[attr="class","text"]He doesn’t really know what he’s doing, standing here discussing hostage negotiation with some sort of feral child. Like, he knows what he’s doing, physically-- standing here talking, the smell of blood in his mouth-- but he doesn’t know how his life has fucking come to this.

But he knows aggression when he meets it-- he’s never more than one degree off of fight or fight-- so he stands his ground and meets her eye. Whether she’s a kid or not, he’s outnumbered, outgunned, and about to go out fighting.

The dark of the early morning seems to undulate as noises burst from all directions. Like he’d walked into the middle of a jungle scene in a movie.

He feels a bit like he’s walking into the mouth of some huge predator, but he can’t just leave a mark alive. As he steps up, someone steps out, and… he recognizes the kid, sort of, from the VCT, some months back.

Onyx wasn’t technologically savvy-- read: smart-- so he didn’t know what he was supposed to be stealing. They’d given him a list of highly industrialized jargon, which read like Megalopolan, for all he knew. He decided to go for the shiniest pieces first.

It’s almost midnight on a pitch black moonless night in the asscrack of a Hoennian summer. Anyone worth their salt would be out getting drunk on a beach somewhere. So when he rounds a corner and almost runs face-first into Noel Parker he pauses with one foot in the air.

When the sand settled and the stupid Sigilyph was still airborne, Onyx clicked his tongue in irritation.

Now he was damp and covered in sand. He was going to chafe in places he couldn’t even imagine.

The girl that looked like Yuina-- insofar as she was slight, fair, and had dark hair (he didn’t care to discern the difference, really)-- sent her… balloon-animal duck thing shooting forward in an aqua jet. Yes-Yuina (as opposed to Not-Yuina) sent Daikenki forward to provide cover.

“Follow her example,” Onyx instructed, and Rano fired off a hydro pump to join the Samurott.

Running footsteps sliding in loose stones and gravel, the sharp slide of steel on steel, and the wet squelch of a sucking chest wound.

Onyx pinches the bridge of his nose as his mark crawls into the dark, gasping for breath. Calpurnia strikes her arm out to the side, scattering blood droplets to the earth as she cleans her arm blades.
