the aesthetic, but what he does do does.

the sip of alcohol makes him flinch, as if his tongue wasn't used to the sophisticated stuff.

invites her to look at their horoscope or some shit

"reminds me of someone i know," he throws back to matias given his judgement. "if there's anyone who can understand, it should be you, right?"

relicanth. the florst. the borders. a lot of them stem from a similar reasoning as far as kyle can tell.

unironically, matias' purpose was the most cliched. in a fucked up sense of justice, it turns all the way back to the other direction. disillusioned was a good word to describe his situation.

"he talks to people, like a lot. he had a similar job that relied on connections before he worked as a gym leader, you know. i don't really think that's your expertise, so it's better to have him around for it."

in a cruel twist of events, an illusion of Navy appears from the hallucinations conjured by the environment, ready for vengeance.

"ooh, speak of the devil." if only they can appease him with milk and cookies.

this was their supposed dynamic when kyle got him to aqua's side: a shield. his ninetales' aurora veil wasn't supposed to be the main defensive component in the fight, but rather, just a tool to get his shield in a better position.

the snow from the snow warning starts to grow stronger. winds build up as temperature drops for both dragons.

"ugh, fine. he can win! watch this cool move though."

keeping the dialga in place was enough for frost to accumulate around its steel plating. the longer that the kommo-o was able to stand, the more ice starts to crust all over the legend.

when snow has seemingly invaded every crevice of its body, the ninetales howls. sheer cold takes grip almost immediately, encasing the dialga from the ground up with ice, until only its head remains uncovered.

the moment it stops its steel beam to react to the ninetales' attack, its entire face gets covered as well.

"do you think it'll take long before it cracks?" he asks navy. "it isn't like kyurem ice after all."
