Dante was a trusty Houndoom in many respects; he had given Amber a more than fleeting appreciation for Fire-type Pokemon, although her love of Dark-types remained paramount in all matters. [break][break]Amber had scheduled this little walk in hopes of finding likewise helpful companions, and--let us be honest--was more than a little influenced by her bodyguard's favored choice of companion: the Arcanine.

Though she never would say so.

"So much smoke and ash," Amber said with a grimace, wrinkling her nose. "Ugh, I hope we find something good out here."

"Oh, c'mon!" Amber laughed at the lilac-haired woman's incredulous expression. "I'm losing so much! Gambling at least the exact same amount of me is fair enough, isn't it?"

To Amber's pleasure, however, the woman agreed to the terms. How fun.

At the three statements given, Amber drummed her fingers on the table, letting out a soft exhale as she considered the options. "You look too young to be twenty-eight and you definitely have better taste than to live in Unova, but I'm going to go with recently divorced. That is a hand that's never seen a ring, I'm sure of it."

Before Kyla could reply, however, Amber's pocket buzzed loudly with the theme indicating her publicist's number. "Ugh, what is it, Cynthia?" Amber barked at the phone, her good mood dissipating instantly. Then, just as suddenly, the smile returned to her lips with a shrill squeal of excitement. "You booked me the cover of WHAT? Oh my GOD! That's amazing, I love you. I'll be right there, hold on~!"

Snapping the sleek black cellphone shut, Amber turned to Kyla with an apologetic grin. "You seem like a great way to spend an evening, but I've gotta jet and pay the bills. Look, why don't you keep my chips either way? I don't have time for any more games." She winked, pushing the remainder of her winnings to Kyla with a wide smile. "Have fuuuuun~!"

By the time she left the casino door, Amber had already forgotten to find out whether or not the statement was a truth or a lie.

"You never answer your phone," Amber pouted, playing at offense as she twirled her hair. "What if something happened to me while I was waiting?" The idea that anything could potentially happen to Yoshi, however, seemed to completely slip the starlet's self-obsessed mind.

After all, Yoshi had left the life of crime behind years and years ago to run a security business. Could paperwork really be more important than her number one client (and best friend)? Rude.

"I could have slipped into the Magikarp pond," Amber continued, quite literally fishing for sympathy as Lucifer rolled his eyes. She dangled a foot near the water as if to tempt fate, wobbling ever so slightly as she contemplated how much she should commit to the bit.

At the proffered box, however, Amber's eyes lit up like stars, all slights and potential passive-aggressive antics forgotten. "Yoshi! You shouldn't have!" she squealed, taking the box into her hands and opening it. Upon the sight of the strawberry daifuki, she let out a delighted cry, the Umbreon at her feet dancing at the scent of the familiar treat. "Ohmygawd," she said, munching loudly with all the grace of a Lickitung at a rotating sushi bar, "I haven't had this since we were kids! So guhd!"

Swallowing her daifuki and gracelessly wiping her mouth on the back of her hand (money didn't always come with manners), Amber handed one of the strawberry treats to Yoshi, and another one to Lucifer for the Umbreon to lick clean. "We have so much to do!" she exclaimed, tugging Yoshi along despite how much comically smaller the blonde was in comparison.

"What should we do first? Lilycove mall has New Year's sales, and we could make wishes at the shrine, or get more food...! Oh! And there's fireworks later!"

On and on Amber babbled, listing all the activities she'd always wanted to do with someone on New Year's but never quite had the chance to enjoy. Any and all of them would be a delight.

So long as Yoshi wanted to do them with her.

"You look nice, by the way," Amber said, glancing almost shyly at Yoshi's new clothes. "Different, but nice." Then hurriedly, the words coming out so fast she can't think straight, "You definitely won't embarrass me if paparazzi take pictures. Like, haha, what if they think we're DATING? Wouldn't that be so funny?"

Why did she say that? Why would any regular person say that? A hot blush stole across her cheeks.

Amber should have just drowned herself in the Magikarp pond.

