though it was understandable to be worried about his reputation, iseult’s lips were sealed about the incident. at least for now, she could see no reason to let it leak to his colleagues or others, not even to ingolf. she had more tact than to gossip purposelessly.

”no, sir. very well. let me know if there is anything, of course.”

with that, she dismissed herself, shutting the door quietly behind her and moving back towards her desk to continue her work.

captain sullivan was amusing, and her smile remained a tickled pinch in her cheeks at his theatrical lament.

it was true about the success of young entrepreneurs and politicians in hoenn, but that was not the reason she was here. she might’ve also pointed out that those who obtained such influential seats in their government did not often last long; but she refrained, respectfully.

”i’m attending the university in ever grande. i do go to classes, but much of it is online and on my own while i’m finishing up the program.” she paused, a touch of weariness in her eye as she summarized, ”lots of writing.”

turning the question on him, then, she asked, ”what about you? where is your school? what’s your major?”

the wind whipped her hair up, pulling several strands from where they were tied back loosely near the nap of her neck. as the boat slowed down, and james offered the wheel over to her, she hesitated. then, a smile crept onto her face, and she decided it sounded fun.

”sure. why not.”

grinning in a carefree manner that was usually unlike her, she stood at the helm, looking towards the distance.

”my father had a sailboat,” she called behind her, ”but i rarely went out with him on it. the ocean used to scare me.” it still did, actually, but it wasn’t enough to keep her off of it nowadays.

after a moment, she remarked, ”this is easy!” at least out there.

JAMES BAKER

though her strides weren’t quite as long as his from her height, she willed herself to keep up. unfortunately, it was a bit too brisk to casually sip her cappuccino without risking spilling it on her blouse.

fernando didn’t stray from work, and that was perfectly predictable, despite her hope for a small break.

speaking of the reyes and morales. what was GABRIEL BLACK up to?

”he’s spent more time at his business lately, as i’m sure you’re aware.” two clicks of her heels on the path filled a brief pause. ”he’s been quite focused on defenses. training duraludon.”

after a little while, the rod dipped towards the water, pulled by whatever was at the end of her line. she jumped up to grab it, reeling back quickly to bring it in. hopefully it was something not average? even exceptionally small would be fine for this last catch. she would gladly take the crown.

well... at least she'd found a pretty pearl earlier. she didn't really need the money, but it was something nice to look at, to remind her of fun times, or whatever this was.

it was almost over. she hung up her hopes that she would find anything interesting down here, but still went to pick the last thing up that she saw before making her way back to the surface.

they went for a wave, iseult clinging to hope that she would be able to perform the trick as good as before.

dahlia goode ’s speech had been the opener she was there to hear, rather than the music that followed—although she’d stayed for that too.

while she didn’t agree with the league’s strategy, she had not let this be known yet. in fact, she had never spoken with the commissioner. it was something she was working up to, although figuring out what she mgiht say was still something she was mulling over. aspirations of becoming part of hoenn’s government came with a desire for change, but the more time went on, the more she realized the complexities of hoenn’s situation.

she was glad that the commissioner supported such an event. the region needed it in times like these. that, at least, she could get behind. for the rest, she didn’t know where she stood, but she imagined as things unfolded, she would find her ground to hold. until then, she would watch and do what was needed of her.

crossing her fingers and taking a deep breath, she urged the mantine forward. "try it again."

they were soon flipping through the air again in another attempt at the primarina twist.

oh, what a surprise. another pokeball. the time was ticking down. she had begun to accept that she may not find anything particularly interesting. still, she kept searching until the end.

further from the shore she went. as she searched the ocean floor, she attempted to also keep an eye on the distant depths, alert for the sharpedo she had run into earlier.

so far, she'd done very mediocre at the splashfest events. she hoped in these last couple of hours that her luck would turn up for the better. after returning the average-looking wishiwashi back to its ocean home (or hopefully somewhere near it), she cast her line out again and crossed her fingers before sitting down to wait.
