Felix really doesn't seem one for conversation - whether by choice or by the rearing of some kind of anxiety - but luckily for him, Cefin was used to working with introvert-types. He was a scientist, for Arceus' sake. Excluding outliers like Ceri Glynn, most science types he knew tended to be quiet and preferred to keep to themselves. Someone like Felix was actually much further in Cefin's comfort zone than an extrovert was.[break][break]

"That's why I moved here, too. For work, that is. Hoenn has a wonderful variety of wildlife - especially the sealife." He smiles at his dark-haired gardening partner.[break][break]

They pull to the side and towards the soil, and Cefin knelt gently beside Felix to investigate further. The soil was still a little wet, by the way it interacted with Felix's fingerprint - seemed quite perfect.[break][break]

"I don't imagine we'll need to spread them too far from one another. About here and here, I'd say" He gently pokes a finger into the soil in two places, about thirty centimetres from each other. Cefin shrugs his bag from his shoulders and unzips it, pulling a small trowel out. "You can borrow mine if you didn't bring one" He offers, holding the trowel out handle-first.

There was little time to process his assailant's words before everything started happening at once. Xerneas - truly, really Xerneas - and then a tree, great prickling thorns like a cage. Water starts spewing in from burst pipes, pooling around their feet. What was he going to do about this?![break][break]

Cefin grips a pokéball at his waist and clicks the release button. Instead of something big and powerful, Watercress the Poliwag lands on the floor. Wordlessly he starts to Water Absorb, preventing too much of the flooding from getting past it's soggy little body.[break][break]

"I don't want to have to fight you" Cefin warns, a little shakily. It's true, though, he really doesn't. His words don't come from some cool-action-movie-hero-esque I don't wanna fuck you up thing - he just really didn't enjoy fighting, or even battling most of the time.[break][break]

As if silently called, Sweetgum the Tangrowth squeezes through the lab door and stands behind his trainer, his huge vined body towering over the dainty little scientist in front of him. The building groaned in pain at the thick thorns that were, frankly, probably the only thing still holding it up. "This is... one last warning. Please. Just take whatever you want and go"

Cefin couldn't help but be infatuating, though utterly oblivious to it. The gentility and softness and the general ability to hold a conversation with just about anyone as though they were the most important person in the world definitely drew attention. To Cefin, it was just normality - he'd never been the type to see himself as special, interesting, or even overly attractive. The idea that others might was beyond his reckoning entirely.[break][break]

The little back-and-forth between Warren and his Torracat drew a chuckle from Cefin. "A great deal of cat pokémon are just as sticky and stubborn, you know. Something of a shared trait"[break][break]

It doesn't take long before a Kricketune pops it's red head out from under the house, at which point Cefin releases his own pokémon to assist.[break][break]

"Bedtime, please, Gwyn" He asks, as Gwynedd the Vivillon takes flight towards the critter and releases scales of SLEEP POWDER from his wings, sending the Kricketune yawning, stumbling, and eventually collapsing into a deep nap.[break][break]

One down! How many more could even be squeezed under there, anyway?

A single fin juts up into the air, cutting through the surf like a knife. Cornflower shifts her weight a little, uncomfortable by the predator's presence, but a soft pat from Cefin is enough to calm her. Just one, after all... a single Sharpedo? Easy enough to deal with, between the two of them.[break][break]

He goes to call for Gwynedd, only for CJ to surface and, behind them, more fins rise. Up to five, then, all at once - a darting march towards the relocating Corsola. "Oh, Arceus..." slips out.[break][break]

"CJ, stay close, if you can - Sharpedo rarely go for humans specifically, but they may get you mixed up with a pokémon" - was that particularly comforting? To Cefin it might have been, but he'd studied Sharpedo in the past. Hopefully CJ knew enough about the brutal pokémon to quell their own fears.[break][break]

"If we can distract them long enough for the Corsola to move on, we should be fine" Sharpedo could swim fast, but their stamina was their biggest weakness. If the swarming corals got far enough for the herd of Sharpedo to see the chase as not worth it, they should be fine. As for now... they had to put in a little work.[break][break]

"Gwyn, poison powder"[break][break]

The Vivillon coats the waters between them and the oncoming swarm with thick flakes of poison, sticking to the surf and froth like dandruff.

The gentle blush that has settled upon Cefin's cheeks and nose comes from the sunrays, giving him a slightly flushed look in the brightness of the midday sun. It made him smile to see CJ's reaction when he told them there was no need to call him professor or doctor or anything of the like. They were equals here, after all, working together. He didn't want CJ to feel like they had anything to prove.[break][break]

"Ah, of course! That's exciting. Work out in the field is much more important than labwork and classes. Though don't tell anyone I told you as much" He chuckles, letting one of his hands gently touch the surface of the water as they continued to travel with the school of Corsola.[break][break]

Things turn from peacefully quiet, to suspiciously so. At the other side of the group, just as CJ did, Cefin notices a darkness forming, barely visible from the surface. Something was heading towards the group, likely a predator, and Cefin didn't want to wait around only to find out too late.[break][break]

He throws the pokéball at his side out, releasing his Vivillon to the fresh sea air where it fluttered just above the waves. "Gwynedd, be ready in case you need to supersonic"[break][break]

Cefin isn't quite sure how well CJ can hear him whilst they're beneath the waves, but he calls down nonetheless.[break][break]

"Can you see anything down there, CJ?"
