How long had Amber been waiting in her penthouse apartment for someone to answer her ad? She counted on her hot pink nails, and frowned as the number totaled several weeks. Six, to be exact.

Well. That was hardly flattering for a poster slapped all over Hoenn with her name on it.

Nor was it fair, in Amber's mind. She had herself been part of the contest circuit as a child with her once-Eevee for many years in Johto, even if all her awards were worthless now that she had changed her name, representation, and region.

It wasn't as if Amber didn't have ample experience to bring to choreography, though. Perhaps her language in the ad had been too aggressive, too flashy, too... Amber. In Johto, that fame had been considered radioactive by more than one person, several times over.

"Georgette Bluebottle," Amber read aloud, her eyebrows lifting in approval. If it was a stage name, it was a fantastic one -- one worth being mildly jealous over. That alone would do well with more shallow judges, perhaps squeaking in a point or two. "Oh, and her Pokemon are darling. She'll do nicely. Where is she again... Sootopolis?" Even as she said the name of the city aloud, she wrinkled her nose. Oh, no. Some grungy Sootopolis warehouse wouldn't do at all.

Slateport Park seemed a nice compromise between the two. And wouldn't it be nice to give their Pokemon a little room to breathe? Amber's little Houndour, Dante, would enjoy it she was sure. And frankly, he could stand to have a little training himself.

Donned in an expensive coat of black-and-red Swellow feathers around her shoulders, even those who didn't recognize the infamous Johto celebrity could look upon Amber and see she had money. To the casino itself and its more seedy regulars, Amber was sure she looked a perfect mark: young, dumb and blonde, without the good sense to pretend not to be any of those things. [break]
Not that Amber minded. High stakes, after all, were the point of gambling.[break]
"Don't you think this place is divine, Nyx?" Amber commented idly to the Absol that matched her every step. Grand Cove Casino might be considered ostentatious by those with a more discerning palate, but Amber reveled in its sparkling drama. Her Absol merely glanced up at her, as if resigned to accept her owner's tacky taste, but sweetly rubbed against her legs to forgive her for this latest of Amber's many, many transgressions.[break]
Normally it would be Amber's Umbreon, Luficer, trailing her but not today. An Absol spelled misfortune for those she didn't like, and that was in itself a type of luck for everyone else. Not that Amber was superstitious per se, but why not arrange things in your favor if you can, just in case? Already a few wary eyes had passed over them both, conflicted by this combination of easy money and a Pokemon of ill portents.[break]
It was then that Amber saw nina larson -- a pretty young thing sitting at the nearby blackjack table, a Togepi chirping in her hands. A little rough around the edges, perhaps, but Amber preferred people that way. They were more interesting than those with too much polish.[break]
Without a word, Amber slipped into the seat beside Nina, and Nyx curled up at her Mistress's feet on silent command. "Deal me in," she said, her slick black nails tapping against the table as she winked to her new competitor. "I hear this table's lucky."

God, Amber loved the desert heat. The glistening of sweat on her brow, the golden spill of light across the desert sands, the sensation of the sun's rays soaking on her bare skin--all of it was a welcome reprieve from the coddling chill of air conditioning. Any paparazzi searching for a classic Lenoir scandal would likely turn tail and ditch her at the possibility of a rogue sandstorm alone.[break][break]
It was primarily for that last reason that Amber had decided to venture into the desert for her mission, though she cited her love of snakeskin boots as her rationale for agreeing to it.[break][break]
And it was true, Amber did love a good snakeskin boot.[break][break]
"Awfully quiet here, isn't it, Lucifer?" she blithely said to the Umbreon standing guard at her side. Impractical as it was, Amber had chosen to wear her signature black miniskirt to match him for this curious outing, the sun be damned. If Lucifer seemed annoyed at the environs, he was far too proud to show it, tossing his furred head as if to give his bored assent. If she'd left Lucifer at home or even in his Pokeball, there would have been no end to the Umbreon's pouting, even if he would prefer to be her shadow in a cooler climate. Lucifer was a miserly, stubborn creature, and Amber loved him fiercely for it.[break][break]
"It's nice," Amber continued to herself, bouncing on her wedge heels -- another bizarre fashion statement entirely unsuited to the locale -- as she snapped a quick selfie with her mobile phone, two fingers parted in victory. She swiped the screen, frowning as she saw no mobile service in range, and shrugged it off with an exaggerated laugh. "There's such a relief in seeing no one for miles and miles, don't you think?" Then as if remembering something, she grinned impishly and turned to the Kalosian nobleman behind her, perfectly out of her camera's frame. "Well," she teased. "Almost no one."[break][break]
This company, too, Amber didn't mind despite her protests. Her blonde hair had been tied up into girlish pigtails to free her neck from the sticky touch of hair, skull ornaments winking in the light; even this wasn't necessary to establish how much younger and more immature she was than her companion, however. [break][break]
"Is this your first time charming snakes, Lord Valentine?" Her lips turned up into a smirk, as if conveying a joke between them. "Or do you prefer to skin them and have it done with?"

Do you have any idea how long it's been since I've written a fan letter? What a thrill to role reverse! Shame I haven't much to say.

Today is a dull, dreary day of fogged windowpanes and drab passersby shuffling along with Pokemon in mittens and scarves. Not that I blame you for it, even though your name is suspiciously implicating. Hm, hm, hm. Should I wish for better weather this holiday season~? That seems like it'd spoil a lot of boring people's sugarplum dreams of a White Christmas, so I'll be good and keep my complaints to myself.

I'm not always naughty, you know, despite what the tabloids might tell you. Keep them in the dark though, would you? They're desperate to have a pretty devil to gawk at, and I aim to please.
