Not much of a conversationalist indeed, but Cefin truly didn't mind. He'd spent plenty of time with pokemon who quite literally couldn't speak to him at all, so to carry a conversation with someone a little short-tongued wasn't the worst thing in the world.[break][break]

Plus, there was Cefin's inner nerd-who-still-quite-liked-a-bad-boy that couldn't help but be piqued at Felix's whole sullen and mysterious thing.[break][break]

"But do you enjoy it? That's what matters most, doesn't it?" Cefin holds Felix's gaze for a moment as his date's eyes briefly flick up. At the next question, though, Cefin's eyes light up entirely.[break][break]

"Ah- I specifically study colour variations in pokémon and their genetic reasons. From things like Vivillon patterns, to shiny pokémon." Always so excited to discuss his life's work, but instead of elaborating further, Cefin tilts his head for a brief moment in thought before speaking up again. "Forgive me if this is too forward... would you like to trade numbers, Felix?"[break][break]

He'd be lying if he said he wasn't interested to learn more about his date, and perhaps in an environment where there were less crowds around.

From the cable-knit sweater to the lazy half-ponytail and the gentle smile spread across his face, soft fit Cefin pretty well. His date, though, seemed a little harder, and it makes sense when he says he's a bodyguard.[break][break]

Cefin refuses the champagne, too, in that case - there's no fun in being the only person drinking, after all, and Cefin isn't a huge drinker in general. He nods politely. "No worries"[break][break]

"I'm a biologist - I study pokémon genetics. What's it like being a bodyguard, if I may ask? It must be quite physically demanding - not sure I'd be cut out for it" He decorates his sentence with a little chuckle.

Cefin wasn't much of a believer in luck or destiny, not to any degree of specificity, at least. His own grief, as deeply buried as it was, made it hard to believe in fate. Who's fate would be to die so young? Nonetheless, he smiles, ignoring the faint, plucking sadness in the back of his mind.[break][break]

"Oh, don't you worry. I wouldn't want to intrude on the little one's walk. And--" He watches as the Sylveon decimates some poor innocent Golbat elsewhere "--I wouldn't want to get on his bad side, either" He chuckles a little. "I once spent some time with a family of Umbreon, you know, who had a single Sylveon in their group. Very sweet pokémon." He offers a smile down at Achelous, even if Mars' pokémon's behaviour didn't seem quite so sweet as of yet.[break][break]

"How is work and life, Mr. del Mar? I hope everything is as well as ever."[break][break]

A puff of SLEEP POWDER from the nearby trees suggests that Gwynedd has encountered something a little less friendly than the Dustox he'd been fluttering with, and the gentle thud of a fast-asleep Heracross landing on the path beside them proves the theory. With a little chuckle, Cefin throws another pokéball it's way.

This has all been quite fun! A little flirting, a little talking about things he and others loved. Perhaps his date partners had all been bored to death, beneath their polite smiles, Cefin didn't know for sure. But if they were, at the very least, nobody made it obvious.[break][break]

His next date greets him a little more gruffly, just offering a hand and his name. Cefin smiles back as sweetly as he did anybody else, never one to worry much about how blunt others might be.[break][break]

"It's lovely to meet you, Felix. I'm Cefin." He gently shakes his hand. "Would you like anything to drink? They've got such lovely champagne set out here"

As the figure steps closer and out of the darker parts of the underbrush, Cefin stands up a little more and a smile stretches across his face.[break][break]

"Ah-! Mr del Mar, this is unexpected indeed. Someone might even say it's fate" He laughs gently, the gentle flapping of his Vivillon heard as it approaches to survey the stranger.[break][break]

"It's good to see you, though, truly. Out for a walk? What an incredibly beautiful partner you have with you"[break][break]

He didn't mention the obvious tension in the aforementioned Sylveon partner, though Cefin was familiar with recognising many forms of potential aggression. It was handy to know them, after all, when you would be spending a lot of time near a wild family that could decide to rip up your tent with you still inside, if they so wanted.[break][break]

Gwynedd, however, forever as calm and unassuming as his trainer, finds another creature of the woods to become interested in. A Dustox, mostly concealed by shadows and leaves, lingers nearby; and the two Lepidoptera dance around one another quizzically for a moment. Cefin offers a pokéball it's way, not wanting to split up the potentially friendship.