The ocean stretched out before Amber in choppy, grey-blue waves, whipped into a frenzy by the chill winter winds. She shielded her face from the sting of salt and sea as the breeze sharply stung her eyes, pouting with a low whimper as she buried her face into her scarf. Why was everything so much colder near the water? Thank goodness for her Umbreon-themed earmuffs.

Normally, Amber loved the beach. Suntanning in a bikini, drinking a fruity drink with an umbrella in one hand, and leaning back beneath the shade of a parasol was her idea of a great time. Wandering the beach bundled up in her coat and boots, stabbing at sandy trash with a pick-up-stick? Not so much.

"This is the worst thing Cynthia has made me do yet," she complained to her Umbreon, Lucifer. This accusation was neither true nor fair; Amber's publicist had most certainly forced Amber to do far more difficult things in the past than picking up some flotsam and jetsam from the beach. Exactly one journalist from the local newspaper had chosen to cover the community clean-up, and frankly, Amber had been doing her best to avoid him and his camera.

"If someone takes pictures of me they're going to be so, so ugly," she continued to whine, lifting a dingy piece of plastic with a frown. Lucifer nuzzled her legs in sympathy, helpfully holding up the bag for her to deposit the trash. "Who wants to be photographed cleaning up dirty cigarette butts and wrappers? This is so stupid. God."

Admittedly, there was far more trash than Amber had expected, and many more willing volunteers that allegedly weren't strong-armed into participating by their publicists. Most of the participants seemed excited to take part, dutifully removing the various bottles and plastic bags that had been buried in the shoreline. T-shirts that said things like "KEEP SLATEPORT CLEAN" and "PROTECT OUR WATER POKEMON" were visible and prominent.

"Show-off do-gooders," Amber muttered under her breath; surely no one would do this willingly?

Welcome to my plotter~! This could be a really funny dynamic in a lot of ways (omg the dragon pajamas). Amber's bad at making friends and generally sulks or pitches a fit when she doesn't get her way, in true diva fashion. I don't know if you were thinking of a mission, but a silly idea popped into my head when looking at this one: a girl in dragon pajamas accidentally photobombing an edgy Pokemon fashion shoot on-location would be hilarious. We witness the birth of a brand new fashion trend: PAJAMAS IN DAYLIGHT! Is this the new "IT" statement?!

Beautiful Disaster. Emancipated from controlling pageant mom as a teenager and became goth-inspired Amber Lenoir with her Umbreon. Her fortune and fame went to her head with many scandals, including public drunkenness, infamous temper tantrums, gambling addiction, and generally unprofessional set behaviour.[break][break]

Addicted to the Selfie. Spends more time on social media talking to people than in person. Obsessed with "likes."

Amber Lenoir is not a great or even good person, but she is not a criminal mastermind. Her crimes are generally those of indecency; her attitude needs a serious adjustment, but what else can you expect from a disaster child star? Her attempts to help the League are generally born out of a desire to rehabilitate her bad girl image, but they are appreciated nonetheless.

Amber Lenoir herself isn't an issue. It's her yakuza bodyguard, who worse, is rumored to be her yakuza girlfriend: yoshiro shioda. Any Rocket who wants to mess with Amber runs the risk of upsetting the Shioda clan. Amber herself is completely unaware that the criminal operations of the Shiodas are still running, and believes that Yoshi is now living on the straight and narrow running a security company. The truth is that Yoshi is still cracking skulls, and good at it.

The Shioda Clan.

Amber's childhood involved her mother being in debt up to her eyeballs to the Shioda yakuza clan. She would be held "hostage" at the Shioda mansion to force her mother to pay up, but for years, Amber believed the Shiodas to merely be her friends. During this time she made a bond with "Junya" -- who later would become yoshiro shioda.[break][break] When the Shiodas supposedly were all killed, Amber lost her one and only friend, until a Voltorb explosion put her into a coma in Hoenn. This drew Yoshi out of hiding to reveal herself to Amber, and to become her new bodyguard.[break][break]
Amber is secretly in love with Yoshi and doesn't know how to express it. She is also more or less breaking even financially due to her terrible, terrible money decisions.[break][break]

Aegis of Valentine.

