So far, his every encounter in this event had been with someone familiar to him. A friend, an acquaintance, always someone he had met before. It had made things interesting and in many of those cases they had discussed business still, even planned a venture or two, but it completely defeated the goal of networking

His next match up, however, happened to be someone Mars did not know, and although hidden behind a perfect and flawless façade, he actually found himself to be surprised.

But, of course, as should have only been expected, it took only a second or two for him to give Cefin Glynn a smile – a charming, confident, and radiant one. He stood as he offered the other a hand to shake, golden cufflink peeking beneath the sleeve of an expertly-tailored suit jacket.

The pink-tailed Meowth by his side sat on her haunches and looked up at the stranger, meowing in greeting.

Ah, how exciting! The room was bustling with people looking for love and people looking for connection. Many people were looking for both, even. It brought a smile to Cefin's face as he waited patiently for his first "match".[break][break]

When the man arrives, he looks wonderful - well put-together, dressed immaculately, golding shining smile. Cefin is more toned down in his formality, just a simple nice cable sweater and some trousers that looked ironed. He stands and takes his hand, shaking it gently.[break][break]

"I'm Cefin Glynn, nice to meet you too" He smiles back, taking a seat once more. "Del Mar as in Piazza Oro Grande bank? That's quite exciting"[break][break]

"Oh, and hello, little one" Cefin gives a finger wave to the sweet Meowth down on the floor, as his own Shellos watches her with intrigue from behind his leg.

I hope I can live up to that.” The joke flows with playful ease, because the fact of the matter is that a man like Mars is ever too self-assured to doubt his own ability to do such a thing. He too takes a seat, eyes of bright amber falling upon the pink pokémon before meeting Cefin’s gaze once more.

He means it, since after all, Mars has a few of those of his own.

”So, tell me, Mr. Glynn, what do you do here in Hoenn?”

The surname is familiar, but given that it sounds like a common one, he doesn’t ask if there’s any relation to the Rocket lab assistant. At least this way he doesn't have to come up with an excuse for knowing her.

Mars was quite obviously joking - Cefin didn't doubt at all that someone like him could live up to any and all expectations. It was part of the job, no? He'd come across various philanthropists in his time, considering how many donated money to endangered relief funds and the like.[break][break]

"Thank you - I have an east sea variant as well, though he's a little bit more... hm... brash. That was certainly one word for it. One wrong move and a potential date would get mud bombed, if Indigo were around. "Your Meowth is gorgeous as well - such a minor difference between shiny and regular form. Equally beautiful, though, of course."[break][break]

He chuckles a little, knitting his fingers together and leaning them on the table. "Ah, just Cefin will do, but thank you. "I'm a geneticist. I'm here to study the wild pokémon and all that, but also my niece is in Hoenn, so I figured it would be nice to spend more time together"

If only for a few seconds, he holds Cefin’s gaze, as if in the entirety of this contest hall, he were the only person who truly matters. A short pause in their conversation made with purpose and intent, a mere look implying things that are left unsaid. It’s the sort of game Mars has always loved to play. ”Thank you, I could say the same about you.”

Cefin doesn't often get looked at as though he's the only person who exists. He's used to being looked at like he's a nerd, which is true; or by wild pokémon like he's a nuisance, which is also true. But important, handsome, all of those things that Mars' gaze spoke? It brings the faintest blush, painfully obvious on his fair cheeks. "Thank you, Mr. del Mar, you're too kind"[break][break]

"Cash Money!" He can't help but laugh. "That's very suiting for your brand, I assume the others are named in kind?" He reaches a hand down below the table like the naughty child feeding the dog during dinner, offering pets for Cash Money if she so desires. [break][break]

"A scientist, indeed. A doctor of ecological genetics, if you want to get technical, but I rarely do. I'm from Circhester originally, yes. She's... hm" He laughs for a moment, tapping his chin as though finding a more polite way of saying it. "She's glad, in a way, I'm sure! I'm also sure I slightly cramp her style"

It’s the sort of thing Mars often does: make people feel important, wanted, as if for however long it is that their encounter lasts, they have his uninterrupted attention. In many ways, it may just be part of what has made him so successful as a businessman.

And, he also notices the way Cefin blushes, of course, but for his sake and given the way their meeting will soon come to an end, he chooses not to say as much.

”Cash Money, Dough, Bread, Coin, Dosh... The list goes on. They’re great for social media engagement, younger generations love them.” Mars winks as if he were revealing some huge secrets, but the fact is that this too is one of the keys to his success: the attention to every detail.

While they talk, Cash Money gladly accepts Cefin’s petting, gleefully purring until the moment the bell rings…

”Well.. I hope that you find what you’re looking for in Hoenn, Cefin, and that you don’t cramp your niece’s style too much.” There’s a short laugh at that, obviously joking. Mars stands then, smoothing down his suit’s jacket. ”Don’t worry, I bet she’s actually happy you’re here. It was great talking to you, may we meet again.”

One last look, a smile, a short handshake, and with that, he moves on to his next date.

The list of monetary nicknames only brings a wider smile to Cefin's face, and a laugh that he covers with a hand over his mouth. "Oh, that is very good. Makes me wish I were a little cleverer with my own nicknames" He scritches Cash Money between the ears as he speaks, smiling at her purrs.[break][break]

"Ah, thank you, Martín, I will try" He beams back, pale blue eyes against Mars' golden amber. "I hope so too - I hope you have a nice rest of the evening, Mr. del Mar" He gives a polite nod, shaking the other's hand once more, and moves on in turn. [break][break]

If the rest of the night turns out to provide him more handsome, polite men like Martín del Mar, well, maybe it wouldn't be such an embarrassing thing that he'd attended.