"Ah, what a lovely story. I bet you have a lot of good memories with him, then" He smiles, well aware that he's focused far more on the fox pokémon than he is on the young lady he's been matched with to date... but it's hard not to be excited.[break][break]

"Oh! You would? That would be lovely" Cefin smiles, then nearly chokes on the bit of macaron he's nibbling as she... propositions him? "O-oh! I... see!" He squeaks "If you... need... payment? I'm of course happy to reimburse you for your time... though if you need any other kind of, erm, payment... I'm not sure I'd be of much use" He clears his throat and laughs a little.[break][break]

Even excluding the fact that he was gay... some bookworm scientist in his thirties? He's not sure he could keep up with a young lady like Jessie. "...I have a feeling you'd eat me for breakfast" Cefin says with a grin.[break][break]

With that, the bell dings and orders them to separate.[break]
"Ah, I guess it's time to move on" He stands and brushes his sweater off a little, giving a polite nod to Jessie and her pokémon. "If you would like to meet up sometime, though, miss Jessie, I'd love to. It's been lovely to meet you"

Cefin often had no ulterior motive for being in the woods. He didn't garden often, and he certainly had no secret Petalburg bunker for crime (that we know of...). He did, however, enjoy a nice walk, and sometimes it was just nice to exist in Petalburg woods where so many bug types wandered about. It was a calming place, for him, and reminded him of the brief free time he had during his studies that he'd spend amongst trees.[break][break]

Today, though, the crunch of nearby leaves brings him aware that he's not alone. Never one to worry about meeting others out and about, Cefin stands from the frosted stump he'd positioned himself on and looks to where he hears the footsteps, at a figure partially obscured by the darkness of overhanging boughs.[break][break]

"Hello?" He calls over, a faint smile in his words. "It's a beautiful evening, isn't it?"

He wasn't necessarily searching for a spark - the last time Cefin had been in a relationship was nearly a decade ago now, and even then he'd fallen into having a boyfriend almost by accident. But if he could wander haphazardly into romance before, he could probably do it again. So who knew what tonight might hold, for the future![break][break]

"At least all the stores selling chocolates can make quite the profit!" He chuckles, placing the plate back in the centre of the table.[break][break]

"He's really quite a wonderful specimen. Was he gifted as a Fennekin or did you hatch him? It's lovely to have had pokémon from such young ages - I have a Vivillon I raised from a Scatterbug, when I was a child, too" He shifts his gaze to the Delphox, unable to hide the glint in his eyes - shiny pokémon were his life's work, quite literally. He'd written his thesis on this kind of thing.

Cefin wasn't an extrovert, but not quite so much an introvert either - big situations like these were exciting, but he'd always feel more at home tucked away in the mountains surveying Tauros and the like. Everyone had brought a pokémon or two with them tonight, and his match was no different. Jessie's Delphox drew an interested gaze from him.[break][break]

"Ah, it's quite a busy evening indeed. Many more people here than I'd thought! I suppose everyone's looking for love and whatnot" He laughs gently, taking a seat opposite her and helping himself to a macaron that had been lovingly laid out. He offers the plate to Jessie, too.[break][break]

"I'd say mine has been quite enjoyable, as well. I must mention, by the way - your Delphox is quite the beautiful creature. I've seen shiny Fennekin before, though never had the honour to meet one fully evolved."

"Ah!" He leans in as well, always excited to talk about work. "Well, I'm a biologist - I go out and study wild pokémon populations for months at a time, so I'm usually camping or something. I don't know if you've ever seen "PokéPlanet, on tv, but there's this section about the mating habits of Luvdisc, and it's actually me, there - on the television show! It's all very exciting" Cefin beams, the smile taking up his whole face.[break][break]

Memo, however, seemed less comfortable with talking about their shared home region. Cefin didn't want to pry - he was well aware that some people didn't grow up quite as happily as he had. "It is warmer. Even the rain is warmer" His smile softens.[break][break]

He laughs, tipping his glass towards Memo in a mock toast. "Sounds like a plan"[break][break]

His date watches Camellia with interest, and it makes Cefin smile warmly. Anyone who's kind enough to treat a little sea slug with kindness was fine by him. Plenty of trainers could give care to sweet little Poochyena puppies or adorable Eevees, but the less 'cute' pokemon could fall by the wayside.