When Amber's mother was parading her daughter around as her main source of income, Ms. Berry tried to bribe the young CEO Athanasios Valentine to use her in his branding efforts. This backfired spectacularly; unimpressed with the narcissism of Amber's mother and feeling pity for the clearly screwed-up Amber, he quietly began to help Amber begin her emancipation with his vast resources and fortune. [break][break]This is kept fairly quiet, due to Amber's public persona being less than sparkling and Reign Industries requiring an immaculate reputation. Views him as an older brother, and disregards his advice as often.

Amber fiddled with the luxurious black and gold threads of her elaborate kimono, tapping furiously at her cell phone. "Where are you, Junya?" she muttered, her sandaled feet shuffling in place. Or Yoshi. That was how yoshiro shioda had requested she be called now, she reminded herself, repeating the name under her breath over and over. Yoshi, Yoshi, Yoshi.

Were it not for the distracted and impatient mien with which Amber held herself, she would be a breathtaking vision to behold standing at the Magikarp pond beneath boughs of wintry blossoms; her long blonde hair, normally tied up in impish partial pigtails, had been tied back into a bun complete with an ornamental comb, fashioned to resemble an Umbreon. The embroidering of the ebon kimono itself mimicked the motifs with an Umbreon and Arcanine chasing one another in a field of golden flowers.

Both pieces of her ensemble had been custom designs commissioned by Amber from one of the designers she was on better terms with, and she had handsomely paid him for it. Everything about today had to be perfect; it was the first time she had someone to celebrate the New Year with, since... since she couldn't recall, really.

"She's my bodyguard," Amber complained to no one in particular, fingers twirling anxiously in her hair. "Shouldn't she answer my texts faster? Ughhh."

Bodyguard. Of course. That was the only reason her childhood friend was spending this festival with her. The brief memory of Junya's touch on her skin elicited a shiver up and down her spine, but Amber dismissed it.

It went without saying that Amber had been on dates before with some of the most good-looking celebrities in Johto. Whatever she was feeling, it had to be... well, not that. She hadn't felt attracted to any of the most desirable bachelors and bachelorettes in the region. Why would Junya--no, Yoshi--be any different?

Amber bit her lip in thought then stopped with a horrified gasp, holding her hand mirror up to make sure her crimson lipstick hadn't smudged on her teeth. A typical reaction for seeing a friend, no doubt. There was no denial here whatsoever.

Did it count, if your only experience with a true friend was also your only experience with a crush?

"I don't co-headline anything, Cynthia. I'm not doing this stupid photoshoot." Amber Lenoir tapped her foot impatiently, scowling at the hot pink flyer with her name sitting below Melody Miro's in smaller font. The audacity.

"Do you have any idea the political capital I just spent on you?" her publicist said, her bespectacled face purpling. "Do you have any idea how ludicrously in-demand Melody Miro is?! The woman has a stellar resume in Hoenn--one that, frankly, you don't."

Of which Amber was more than well aware. Ever the diva, however, the knowledge of the other celebrity's fame was something that inspired Amber to sulk more than anything else; to put it bluntly, she did poorly with others being the center of attention.

"You can be such a child, Amber. For once, stop thinking about yourself, and think about your brand. This isn't Johto." Cynthia glared at the young woman, yanking the cell phone from her hands. Glancing down at the screen, the publicist's eyebrows rose at the series of texts to yoshiro shioda .

Unimpressed, Cynthia handed the phone back to the whining girl and said, without a trace of sympathy, "Get ready to do your job. You know, the thing you do that millions of other people would like to do. And for Celebi's sake, be nice to Melody. She's actually a decent person."

So that was that. The Sugar and Spice photoshoot was set and scheduled.

Amber was utterly terrible at befriending most women, particularly those in her own field. Her mother had trained her to view them all as enemies out to sabotage one another to win an audition, which as one might imagine, wasn't conductive to forming successful female friendships.

Dressed in spiky black leather with high-heeled boots, the blonde was a stark contrast to the pretty pink-haired woman scrolling on her phone, a Corsola at her feet. Inhaling deeply, Amber raised a hand and attempted a smile as her faithful Umbreon, Lucifer, trotted at her side. "Hi! You're Melody, right? I'm Amber. Thanks for having us!"

She could do this. She could be nice.
